When the lakes freeze over... I was thinking how about we could cut A small circle on the lake so we could fish, and also use it to collect water. I thought that would be pretty cool!
@Mausplunder I like this idea! You could use an Axe to make a specific hole, or use A Grenade to clear out a huge chunk to fish in! That would be awesome!
Am I literally the only one who's worked out that building a base at the very top of the moutains is litereally the best place to build as you never get attacked by mutants or cannibals as they don't go that hight up. Plus there is a river very close by for your water and fish (food) source. Loads and loads of trees for building, plus two ice caves and a camp site for all your cloth, rope and so on. there's also plenty of rabbits by a frozen lake so plenty to feast on. Take a while to get the zip lines set up so you can send the logs up the mountain, but really worth it when you get it done!! I just find it really hard to believe that I'm the only one that has found this spot as it's super OP and the views are the best on the map!!
If you're building on the small lake island and don't have a zipline or rope bridge yet, simply toss your logs across the water. They will bounce in the water and pile up at the shore. Pretty quick way to transport logs in water.
It doesn't seem to matter where you build in regards to defending... I started building on that small island and when I came back after I was captured, a whole group of cannibals had spawned right on that island... Was quite dissapointing to be honest
@@Krypto_TN I had a big red guy spawn inside my house on the island but that's the only time it happened when I placed down a skull lantern and I've figured whereever I place some kind of skeleton light source enemies spawn on them so idk if that's a thing or a bug
The island bases are generally useless for a couple of reasons. 1) Cannibals and mutants will spawn at your base regardless of how remote it is. 2) It's in an area of the map that is far away from any supply or quest /dungeon locations. This has an even bigger impact because of point 1.
True, they don’t have patrol routes like the first game, they can literally spawn in your base in this one if the walls cover too much area. And yeah, building on the east half of the map in general is inferior to the west, because there just aren’t enough points of interest or non-craftable loot there, it’s mostly just natural terrain compared to the west.
Helicopter pad on the east coast that goes into the ocean is nice. Very easy to defend, 3 foundations wide surrounded by deep ocean water, then you have a 3x5 and a 5x3 area.
When I played this game, and I built my base I felt so proud of myself for how long it took and then I opened up this video and I just sat there in awe..
Cannibals spawn within a set range of the player. I've seen war parties appear on a beach ahead of me and in the middle of open fields as I arrived from the treeline. Cannibal camps and wandering patrols have their own rules, but basically your base location means nothing. You can be attacked anywhere at any time
unless of course, you build your base in a lake :P i actually hope they add like, cannibals that can swim, like maybe shark mutants or something, so that lake bases dont feel as safe as they currently do
There is actually 4 ammo crates close to the waterfall basin. If you head towards those red tents and follow the trail, there is another campsite with 2 black tents by the next lake/river. If you keep following the trail there is a cannibal camp, each of them have 2 ammo boxes. I know this because I built a house just behind those two red tents and go to them each time I load in. 😅👌
I live on the Location 4 (we're 2 on Normal, almost on Day 60) But instead of on the Beach, I live over the hill (where he is standing at 8:55), we only defend the corner of it. With multiple traps around the base, the monster rarely even touch our walls. We then built a secondary base on the opposite side of the Beach, on the hill where a Dig Site is. And we connected both bases with 5 Ziplines going from one Tree Platform to another. We're even expanding it, to the tall hill after the Dig Site, we're building a ramp to use the Glider from there. I really like the location, it's not hard to defend it, and it's close to all the main Bunkers. With Knight Vs, it's perfect.
The most underrated item in the game imo is the rope gun, you can bring back logs to your base from half way across the map without even touching the ground if you build either treehouses or platforms for you and your logs to cross and switch from zipline to zipline.
@@mixvids321 haha yeah I feel you, I managed to do it but you gotta take it slow, and bring meds, if you get Aloe and yarrow you can make a health mix, I can't remember what plants make the health mix +, however I managed to do it by using the spear to keep them at distance and trying to lure them one by one so I dont get swarmed, if you do get overwhelmed by them usually you can run back to the point where you entered that specific point of the cavern and they'll stop chasing you.
For the 5th base, the north beach crash site, it isn't that great actually. Enemies do spawn behind on the edge by the rope spawn, typically it is mutants (lots of the finger dudes) and you definitely need the zipline for gathering wood so it isn't beyond annoying to build
I built on the top of that waterfall that you advised to build at the bottom of instead. That’s great advice mostly because it doesn’t freeze over at the bottom but also, it was a complete nightmare for me trying to base at the top with the compassion AI. They both get stuck super easily up there. I had to build an elaborate bridge for Kelvin to get out of ankle deep water, it was a multi-hour nightmare to figure out. Virginia wouldn’t leave the spot when I moved bases which was a whole other story.
Give her a pistol/shotgun (any one of them) and she will automaticly follow you. But she is not like kelvin who can just teleport to you at anypoint of the surface, so better slow down in running and let her catchup to you
Do you have link to video of bridge for kelvin, I’m on an island that doesn’t freeze , mini waterfall mainly reason why I built there but whatever I create, kelvin won’t cross over.
@@hypnero7664 after patch 2 the companion AI will still not cross bridges over water. They will cross it only if you built over water that will freeze, and it’s the winter season. I hope this is priority for them in the next patch because I really want to live in a water base, but it breaks the immersion for me that my companions won’t cross a safe bridge that even the enemy AI will cross
@@Thevideofish85 smh still?! Thanks for info. Fr I agree plus kelvin is such a wuss, also makes no sense since he was on copter with them swat looking gear so yeah companions should be able to be at any base you are at.
Spawning works like this. Enemies will spawn near your location regardless of where you are. I have literally seen cannibals spawn into the game near where I was at the time.
@@TotalXclipse Yes even within your constructions. Walls are useless if you make them too big, exactly like in the first game sadly. I hope they fix this, put an emphasis on routes, and only make them spawn in their camps and near caves. I hate when they spawn around you no matter what you do. Feels immersion breaking af.
I think they should fix the spawning. It forces me to play with destruction off. I built this nice mansion on the first lake you showed, walled it all off, put up spiked defences, it took me hours to finish, then i was working on some traps, game spawned a caterpillar and few finger dudes inside of the house, not the compound but the actual house, needless to say house was badly damaged when I came to the rescue and a ruin when i was done with them. This happened multiple times and had I not been playing with damage off, results would be the same.
I actually like making my base above the cave entrance where you get the wetsuit and pistol flashlight. The Ai can't seem to figure out that they can get up there, so I only need to wall off one section of the area and a small section at the back. They will only attack from one side, or stare at you from the bottom by the cave entrance like fish in a barrel, if you get what I mean.
6:48 You say that like this is a horde shooter game with heavy raids. I don't know if I've just been lucky or something but the very most I've had is like 6 guys show up at my house (at worst three red fat dudes) and maybe like the caterpillar guy shows up every now and again. I'm finding more slugs for my shotty then I'm shooting because traps just turn the couple of guys that show up into pulp.
That base is pretty good for a brit. My base consists of a series of defensive logs staggered in an open field. The cannibals are attracted to attacking them so theres no need to hide
there is a spot at the beach where the boats are at the river delta (not the kayak) there is a huge space between the boats and the coast where you can build right in the "river" and all enemies will not atack you but come right on your doorstep this part of the river realy screws thier pathing and agro the only thing happening is that a baby might accidantly launch at you oh and i found a way to lock your door : if you build a door in your defensive wall ,put 2 diagonal beams behind it and put a plank over them =doorlock
My first base in the game was actually at fang lake. One spot the cannibals can still get down which you wouldn't notice is actually against the cliff behind you. There is a small way down in the middle that they will use if you wall the other 2 sides.
just above the island lake there is another better spot. it looks like a little lake but its part of the river so it doesnt freeze in winter. u can build in the water when u start to row up logs from the shore, its a bit tiring but once u got the basement its actually easy to build the base on it and in the near u also have the modern axe spot where u can also get explosives, medicines and other stuffs...
@@TotalXclipse I will probably build at the bigger waterfall when the extreme volume of water like it is fixed. Until then it's just so damn loud. Until then the smaller waterfall location is really great because of the relative distance and thus the reduction in noise.
Agreed, that lake is the best in the game - better than the spots shown in the video. Doesnt freeze, lots of food/animals, modern axe camp nearby, can build in water if you want, and just absolutely stunning view/area without the extreme loudness of waterfall.
I usually build several camps throughout the map, but have my main base at the two helicopter pads on the east side of the island (on the beach). I haven't seen anyone bring up that location, and I'm not sure why. Once you block the ten foot entrance path... your base is essentially impenetrable. You're surrounded on 3 sides by ocean, and one side has a narrow concrete entrance path that can easily be filled with traps/walls etc. Plus there are buku seagulls, turtles, loot crates, rope, circuit boards and food that just spawns on your doorstep (there are several golf carts in front of the location, all have loot crates in them plus at least 4 more crates on landing pads). It's right next to a river, so you can get water year round, the edge is filled with trees to use for building (logs and sticks) and rocks are everywhere. The only downside to that location is like a 5 minute run from any of the marked locations or caves. However, it's like a 30 second walk to the end-game bunker... so people might see this as more of a "late-game base"... but I start using it as soon as I recruit Virginia.
In regards to spawning, I've noticed while building a Zipline across the center snow mountain peaks, enemies spawning from a few feet above ground before landing ahead of me to attack. I'm not sure the proximity but it was definitely shorter than the large space around the island you're on in this video.
This litle Island you recommend as first - This is probably exactly the most empty spot of the whole Land. Far is nothing around it and you will walk for ever to all other sides of the map to get stuff. - So it is maybe good to not waste to much time to build a perfect protected base, but the most wasted time to get somewhere and get all the way back. - But thanks for all our work in your good videos.
Certainly the case for now I expect it to be teaming with life in later updates, but also it doesn't take too long to get any where if you have a glider there 🙂
I miss the airstrip, it has lots of suplies, a camp nearby you can scavenge and a bunker to print your stuff like arrows and ziplines. Build around the airplane and you can zip up logs or roll down logs from the hills on each side. Only downside is the kanibal camp nearby, but stakes will help with that easy.
Yup love the airstrip. I believe the compound bow is buried inside that cannibal camp too? Went there after I got the shovel now it’s infested with mutants so I can’t dig it up yet lol
In the early game it's annoying to constantly be attacked. So +1 to a safe location to build. In the late game, after you've completed everything, it's nice to be in a location where you are attacked constantly. Otherwise there isn't much to do.
Right next to his floating house (last location of the video) is an pensinsula that is very easy to defend and my personnal base building recommendation... just look from the middle of the mentioned lake (direction: towards the compound bow location) for the little tounge of land that is between 2 rivers and got high ground towards the lake (so it's easy to defend during winter)
That waterfall spot is definitely best, there are 4 ammo cases and tons of supply cases super close, also the runway isn't far for tons of suitcases, also quick hangglide ride to the gym/lounge bunker for arrows and tech armor and some explosive cases around there.
you keep saying about the lakes freezing but hopefully we get water collectors in the future updates, well for logic sake i hope that if the lakes would freeze so would water in the collectors!
The only problem I have with the remote bases, or any base without water to defend it, is enemies can just spawn on or in your base. Ive even had a mutant spawn on my little port in the middle of a lake
The "West Beach" you got all wrong. Don't build on the beach. Where you build is in the shallow seawater. Cannibals and mutants (even the slinkies) WILL NOT enter the seawater. It's a natural barrier and the only truly safe place for a base. No defensive fence needed either. As long as your base doesn't cross over into the fresh water territory, or land.
Only one disadvantage: Kelvin and Virginia won't visit you in your base too. But I like it, to watch Kelvin at the beach dealing with some mutants... ;-)
@@_b0h4z4rd7 I store all my loot over the seawater, and that's where my bed is. I have a small encampment on the beach for the NPC's, now that we have locking gates. If it gets raided... all my loot is safe.
I’ve been calling that lake the hand cause… well the rivers running into it make it look like a hand and fingers :) my friend and I built bases on the plateaus around one of those fingers and connected them with rope bridges. Pretty good location, since the plateaus usually only have one direction they can be attacked from each, and there are some that don’t have any footpaths nearby. My only caution with building on or too close to the hand lake is that there’s also a cannibal settlement right there that might have been added in the last update
There's a round lake with 4 or 5 streams running downhill into it. One of these streams joins with another before it reaches the lake. If you follow the smaller stream uphill from the point where it joins the other, you'll run into a section of water with dozens of fish. You can catch 5+ with one spear poke. If this spawning bug doesn't get fixed it will be a good location for a base or hunting post, the sound of the water is also quiet there.
I found an area at the top of a cliff that was totally flat, backed by another cliff, and had a small pond in the middle. It was a very large area with lots of trees, and best of all, lots of Yarrow which can be eaten for both food and water. I built a nice house, then got lost and had no marker. I ended up beating the game without ever finding it again. I intend to find this sweet spot again and see if I can last out to the next 8 moon cycles. Not sure anything will happen at the next "firing" of the cube, but I'm curious and it will take many days to get there so I need a good base location.
The waterfall location is underrated, resources that respawn. 1)waterfall: Rope 2)tents under water fall food/meds 3) two cannibal camps near by including the modern bow bunker mutant armor/ etc 4) plane runway food/etc
I thought I was so smart to build on that small island when I first started playing this game.. little did I know, when all the water around it froze, every mutant was after my ass lmao
We found another great location all the way in the middle of the frozen mountains. It has a little lake that is frozen over and a wild broad river flowing out of it. Along the river is another ice cave which is nice to use as a home. We decided to zipline in and out of the cave as heigh as possible (kept 1 tree standing across from the cave and build a platform on it to connect the ziplineto). Did this so we could barrage the entrance to the cave and 1/4 lvl above it with pallisade spikes as a defence against well pretty much anything. Kelvin and Virginia simply walk over them like they don't exist (which is a good thing). There is also a glider spawn directly across from the cave, some boxes and a couple o tents that got meds/food and drink in them. Our next project appears te be creating a V shaped dam slightly down river. Think we are all familiar how the NPC can drown itself. On that particular river its insane. Like 5 or 6 just jumped towards their death and drowned within 5 seconds of each other. Not 1 hesitated to cross like they often do. The V shape is gonna function as a net to catch those drowned mutants --> fill some shelves with creep armor ^^
First time I played I settled in location 6. Glad you showed it because it's insane. By the way cannibal AI doesn't really even go around the back, their pathfinding is messed up. And so is Kevin's...
I found a nice plateau, (edit for better location info), with the lake below the jungle crash site and the four rivers pointing to 12:00, the zipline cave at 3:00 go to the lake at 4:30, near the red tents and follow that creek down and there is a nice large elevated (would be on the right side of the small stream) area that has mostly one pathing in for the enemies. When on the plateau, they enter from straight along the left side passed the edge of the left cliff, but a couple of stick walls and some traps control everything exc the worms. It still needs a long blockade on the right side, depending on how much area you want. The area has tons of rocks and sticks that spawn, and water in the creek and fish for Kelvin to collect. There isnt ammo at the tents, but food and rope, and only two zips from spot.
if you build on the small rock at one of the waterfalls they can't enter your base. That's where I built mine. No issues day 11 so far. Also used grenades to level like 5 trees at once. Lol. Fun stuff.
I have a spot that I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere yet. At the south beach of the map there’s a mid sized river with no camps or anything nearby. If you follow that river north, you’ll pass an empty cave and finally find a slightly under-developed waterfall with two cliffs on either side and a lake at the top. You’ll know it by the big ugly chunk of dirt with its texture stretched out at the bottom of it. I suggest putting your base somewhere along the river at the bottom there using the cliffs as defensive walls.
im a builder and i havent explored much or played the game much but i found the snow area where u start to be my favourite because from where the crashed helicopter is u cross the river stream where u can get fish and drink all the time and to the left u can go down a slope and what i did was put a defensive wall there looking nicely and to the rocks and that way u dont get any enemy getting up there i found for quite a few days so far and if u make it to the right across the stream u come to that frozen lake and cave and tents.
I built a house on the central lake and may have found a bug with my base defense. I built an elevated patio that surrounds my house and made a log fence that's half a log high on the patio. I then put spikes on the patio facing out around the whole thing. So far I haven't seen any cannibal successfully attack or climb the fence. Their AI seems to tell them to attack wood walls and to jump over fences. However since there are spikes they just keep trying to climb the fence from the lake until they die.
First base I made was in the first location here, I recognized the land bridge as I like to scout the map and find one place to devote all my building to permanently. I can confirm enemies will spawn behind the land bridge. There's no camp or anything, and I have walled off the bridge, but they still end up there (including mutants randomly). It's far less than other locations but it still occurs and is frustrating. I have the land bridge walled off (which also takes forever because getting logs there is a pita and there are way too many shallows). I'm in the process of surrounding the mini lake with towers and walls as I've spent too much time there and I built zip lines connecting it completely from the 3 printer/rope caves on the east side to it.
4:47 - so many fish because it's one of the crash locations/starting points to the game, so they're giving the player an easy food and water source to get started.
On the topic of base locations could you try building a base on the helipad dock its on the beach, to find follow the river that comes from the lake on the mountain and when it connects to the ocean head left while looking out to see and you should discover it pretty quickly. If not there just explorer the island cost you should find it pretty easily. Sorry for the bad directions I found it exploring and saw it in a few videos but not sure where it truly is.
My secret location is inside the dead end frozen cave with the dead hiker. I built a little cabin inside. It's really remote being up and in the mountain but, I get some really good sunsets and it's always snow. Virgina never comes in so I'm building a house for her. The winters up there are cold.
Like I mention in the video, thats not a great spot necessarily as if you get attacked by a swarm of mutants and you're out of ammunition you have to run through them to get out and retreat. Also they may extend those caves like they did with the one in the last update 😅
Best place is the very North tip of the map where that little patch of sand is within the trees. There’s a water source there too. With fish. It’s a perfect circle big enough to build a fence around and have a fort.
Since the enemies don't go into the water. The safest place is actually in the water near the beach (not too deep, so you can still walk and place logs). If enemies appear just wait until they go away, no need to fight.
It doesn't seem to matter where you build in regards to defending... I started building on that small island and when I came back after I was captured, a whole group of cannibals had spawned right on that island... Was quite dissapointing to be honest
Great video as always Total. I considered having a base in the first location. It is a very good place, but I find it to be a bit far from everything. I normally prefer to have a base more centered in the map.
i hope all the empty (frozen and water) caves wil lget some propper rework and wil become deep horror caves at some point, they feel quite placeholder-ish rn
the most important thing about base building in this game is to have one side of your base safe building by any rivver as your back yard and than only have to worry about front and sides mine is up closer to the mountain. But you must have ZIPLINES going to camps near you to get the supplies and stock up once youve done thaqt you really are costing especially if you have all the good wepons or just the crossbow
To me the best base location would be the "squirell waterfall / duck falls" (reason because there is a certain spot of the rocks below of the wayerfall where squirell are gather and you can easisly farm feathers and meat there and they cant get spooked even you get near them) On the said waterfall you can build a platform just below the waterfall and mobs cant even get to you even in shallow waters, plus water doesnt freeze there
Location is just upstream to the left part of the beach crash site, near the modern axe and flashlight drops location.....only disadvantage is that it really far from all reguired endgame caves and you have to deal with the waterfall's constant sound effects
@TotalXclipse unfortunately yes! They spawn on the island itself. If you stand on the bridge or swim in the water near it, you can see the armored muddies on one side and regular muddies on the other!
I built on the lake island as well. Had something strange happen though. The lake stopped freezing during winter. I built a 9x7 sq fortress there during the 1st winter. hasnt freezed since.
8:00 there's another little camp site just down the river with a bit of loot, real close. Anyway, how do you handle the constant loud sound of the waterfall? I'd go nuts
12:14 Anyone watching ignore this part entirely, all you have to do in the other seasons when the lake isn't frozen over is toss your logs at the island they they'll literally bounce over to it. You do not at all need to build a bridge first.
It's actually not so bad, my current base is there and I only really notice it when I go to my house that's directly up against the waterfall on the shore.
@TotalXclipse. There are actual islands near the first location that you have to swim to. You can use zip lines to deliver materials to it. It's worst feature is that the land is severely uneven, but just build a foundation for your base.
I built a floating house on that central lake - even with playing on custom and all enemy settings on low, there is pretty much always at least 3 cannibals on land watching me. Not sure how I'll make it through winter.
I built on the small cliff above the machete as I only had to build a wall on one side and can zipping up to the small pond or lake for water and down to the machete for can food and crunchy wunchies the only problem is the amount of work to clear all the trees and bushes so I can see
I live in the side of the cliff just south of the machete. I pain to build like the lake's so zip line helps. No NPCs can get to you even if one side of the cliff you can jump up. There are 2 enemy camps close by so if you like raiding them then that's just a jog away. one's south the other directly east at the top of the cliff again just a short jog.
imma hit ya with the hottest location i have found in the whole game IMO, its at the shovel cave, and if you are looking at the entrance to the shovel cave, turn left and take your immediate first right up the hill and to your left is a huge plateau covered in trees, if you are walking up the hill to get there you can wall off that entire line across the plateau from the ledge rock on the hill all the way across to the other ledge at the other end of the plateau and the only thing left is a small entrance in the back that is a zig zag unmakred trail to get there that i see no traffic ever go through, but is a small wall to block off. the place is covered in tree tribe dudes, but once you clear all the trees in the plateau and clear the trees next to your wall on the other side you never see them again. its right next to a stream, deer spawn on the plateau all season, endless wood for projects, you are next to a cave for creepy armor farming, and you are pretty central to things with a medium walk to the closest 3D printer. you should check it out, the place is amazing
There is a plane crash site on the other side of the mountain that has a lot of loot but you will have to fight for it and the Golf course is nice there to
Winter freezing makes no difference, it is just a few days and you will have walls. The real problem with water bases is that your companions are not going there, so you have to watch out too much for them. I am moving in land, making a good defense around. Then your companions will stay safe.
I think you could still defend your base on location 8 by not using spiked walls and normal walls instead then you could be a lip 1 foundation say around your base to place traps on and spiked sticks through the normal wall, then the only concern is making a route for the NPC's to get in and out so Kelvin isn't getting stuck at the bottom of the lake outside of winter so could do a rope bridge with a maze of spiked sticks and traps so cannibals don't just walk over it, some food for thought.
When I eventuallly get a better PC and also buy this game, I will definetly build below the giant waterfall on that tiny rock, going to have fun figuring out a good way to make a stilt hut/base there! also I will play with friends cause im TERRIBLE with horror games but i LOVE the building system!
I tried building a small base on the very top of the mountain. Enemies would spawn around it, but couldnt do any damage, there are some issues with pathfinding there.
Below your main base where you pointed out the water zone that was deep enough to build at under the waterfall is awesome but them babies turn into piranhas 😂
Half my base completely crumbled due to them stuck under my floorboards flipping and flopping my base to pieces. Was a solid idea but definitely difficult to manage.
so i built my base on the ocean starting point. thinking i had the peninsula behind me, but, the enemies started spawning on the end of the peninsula by the ocean and would run into my base. cause i had the wall on the one side thinking i was safe with the ocean barrier. alas i had to build a wall going ALL the way around my base instead.....
When the lakes freeze over... I was thinking how about we could cut A small circle on the lake so we could fish, and also use it to collect water. I thought that would be pretty cool!
yeah. and grenades doing damage to ice too.
or to cut a new moat around our now exposed base
@@kringlez4801 it would be cool if we could do that with the shovel, in any season, on ground or just break the ice around your base

I live on the Location 4 (we're 2 on Normal, almost on Day 60)
But instead of on the Beach, I live over the hill (where he is standing at 8:55), we only defend the corner of it.
The most underrated item in the game imo is the rope gun, you can bring back logs to your base from half way across the map without even touching the ground if you build either treehouses or platforms for you and your logs to cross and switch from zipline to zipline.
tried getting that wasnt ready haha
Even within your base?
@@TotalXclipse Yes even within your constructions. Walls are useless if you make them too big, exactly like in the first game sadly. I hope they fix this, put an emphasis on routes, and only make them spawn in their camps and near caves. I hate when they spawn around you no matter what you do. Feels immersion breaking af.
@metasamsara hmm I've never had that happen
Rain catchers are now in game but freeze in winter
A pretty good base for a Brit? I didn't know geography came into how we play games... 🤣
there is a spot at the beach where the boats are at the river delta (not the kayak)
there is a huge space between the boats and the coast where you can build right in the "river" and all enemies will not atack you but come right on your doorstep
this part of the river realy screws thier pathing and agro
the only thing happening is that a baby might accidantly launch at you
oh and i found a way to lock your door :
if you build a door in your defensive wall ,put 2 diagonal beams behind it and put a plank over them =doorlock
Better yet, put a paper target on the door when it's closed and move it to another wall when you need to go out.
I was going to suggest that spot too but the other waterfall Is my preferred water spot
The beach near the forest crash site is actually a great place to build imo, a ton of space and its easy to get wood.
@@oibruv6348 yup thats where te silencer and the compound bow located at
In the early game it's annoying to constantly be attacked.
Spot 1: 0:33
Spot 2: 4:30
Spot 3: 6:16
Spot 4: 7:05
Spot 5: 8:55
Spot 6: 10:57
Spot 7: 12:05
Spot 8: 14:05
That waterfall spot is definitely best, there are 4 ammo cases and tons of supply cases super close, also the runway isn't far for tons of suitcases, also quick hangglide ride to the gym/lounge bunker for arrows and tech armor and some explosive cases around there.
How do you get the wood to the spot to build?
you keep saying about the lakes freezing but hopefully we get water collectors in the future updates, well for logic sake i hope that if the lakes would freeze so would water in the collectors!
The only problem I have with the remote bases, or any base without water to defend it, is enemies can just spawn on or in your base. Ive even had a mutant spawn on my little port in the middle of a lake
Hmm Ive had a few spawn behind my base but not inside, how large are your bases?
Chose the creek area as it dumps into the north beach. Nice and open visibility for defense. Will see how it works out.
Built on the same lake, water, plenty of animals and pretty local to most points... i think it's the best
If you want to 20 raw fish eaten achievement the snow crash site is the fastest way to get it. Got mine there a few days ago. 4:32
I'd love to know this area you're talking about :)
@@Kevin-mz4ig i think i know where i built a base in an area that sounds exactly like this
The waterfall location is underrated, resources that respawn. 1)waterfall: Rope 2)tents under water fall food/meds 3) two cannibal camps near by including the modern bow bunker mutant armor/ etc 4) plane runway food/etc
How do you get the wood to the spot to build?
There's tons of cannibals there now
its funny you mention that island spot with the frozen lake cuz thats the place i chose day one on release and learned a hard lesson lol
Yep - it's great mid game as an outpost but as a permanent base there are a few issues 😅
That island connected with a narrow causeway, is actually teaming with cannibals, they attack relentlessly.
You should make a video including the opposite. The few WORST locations with the MOST amount of cannibals
im a builder and i havent explored much or played the game much but i found the snow area where u start to be my favourite because from where the crashed helicopter is u cross the river stream where u can get fish and drink all the time and to the left u can go down a slope and what i did was put a defensive wall there looking nicely and to the rocks and that way u dont get any enemy getting up there i found for quite a few days so far and if u make it to the right across the stream u come to that frozen lake and cave and tents.
Those are all good spots. If you make the island on the lake your home just build a beach house in the ocean to winter at.
Try taking Calvin to the island with the small land bridge... go ahead.. try it.
lol we got rain collectors but they freeze too XD
I've never seen that many - when I spawned in there were 4, there's like 12 there now 😅
On the topic of base locations could you try building a base on the helipad dock its on the beach, to find follow the river that comes from the lake on the mountain and when it connects to the ocean head left while looking out to see and you should discover it pretty quickly.
@TotalXclipse yeah it's remote but it's so peaceful. Love this game
Yep that's the biggest issue with it Imo
I tried doing my base there, but it has way too much enemies... Did it do same for you ?
@@noahcognard533 I did not try building there yet. I am near the waterfall, it is relatively safe most of the time.
the spot with the shock baton is awesome
i hope all the empty (frozen and water) caves wil lget some propper rework and wil become deep horror caves at some point, they feel quite placeholder-ish rn
Yeh I think they will
the most important thing about base building in this game is to have one side of your base safe building by any rivver as your back yard and than only have to worry about front and sides mine is up closer to the mountain. But you must have ZIPLINES going to camps near you to get the supplies and stock up once youve done thaqt you really are costing especially if you have all the good wepons or just the crossbow
To me the best base location would be the "squirell waterfall / duck falls" (reason because there is a certain spot of the rocks below of the wayerfall where squirell are gather and you can easisly farm feathers and meat there and they cant get spooked even you get near them)
On the said waterfall you can build a platform just below the waterfall and mobs cant even get to you even in shallow waters, plus water doesnt freeze there
Location is just upstream to the left part of the beach crash site, near the modern axe and flashlight drops location.....only disadvantage is that it really far from all reguired endgame caves and you have to deal with the waterfall's constant sound effects
Enemies do spawn on that island and those are the obnoxious armored muddies or whatever they are called.
If you block it off do they still spawn though?
@TotalXclipse unfortunately yes! They spawn on the island itself. If you stand on the bridge or swim in the water near it, you can see the armored muddies on one side and regular muddies on the other!
I built on the lake island as well. Had something strange happen though. The lake stopped freezing during winter. I built a 9x7 sq fortress there during the 1st winter. hasnt freezed since.
13:57 You forgot to mention the gorgeous view of the mountain from across the lake. That's the sole reason I chose to build there.
that second location with the big lake is where my base is. it is the best spot
Hang glider changed everything for me. Moving higher up the mountain for sure.
What about the hot springs in the mountains that will provide heat during the constant winter?
Great stuff, appreciate the spot-light on the build locations.
I feel like another downside of the waterfall basin base would just be having to deal with the sound of the waterfall allllllllll the time haha
That's fair, hadn't considered that, I wonder if they'll add sound foam 😅🤣
It's actually not so bad, my current base is there and I only really notice it when I go to my house that's directly up against the waterfall on the shore.
Peninsula, I believe is the correct term for the first (possibly 2 if you count the nose mentioned as a separate spot) location.
@TotalXclipse. There are actual islands near the first location that you have to swim to. You can use zip lines to deliver materials to it. It's worst feature is that the land is severely uneven, but just build a foundation for your base.
Your last location is where we are. It's such a great spot.
Only problem I found with the lake base is that the baby mutants can go through the water
I built a floating house on that central lake - even with playing on custom and all enemy settings on low, there is pretty much always at least 3 cannibals on land watching me. Not sure how I'll make it through winter.
Fun fact: the small land bridge that connects a peninsula to another land mass is called an isthmus.
There is a plane crash site on the other side of the mountain that has a lot of loot but you will have to fight for it and the Golf course is nice there to
I instantly thought of Game of thrones when you started walking on the ice to the small island in the lake.
I love the look of buildings over waterfalls etc, but it's too loud. Looks great though.
Winter freezing makes no difference, it is just a few days and you will have walls.
The real problem with water bases is that your companions are not going there, so you have to watch out too much for them.
I am moving in land, making a good defense around. Then your companions will stay safe.
Wall on the "island" and u will never fear the enemys. It is the best spot my friend
I’m at the same place above the waterfall but for us it doesn’t become icy? Or is that a bug fix or smtn?
I think you could still defend your base on location 8 by not using spiked walls and normal walls instead then you could be a lip 1 foundation say around your base to place traps on and spiked sticks through the normal wall, then the only concern is making a route for the NPC's to get in and out so Kelvin isn't getting stuck at the bottom of the lake outside of winter so could do a rope bridge with a maze of spiked sticks and traps so cannibals don't just walk over it, some food for thought.
In my single player playthrough I built in the lake island and and multiplayer we started building in the fang lake location
Building in this gives me Velhiem vibes
Yes I really hope they inspire from the Vallheim build update to improve their own building mechanics (such as angled roof etc)
@@metasamsara could really do something great with it
Am I the only one who built their base on top of / around bunker entrances?
They are a safe “escape” if need be and good loot every time I log on.
The sound of the waterfall would make me crazy cuz it's so loud in the game. I would never want to build anywhere near any of the waterfalls.😂
Are there sharks between the beach spawn and machete? I swim that gap all the time and have never been attacked.
