While these colors can be classic and timeless, I think we could explore some more vibrant options to add a bit of excitement and personality to our shots. What do you think?
That was a really great introduction to the beauty dish. Thank you for showing the same shot with a comparison with the different attachments on. I look forward to seeing other videos using this product. And hopefully an outdoor video with it too.
@@djtoman6875 Thanks for the feedback! A lot of people don't want a case and a lot of people do want one. We strive to give everyone an option and allow them to find what works best for them. But the Pro Kit includes the Case and Grid for pretty much the price of the Grid alone!
I love MagMod's designs and quality and own a bunch of their stuff, including the 24-inch soft box and all the small flash modifiers and gels. I also really get a lot out of beauty dishes, so that this draws more interest in them is great. However, that they're selling this for 220 bucks without including the zip-up case, which is sold separately for 100 dollars, is ridiculous. Maybe they can offer the package at next year's "Black Friday Month". Not to be all negative about this video, though. The lighting tips with the high fill and later adding the V-flat are golden.

You can! Ideally you will still want to keep a beauty dish in closer - they are typically use in that way because of the light and how it disperses from the beauty dish. Fortunately we have awesome tools like Generative Fill in PS and LR to get rid of any stands etc. Or just shoot a tighter frame on your couple. Both Trevor Dayley and Neil Redfern are two photographers we know of that have used the Beauty Dish already while photographing couples!
I see on the Magmod website that this can be used with video lights as well. Is there any guide on the maximum wattage LED that would be ok with this beauty dish ? I already know that the gels for this can not be used with LED lights because they could not stand up to the temperatures.
Wait what. I never thought about going Grid and Diffusion on a Beauty Dish. Which is stupid, because I do on regular Softboxes. This just blew my mind. Also. The MagMod Beauty Dish is nice.
Now can we see a comparison with a regular beauty dish? Of course it's never gonna happen. Magmod never runs comparisons against equivalent modifiers. Apple fans boys are to iPhones what Magmod fanboys are to Magmod modifiers. They will buy the product even if the same output can be achieved with cheaper or better modifiers. Disappointing that after all these years, that's what Magmod can come up with?!? Other companies like SMDV/Angler have more innovative modifiers.
Appreciate the comment! Comparing the MagMod Beauty Dish XL to a traditional beauty dish would probably show results that are, well, pretty similar. At the end of the day, light is light-if you’re working with two similarly sized and shaped dishes, you’re going to get light that’s in the same ballpark. We don't claim our Beauty Dish XL will magically transform light into something mythical...though wouldn’t that be cool? ;) What we do love is how ridiculously easy it is to set up, how compact it collapses, and how quickly you can pop in gels to get creative. Oh and how with a simple swap of the mount you can use the beauty dish on different brands of strobes rather than being fixed to a specific mount or brand. These are the features we obsess over because they’re the things photographers appreciate most when they’re hustling on shoots. If we were to run comparisons ourselves, some might call it biased. Instead, we encourage our fans to take it into the wild, put it to the test, and let their work and experience using it do the talking. We think that’s where the real magic happens anyways!
Never see lighting tips for real people. Like corporate headshots with old wrinkled execs. both men and women. not everyone can work with 20something perfect skin models.
