I wouldn't surprise one Charles Jeffrey naming as the creative director of VIVIENNE WESTWOOD.. and hoping if Charles Jeffrey take as the creative director still continuing CJL brand alive.. I would love to someday a CJL piece..
In the spring, summer 23 collection, they had underwear shaped bags, I wanted one so so so so so badly. Maybe one day we’ll both have a piece and hell be over at viv west
As a hobby sewist, your videos inspire me so much to be more creative in my makes. I often sew just for my family to wear, but discovering the process/ history/ creative development of top fashion brands inspires me with the possibilities of garment making as art expression. I keep having a "new favorite" designer every time I watch your videos 😆
@@understitchYT omg!!! Thanks for replying! I love sewing dresses for me and my little girls. I'm really interested in men's wear too. I really hope your channel grows more and more! You deserve it!
I try to reply to everyone I can ^^ I dont get a notification for all comments though (idk why) but I really do try, and Im so glad to hear that you sew for your family too! Thats so touching
ok admittedly i'm not that into fashion but after seeing a few kpop idols in these video thumbnails i think i'm gonna watch some of these now lol (saw skz hyunjin & svt seungkwan in the thumbnail)
one of the fashion brand rises today is DREW HOUSE by Justin Bieber.. I've seen Bieber's fashion brand taking a new level of consumers and awareness of DH more visible in the market.. what do you think @understitch ?..
Also important to note is the reason he's so exciting is his irreverantly british trademarks on a youth culture lens that sort of embraces patriotism, british youth really need a new definition of pride and community, and i like his more "classic" approach in silhouettes and patterns but through a modern perspective rather than completely rejecting the idea of national pride being socially regressive and squashing the taboos of having pride in your flag the commercial digression as of the past year or two has been quite disappointing to me as i feel like he has so much more challenge and innovation left in his tenure, i would suggest having two lines under his name would be a good solution to this but honestly if that's how he's naturally progressed/what is most viable to keep the brand alive it is what it is - im getting my fix from Matty who is doing very exciting less commercial endeavours and doesn't seem to be slowing down on that front
I agree that I don’t think British teens have had a representative in an extremely long time. I feel like not since maybe the 2010s with emo and all of those little sub cultures have we had something that is really specifically for teenagers. Nowadays I feel like anything that is for teenagers. It’s also overrun by people in their 20s or 30s, because everything is online they can. To me, Charles Jeffrey was doing that for the queer side of London, not necessarily teens, but I think there’s definitely a gap in the market for that. In regards to his commercialisation, I don’t necessarily think he has become *more* commercial over time, he has always had a very commercial offering, but styled in a way that made it look artistic. That’s why so many people question his talent. I agree that Matty Boven is doing amazing work Are a lot of designers that continue to really push our idea of fashion, even if they aren’t on the normal fashion week schedule
@@understitchYTI find this perspective so American. Your channel has always made a point about the importance and the dynamics of money in the fashion industry. But the craft, the art, the message, the beauty, the vision and history that make great and important fashion what it is, has always been center stage as it should be. To immerse oneself into CJL and in all honesty not taking anything away from his body of work except «he knows how to make money» is the ultimate proof that your opinion doesn’t matter. Fashion is an art form. Unlike most art, it is extremely expensive to create and it has a tradition of codes and frameworks that are expected to be refreshed and rebelled against, but only to an unspoken acceptable degree, which is always conditionally tied to hard work, skill, talent and vision. It’s brutal and beautiful. And if money was not that big of a part in the equation, we’d see greater work by smaller designers succeed all around. To compliment someone as exceptional as CJ for succeeding at the most smothering and anti-creative aspect of fashion is the most symbolic way to represent what’s wrong with high fashion and everything the industry is tied to, but most of all about the way our consumption of fashion has changed and the change in markets and production numbers through influencer “culture” and the shift it created in our understanding of the once defining pillars of exclusivity, quality and beauty great fashion stood on. The success of Guo Pei was one of the few rays of light in an increasingly dying culture around fashion that focused on the vision and art.
