I ALWAYS force move my colonies my tipping them in to another nest. It has had no negative effects to my colonies.
This guys we're crazy fast buddy, tipping would be hard as they're grip hold is extremely tight as well.
Challange :make a sauce box (you know the small pizza/fast food restaurant ones )ant farm

Hi. Have you ever made a DIY antnest in a way you do (with plaster and sand), but you leave sand in and let ants dig it themselves? It seems that in this way you could be able to make a big nest, let ants in and they should dig only as much of nest as they need. If colony gets bigger, they will dig more and more. And tunnels in the end will be in the way you planned them (near glass). Why im asking, is that I would like to make antworld in glass aquarium seeable all four sides. But if I need to take plaster out to clean the sand, moving plaater will make scratches on glass. Idea is that the bottom 5-7cm would be nest and on top will be outworld.
Yes buddy I've done it a lot on my early days of ant keeping, we have a video here on the channel where I did do it using cement though on this vid.

Just a downside of this is you can't guarantee a clear view, sometimes ants don't clear the sand on the glass that much.
for the new nest, what were the two rectangular containers you used?
Acrylic cake containers buddy. We got a couple of other builds with them recently.

I should have at least 2, 2 years old colony now buddy, but I gifted the camponotus albosparsus I have featured on the channel previously buddy. We'll try our best to get some next month if rain come hopefully.

Yes buddy, they mainly used for feeding.

There should always be a water source available for the colony buddy. And sugar water, honey for carbs source once in a while.

Yes punch some pin holes too for ventilation. Just moist the soil buddy not wet and you'll be good.

But do I add some cotton wool soaked in sugar water for the queen to feed from or do I not add anything else but moist soil in a tub with pinholes in it
If you have a claustral queen no need to feed her buddy until the first batch of workers arrive, if semi claustral feed her every 3 or 4 days.
