As a transport enthusiast, it’s really great to hear positive feedback about Indonesian railway. Especially considering how bad it was before. If you were here 15+ years ago, the situation would be much different. “Kereta Api Indonesia” was infamous for its bad service. But one person named “Ignasius Jonan” who were assigned as the CEO changed that, despite people initially thought that it was impossible. KAI is surely one of the greatest (if not simply, the best) transformation success story in Indonesia.

The seemed-like ambulance you saw early was the "ambulance" that is specifically used to take the deceased one to the cemetery. In Indonesia, the family and friends of the deceased will guard the ambulance till the cemetery, ( that's why there were some motorcyclists at the front waving the flags to let other vehicles aware and give way to the ambulance to pass the street without any obstacles )..

If you travel in Indonesia and see executive class and economy class trains, you will be perplexed. Hey! The two classes resemble one another greatly. Each facility is of a high caliber. Almost everything, including the chairs, air conditioning, and electricity, is the same. The service is the sole difference. Since both parties receive excellent service, the executive will just receive more of it rather than better. So you should try the economy class train in Indonesia.

to the west from Malang there's Mt. Kawi, behind that there's Mt. Kelud.. Kelud erupted in 2014 and the ashes was going far away to the west until Jogja which is 250 km away, maybe even further away. I just know it reached Jogja bcs I was going back to Jogja for third semester and the ashes became like mud everywhere after 'washed' by rain

I'm so glad to watch your exploration in Indonesia. To be honest, if you are traveling in Indonesia for less than a year, you will feel that your trip is in a hurry for every city you choose, and of course you cannot fully cover the uniqueness of the cities you visit. Because most of each city, even within one province, has its own unique culture, dialect, cousines, snacks and atmosphere which of course differs from one region to another. Regarding railroad public transport, Indonesia in the last 10 years has experienced a lot of changes that lead to good service and comfort. Even though it can be honestly said, the standard of the existing train units is national standard, but in some areas the condition of the track tracks is still unevenly wavy, making the train coaches feel like it's swaying uncomfortably, especially in the eastern region of Java, which is even worse further east towards Bali. Maybe the relevant autority of goverment can pay attention to this and fix it. If you saw some of the videos from 3-4 decades ago, you would definitely be shocked and surprised at how ugly and terrible this public transport service is. Our country is certainly not perfect, because our country is currently improving and developing in a better direction. Enjoy your journey in Indonesia. Stay safe and healthy..🙏

Actually jay, they are selling food in the train, but in short distances you should ask the menu, because sometime they just have a more practical food like nasi goreng, nasi rames (which is not so good). But in the long distances train (like jakarta-surabaya) they have many variant menu. One you should try and hunt is nasi sei sapi. It is the worthiest and best tastewise dish they have.

Malang is nice cool town, very close to Batu (a nice cool resort town, famous for organic horse milk). Tugu Malang is a nice place to hang out. There is a big hotel across the monument with colonial design, and with nice cafe and restaurant. Lots of people go to Bromo from Malang. Also, I am not sure if you have tried taking VIP buses in Indonesia, but definitely worth a try, very comfortable (provided by bus companies like Rosalia Indah, Sugeng Rahayu, Sinar Jaya. Can enquire at ticketing agents or even at some hotels). Enjoy your stay.

I hope you enjoy Malang... it's my hometown and there are plenty places to visit, down town Malang, Batu and the outskirt - Singosari and Lawang. And if you want to try Bakso - I suggest to go try Bakso Kota Cakman instead of President... it's tastier ( I still cant understand why people from outside Malang prefers Bakso President as the shop is right next to a train track) anyway, Malang is a culinary heaven, delicious food and much more affordable - more or less like Jogja as it's also student city like Jogja.
FYI Malang - Surabaya is a short trip so usually they dont offer meal because it's only like an hour or an hour and half thats why they dont offer you meal. meal in KAI only offered for long distance and over night train trips
good thing that you choose in guest house to stay in Malang. these guest houses are mostly old colonial houses and villas as Malang used to be a tourist town back in the early 1920s - Pre WW2 eras. thats why you will find a lot of colonial houses and villas still exists and well taken care of till this day.

It wasn't always like that. I remember, 20 years ago struggled for a place inside an already crowded train.

Mostly I hold the smart phone on my left hand palm and tap the phone with my right hand fingers. Therefore better grab the vlog stick with the left hand so that my right hand is free to do anything else.

that is hearse, not an ambulance.. in Indonesia hearse use sirine too, because in Indonesia the majority of people are Muslims who require the body to be buried as soon as possible, so the hearse is equipped with a siren like an ambulance so that it reaches the grave quickly. So all hearses, even though they are not for the Muslim religion, all use sirens and get priority on the road too.

The convoy of vechicles has an ambulance and two wheeled vechicle in front and behind if the ambulance is carrying a flag in front of it, it means that it is an ambulance convoy carrying a deceased person to taken to the cemetery

1:13 Hi Jaye, I just want to tell you something about the culture of using the right hand in Indonesia. and actually it is our culture to always use the right hand in social interaction activities, it really upholds politeness. However, sometimes there is a condition that makes it difficult for us to use our right hand, like in this video, you have'nt using your right hand because at that time you were holding a camera. So to handle this, you just have to say "sorry for using my left hand". and you can take the ticket by using your left hand, Indonesian people will understand this condition.
