Could NATO enter into a direct confrontation with Russia? | DW News

  • Ukraine has called on NATO allies for more help in protecting its skies, warning that it does not have the means to defend itself from Russian air attacks. Kyiv is running low on air defenses across the country, leaving its forces and cities vulnerable to Russian drone and missile strikes. NATO's consistent argument has been that direct confrontation between NATO and Russian forces would consitute an escalation that NATO does not want. Could it be argued that President Zelenski is actually trying to edge NATO into a confrontation with Russia?

Flashback to WW2."Give us the tools and we will do the job". The USA held back then and it was nearly disastrous. If the Japanese had not attacked pearl Harbour and forced the issue, we would probably have had a much different result. Is that what it is going to take this time as well?

Russia would have still won ww2 without the yanks.
Remember the yanks held back and were happy supplying war materials to both sides until 1941.
The yanks are doing the same here making money from death.

Those countries such as Poland, Czechia, Estonia etc. that agreed to use their weapons inside Russia's territory don't have weapons capable of performing this task.
Those countries that have weapons capable of destroying targets inside Russia don't want to agree.
The problem is that all these modern weapons of long range are not operable by Ukrainians. They need to be operated by the Western professionals. Not only because Ukrainians don't know how to operate them but also because those sophisticated weapons are full of classified parts. Moreover, they need to have satellite data to perform their tasks well.
Shortly, these weapons are the Western weapons operated by Western military professionals. This means that any attack on Russian territory is tantamount to a direct attack on Russia by a NATO country.
Is this so hard to comprehend?
It is a pity that the same people who miscalculated the outcome of the Ukrainian war are still in power leading to another miscalculated disaster.

    1) Why is there a difference between Russia striking Ukrainian civilians (even quite deliberate) and Ukraine striking Russian civilians ("less" deliberate at best) with material that has been offered / sold to Ukraine? I mean why are the rules or consequences different for 2 countries at war with one another while it's them pulling the trigger.
    2) Why make the difference between material given or sold recently and material given / sold before this war? Oddly enough, that same material would suddenly (not) drag the country of origin into a war.
    3) Given my previous question, how does this not drag Iran for example into the war for giving / selling drones to Russia while the exact opposite would suddenly drag France into a war?

Ukraine has a lot to overcome in their war to "defend Western hegemony." They have a 4-1 manpower mismatch, a 7-1 drone mismatch and a 4-1 ammunition mismatch. In 2019, when the US was planning on drawing in Russia to fight Ukraine in the current proxy war, the "great game," to "increase the costs to Russia, in both blood and treasure," they never envisioned this. Thus they face what they feared that "calibrating the level of assistance to produce the desired effect while avoiding a damaging counter-escalation would be challenging." Now they risk starting WWIII. Not the challenge they were after.
