Yes, there is no proof that nunchucks were ever used in combat. Historians generally believe that they originated as a form of showpiece of the middle and upper class in 16th century Japan. This makes historical sense because the practicality of nunchucks as a combat weapon was vastly inferior to other actual combat weapons used at the time.

I go for both show and defense though mostly defense. It's fun showing tho, especially getting the technique. Even if theres no records of it used as a weapon, look up nunchuck injuries, these are still dangerous not just to anyone near but yourself

Unfortunately I had to use in a street fight some 25-26 years ago against 3 and believe me the whole fight scene lasted less than a min or two……Nunchuck is good for show off but it’s a lot deadly weapon if used properly for self defense
