Yang banyak orang luar belum ketahui, memang ada perbedaan sistem perkeretaapian di Indonesia sejak 5 - 7 tahun lalu. Sekarang sudah berkembang sangat maju sekali. Bahkan untuk Asia, Indonesia salah satu yang terbaik saat ini. Semua kereta, tanpa kecuali, sudah memakai AC dan kursi yang ergonomis dan bisa diatur sehingga sangat nyaman sekali. Ibaratnya naik kelas Eksekutif 5 tahun lalu sama dengan kelas ekonomi saat ini. Semua fasilitas sangat terawat, bersih dan modern. Dan yang harusnya membuat orang Indonesia bangga itu, saat ini hampir semua kereta sudah merupakan hasil karya bangsa Indonesia sendiri. Karena itu saat kemaren beberapa bulan lalu mau diadakan pembelian kereta dari produksi luar langsung ditentang dewan karena kita sendiru sudah mampu. Bahkan saat ini Indonesia sudah mengekspor kereta apinya ke beberapa negara di afrika dan asia. Dan harusnya kalian juga merasakan perubahan besar-besar di jenis transportasi lainnya, bus. Bus-bus sekarang sudah sangat mewah sekali, bahkan yang paling murah sekalipun. Hanya saja sayangnya untuk transportasi udara kita masih jauh tertinggal dari negara lain. Btw, saya sangat respek sekali melihat warga asing yang datang ke daerah-daerah lain selain Bali. Itu hanya berarti 2 hal: mereka ada bekerja di Indonesia, atau mereka petualang sejati yang tahu harus kemana menikmati alam dan budaya Indonesia. Bali salah satu yang terbaik. Tetapi masih sangat banyak tempat di Indonesia yang juga tebaik.
Naik ekonomi saat ini sama dengan eksekutif jaman dulu? Sejak jaman reformasi kereta 2014, ekonomi tempat duduknya sama, poin plusnya sejak 2014 sudah mulai ber AC, WC bersih, lebih on time dan mulai pakai online ticketing. Setelah 2019 itu ga ada peningkatan yg signifikan apalagi untuk ekonomi non subsidi yg harganya sebanding dengan bus kelas eksekutif. Pembenahan dari 2020-sekarang lebih ke fasilitas stasiun yg lebih baik, keretanya sama saja bahkan pelayanannya cenderung lebih turun. Sampai sekarang semua kereta kecuali ekonomi subsidi sudah naik dua kali lipat hanya dalam 3 tahun. Buat masyarakat yg tinggal cukup jauh dari stasiun ini udah ga terlalu worth it, apalagi bus eksekutif via toll sekarang sudah sangat on time. Ga heran juga orang luar bisa ngejudge ini mahal bahkan dengan okupansi yg tinggi dan harganya sama dengan tiket pesawat. Buat saya ini penting karena kereta kelas eksekutif ini memang kelas yg mengejar keuntungan. Naik ekonomi premium karena tinggi saya yg 180cm jadi berasa tersiksa, jadi ga ada harapan untuk adu dengkul. Apalagi ekonomi khususnya ekonomi subsidi yg lebih ke melayani masyarakat. Dulu, jaman Jakarta-Bandung masih ada Argo Gede, tarifnya lebih murah dibandingkan bus eksekutif trayek yg sama. Eksekutif sejak jaman dulu sudah cukup on time plus biasanya ada tambahan snack pas diperjalanan. Tapi ya ini dengan keadaan dan kebijakan yg berbeda, terutama harga BBM dan biaya sewa track. Jujur ekonomi sekarang lebih baik tapi eksekutif itu malah turun kualitasnya.
Jujur dari hati yang paling dalam saya sangat berterima kasih banget ke Pak Jonan dan seluruh pegawai PT. KAI....... sehingga PT KAI bisa menjadi seperti sekarang 🙏
Seya pengguna KA dan memang terasa kemajuan semenjak P.Jonan!!! Sukabumi Jakarta sy pernah bareng ayam...seru2an sama penumpang lain duduk dibawah...AC blebug...hahahaha... semenjak p.Jonan semua berubah total. Penumpang KA dan KRL berani.COMPLAIN bila AC mati/kurang dingin. Stasiun dan Gerbong KA bersih semua sampai ke toilet2nya!!!! Top lah penggerak perubahannya.❤
Pak Jonan memang yg memulai, tapi alhamdulillah pimpinan selanjutnya terus konsisten melanjutkan perbaikan2, dan juga dukungan pemerintah, sehingga perkereta apian Indonesia semakin maju....Jonan is pioneer....

yes, stasiun tugu very well developed, kecil tapi artistik dan modern bahkan stasiun tugu sedang dalam perencanaan central business district/cbd baru di yogyakarta
Flight from Bali to Surabaya it's more cheap because it just from east java to east, different from Jogja to malang it's because from central to east java. And fyi train in Indonesia now have AC in every train, from economy class, executive class until suite class everything available AC. So don't worry when travel in Indonesia wear train. Enjoy:)

A great vlog! Jogjakarta and Malang are TWO great cities in Indonesia. The train system has been improved significantly in the last 5-10 years, it is now very comfortable, feels safe and they are mostly (if not ALL) are on time. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Basically Indonesian regular trains basically have 4 different classes: Economy Class, Economy Premium Class (renaming business class), Executive Class, Panorama Class, Priority Class (ver. A & B), Luxury Class and the new one which will be launched at the end of October 2023 namely Suite Compartement Class.

just an observation here. the ticket you booked is to Malang Kota Lama (lit. Malang Old Town) which is smaller station. you arrived at Malang station (much bigger one) which is a station afterwards.

A little tips for you about taking trip with train in Indonesia: 1. Take a seat in the last compartement train. For example, there are 8 compartemen train set, the best you can choose the last compartement (Eks 8). The last compartement, imo, most quite. But the disadvantage: the last compartement train set is far from Reska (restaurant compartement) hehehehe... 2. On each compartement train seat. There are 2 single seat, in front and on the back compartement. You can choose this seat for more comfortable. But this single seat is usually booked quickly hehehe.

In malang beach 1,5hour with car balekambang, many beach not so far. To batu 1hour waterfall coban rondo( small), paralayang, bns. 1,5 hour come to bromo mountain, good via nongkojajar ( no so far) Enjoy in malang, java, Indonesia. And god bless you
Hi! my hometown Malang, and currently i work and live in Jakarta. totally agree the train ticket is expensive. thats a common knowledge here. the culprit that made you tired and unable to sleep well was the fact that indonesian trains shake so bad like we endure a non-stop mini earthquake all the way to destination. i hope you have (or had?) a good time staying in Malang!
8:30 I went trip pasar senen (JKT) to Kota Baru (MLG) by economic class train Matarmaja it costed me 250K idr, of course there was with AC and Clean Toilet, also good food, so far so good, sorry my bad english.
no need to print bording pass anymore .. right now KAI hv a very smart “face recognation” boarding gate.. very easy, helpfull and so convinient.. u just need to show ur face to screen in the gate wid no need a boardingpass paper, no need show up your ID u just hv to make a very simple step to sign up before, there’s a helpdesk officer will help.. Normal fare flight from Surabaya - Bali (Denpasar) around Rp 750k to 1,500k. Train services in Java is the best part in Indonesia, so enjoy it... regarding the price, it's fair. It's the best in term of price guarantee for you, foreigner/tourist. No price difference with local pasengger. Enjoy...
little tips from me: Be careful of where to put your luggage. Especially if your journey takes a long time and you need to sleep on the train. Always protect it and put it close to you. I lost Mac Book Pro once.
Next trip you need to try bisnis class, it's cheaper than eksekutif, with no blanket (but you can rent for Rp. 10000). Toilet and AC is in, and make sure you choose the best train and time. Different time and train you may pay cheaper. Love from Pasuruan, east java.

Hi! my hometown Malang, and currently i work and live in Jakarta. totally agree the train ticket is expensive. thats a common knowledge here. the culprit that made you tired and unable to sleep well was the fact that indonesian trains shake so bad like we endure a non-stop mini earthquake all the way to destination. i hope you have (or had?) a good time staying in Malang!
@aylinkko, all trains in Indonesia are now equipped with AC, including the lowest class (Economy class).

8:30 I went trip pasar senen (JKT) to Kota Baru (MLG) by economic class train Matarmaja it costed me 250K idr, of course there was with AC and Clean Toilet, also good food, so far so good, sorry my bad english.
no need to print bording pass anymore .. right now KAI hv a very smart “face recognation” boarding gate.. very easy, helpfull and so convinient..
u just need to show ur face to screen in the gate wid no need a boardingpass paper, no need show up your ID
u just hv to make a very simple step to sign up before, there’s a helpdesk officer will help..

Next trip you need to try bisnis class, it's cheaper than eksekutif, with no blanket (but you can rent for Rp. 10000).
Toilet and AC is in, and make sure you choose the best train and time.
Different time and train you may pay cheaper.
