Osttruppen, like British riflemen, get a bonus to their combat abilities in cover. Edit: and I watch for a few more minutes and they literally explain it just how I said it in the video.

I'm only halfway through this battle and I'm exhausted by just watching it. I can't imagine what it's like to actually try to play this.

cover works directional. It won't protect you if you are in front of it (in fact you are likely to suffer more damage from aoe.)
