The most common attack with a knife is a grab and stab after a charge. So for practial purposes, training exercises that help you strike critically a charging target should be the first to learn. I don't know Kali, Hema, or Budo, but I can tell you how violence normally goes down.
Yes, there are some videos here on TH-cam from ufpro with demos on knife defence. The chance of not getting wounded is practically nonexistent. Even knife to knife or even with a gun at short range, there is no chance. The conclusion is that you have to break the distance, and then you can work or run away.
@vladislavjisa Being unscathed would require parrying the first attack, then striking at the proper target hard enough to incapacitate the attacker. I don't know how plausible that is, but a top tiered athlete with an unnarmed combat background should be able to do this to someone who sits around the house all day playing Madden. Although I know defending against a knife is super difficult, most criminals dont train 1.5 hours a day, 4-6 days a week.
Incorrect the most common knife attack is to repeatedly stab you while you're not looking. Obviously you can't train for this so the point is practically moot, but still. A knife is by far the best cqc weapon for its sheer speed and variability of attacks. When someone is within arm reach you lose to a knife. The rub is u don't usually even know you're in danger until it's far too late. If u want to defend against a random knife attack u need armor, otherwise it's just gonna come down to how lucky u can get before u bleed out.Good luck out there man, please don't think nunchucks will do anything in the real world. You'll just end up dead...
@alzeriel You must think criminal thugs are highly trained killing machines who can move in complete silence and have a poker face. Most violent degenerates just jerk off all day and play Madden or COD. Yes a knife is a big advantage, but if you are training 1.5 hrs a day 4 -6 days a week for 2 years, it comes to who connects first, your calloused hands that, through drills developed shock power, striking on a vital area, or their knife.
Can you imagine the PAIN you'd be in if someone hit your hand with that nunchaku? Possibly break your hand and/or knuckles. Even with adrenaline pumping, the attacker wouldn't be able to have a solid grip on the knife, possibly disarming as a bonus. The thing I like about nunchaku as a self-defense tool is how if you lose it, most opponents wouldn't know how to correctly use it if, for some reason, it ended up in their hands. But a knife? In most cases, the result would be terrible, no matter the skill level.
Metal nunchuk can break bones if you know how to play with them, can be easily lethal too. People don't realize what some people can do with a nunchuck .. it can come pretty fast lol.
I practiced with nunchucks, and from my experience, it does hurt like hell when it bouncing back and hit my hands , arms and elbows after I swing at the dummy. Sometimes, I also got hit on the head with the bounce. And the pain is just the same, like hell, everytime I got hit when the nunchucks bounce. That's not on the full speed, since it's just a bounce back, the momentum got slowed down after it hits the target. I learned there's away to not get the nunchucks bounce back and hit my limbs or my head anymore, which is to strike with full speed, give everything I got in that swing, and don't stop swinging even after the nunchucks hit, keep the swing to the end, and the nunchucks don't bounce back, instead it just go through to the direction of my swing. This method is dangerous since someone could die from getting hit in the head with nunchucks at full speed. I keep it for emergency, I only use it when my life or my loved ones in danger.
Looks fun for sure. Those chucks seem like longer range weapons which is better than nothing but compared to the small knife in close range-might be risky. Can you do a demonstrate against a sword or staff or against a throwing knife or axe?
Awesome video! I use the chucks too. They are a lot more effective if you make your own from hard wood like maple or even solid PVC then they stay hit and no more problems. Thank you.
The major shortcoming of the proposed defense is that the attacker gives you too much space here. You can clearly see that even if he finished his moves, he wouldn't touch you with the blade. In real life, the attacker would be much closer and faster than what you're showing. I wouldn't risk getting stabbed in this situation.
I played with them constantly as a kid and teen. They can be FAR more effective than most people seem to think. Shorter the chain, the faster, but more recoil. Shorten the stick, lengthen the chain and you can (practically!) eliminate recoil all together. I prefer to play with 12” sticks and 6” chain… but if I had to fight I’d go with a 12” chain and 6” sticks. 😅 but it’d never come to that because I can talk my way out of anything.
Great video, man! Are you able to make a video of the nunchaku and kali stick (one hand holds the nunchaku and the other hand holds the kali stick)? Thanks!
Abosolutely! I can see you need some octagons! I'm gonna watch on, to see if you do any snap-thrusting forward strikes, like a spear. Those are pretty damn hard to counter, I'd say. Also, hitting (big) trees with your strikes is a good way to learn to handle the rebound. I'm a big fan of the idea that chuks are a practical weapon. I wouldn't recommend gettting out nunchuks in a real fight, unless someone has practiced real strikes a lot. I can appreciate speedchuk exhibitions, but learning to practically strike with them is essential . . . probably obvious. I guess it's also important to have some real chuks made of hardwood -- speedchuks likely won't get it. If you can get your hands on some octagon chuks with swivel, I think you've found a treasure and should buy them immediately.
Good video. I wished you had put a helmet on him however to show the finishing strikes to the head. Disarm, yes.. but taking out might be necessary too.
Why would you finish to the head? A broken hand is sufficient to end the immediate threat. Once he is incapacitated, immediate threat neutralized; you as an honorable martial artist, would need not resort to such head bashing, I'm sure. If you feel that overwhelming need to bash someones head, hang up your belt, and see yourself out. See, this is why I don't train the 21st century. I wouldn't have any students anyway. Nup, I'd rather teach pigs how to fly, than deal with these animals.

Good job with the nunchaku striking angles, but I don't see this exercise of striking an attacker with a knife as useful, since a knife attacker would never attack from such a long distance. Both of you are within the effective range of the nunchaku. With a knife, you should be at close range, not at medium/long range. Congratulations for your channel, which I constantly follow. Absolutely! I typically show one side for ease in the video as I find most people today (not saying this is you) have an attention span less than a goldfish. 👍🏼
Ive been carrying my foam nunchucks with me everywhere lately, they are like my version of a fidget spinner lol just yesterday on my 20 minute walk to the bus stop and my 20 minute wait for the bus, I was just chucking in the the zone 😂. How much would a woodchuck chuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck chuck's! Lol! I'm totally gonna make a comic book of a ninja Woodchuck who chucks nunchucks, who is also a huge ninja turtles fan, maybe do a spoof of a Michelangelo and Woodchuck doing a competition chuck off! 🤣
Living in a neighborhood where EVERYONE carrys a knife, I like to keep my dad's old chuks in my backpack. I also carry a long ass sheath knife but not cus it's big, but cus I can use the longer blade as a parrying dagger in case someone pulls a blade on me. That and pepperspray, never underestimate that shit.
Here in Florida i just mail ordered 2 of the exact real ones he has, for training. But if i got caught carrying them the most i might get is a sideways look from the police for being unconventional.
Its illegal to carry nunchucks in public in my state because they are seen as being soley for harm and not self defense. But the guns being used to kill kids in school are legal to carry in public because they are seen as mainly for self defense. People usually learn nunchucks for fun to look cool. Every weapon can be used to harm for self defense, it makes no sense. If I really wanted to protect myself practically in public, I just have to also own a gun. Its the only way. You're helpless if the other person has a gun and isn't close enough to disarm and its really dangerous to try to disarm. Guns just beat everything and are legal when obtained legally obviously.
I know it's training, but he was instructed to stay back, a true person with a knife would come in charging not swing the knife 3 feet away from the person.. he wasn't close enough to cut .
nice work with the nunchacks, but i see the problem in your demonstration that your partner used a short knife and was WAY too far away to use it.... none of his attacks came even close to you AND you also took a step back to keep the distance to him so that you can use the nunchacks.... So either you should have shown the defense against other, longer weapons like sticks or polearms, of IF you use the knife then you should be really up close, and thats no good distance to use nunchacks. Just a thought for how you could make even better videos
Thanks. Yes, openness gives more camera clarity. The inspiration is for viewers to go train and practice the material as they see as it should be done. 👍🏼
How to really fish with nunchaku: 1. Bring nunchaku to street fight. 2. Beat somebody with it. 3. Leave immediately and hope you can’t be identified. 4. Call a lawyer, start preparing your defense. 5. Hope no one has video of you committing felony battery with nunchucks. 6. If the answer to #3 or #5 is yes, spend all your $$ trying to avoid prison. Fail anyway. 7. Become a felon, go to prison for at least a year of your life, make some new “friends” and do things you once swore you’d never do. Lose your rights. 8. Lie to your friends and family and say it was all worth it.
Never in all the videos I've seen of a street attacker with a knife, have I seen them do such slow long sweeping attacks, how about you try this with him rushing in and trying to just stab the crap out of you. like a real street fight would be. because someone on the street trying to knife you 100% isn't trying to just cut you a little and going to walk away.

I love this. Man needs to do a response to shadiversitys negative replies to nunchucks
fighting always works best when you have a friend available to move slow and do what you want, so you can counter all the pre rehearsed moves instead of the unpredictable sh*t ppl will do
Obviously this isn’t a fight. It’s a TH-cam video. You must not have noticed 😂
"Ah a fellow chucker eh"
🐢
Those heavy wood with the steel swivels will f### you up. Chuk rock! Tri-bar next!
That's very excellent technique
I never leave home without them 4:05
Good job with the nunchaku striking angles, but I don't see this exercise of striking an attacker with a knife as useful, since a knife attacker would never attack from such a long distance. Both of you are within the effective range of the nunchaku. With a knife, you should be at close range, not at medium/long range. Congratulations for your channel, which I constantly follow. Greetings."
You have some nice skills rock on 🤘
Good to see someone fighting with Chucks not twirling them like a Baton.
the only negative i found to this was a seperation of left and right hand as a nunchuck should be practiced with both hands for better flow
Absolutely! I typically show one side for ease in the video as I find most people today (not saying this is you) have an attention span less than a goldfish. 👍🏼
I bought nunchucks mikey officially my fav turtle now
Amazing
Try useing 8 in chucks ones master that all other chuck is easy
us Filipino kids called them Chakoo Sticks in the 80's. My older cousins were good with these things. I learned Chakoo before I learned Arnis sticks
Good solid video.
Wow, that was real knife attack...
Awesome
How much your nunchuko?
Cat: this looks kinda interesting watching 😁🐈
Here in ma. Chucks illegal to carry, even illegal to make.and yet taught inmost martial schools.
Here in Florida i just mail ordered 2 of the exact real ones he has, for training. But if i got caught carrying them the most i might get is a sideways look from the police for being unconventional.
Yet....one of the least documented martial arts weapon. Very interesting turn of events. I agree.
The referee is great!
With a nunchaku what I find most effective is constantly moving in a circular motion no matter the distance from my opponent
Where do you get your chuks from?
Link in the description box
I focus on power and strikes, not how fancy I can be.
I always carry one in my bag
Evade and slap love it better then using your hands
Bruce lee was awesome in nunchucks you are good to.
Milk74 is a Sav O with the nunchuku!
Im walking around with nunchucks rn..
HAY QUE ESTAR BIEN LOCO PARA SACAR UN CUCHILLO CANTRA UN NUNCHAKU-
So nunchuks is just a weapon that gives u 99+ stats on parry?
Least this wasn't stupid juggling ty
1:00 is the best
It wont stop a bullet - dale gribble
Wow! Such a genius! Congratulations on that high IQ you must have! 🎊🎉
@@kalicenter it's from a king of the hill episode, was a joke. Nice sense of humor 👏
That damn cat!
cat is watching hahahaha :D
If you want to learn how to use nunchaku for self defense, watch Okinawan kobudo katas. Simplicity is the key
Ok, but what if he's really trying to stick you?
there's a cat watching them making of this video
There is a good cat!
I know it's training, but he was instructed to stay back, a true person with a knife would come in charging not swing the knife 3 feet away from the person.. he wasn't close enough to cut .
Cat: can’t you guys find better things to do??!😸😹
Need a balisong video 👍👍👍
There are a few up from over the years. Just gotta search the channel. 👍🏼
Estou aqui pelo canal núcleo Dharma
just use iron nunchuck 1 hit with speed, the arm + the weapon will be done
Mantab Guru
nice work with the nunchacks, but i see the problem in your demonstration that your partner used a short knife and was WAY too far away to use it.... none of his attacks came even close to you AND you also took a step back to keep the distance to him so that you can use the nunchacks....
Why would he have a knife fight at that distance? A knife is a close combat weapon, not a distance weapon
Try to hit finger holding 🔪, attackers drop the 🔪 right away
People still can hide the nunchuks between the ankle and the knee
❤❤❤
