That old Southern boxcar brings back thoughts of my childhood along the mainline west of Charlotte. I miss the old GP bowties pulling strings of all the old fallen flags such as Penn, Santa Fe, The Rock and many others along with bright red bay window cabooses.
i love the engines. i'm a retired navy electrician, and the sheer power of such compact DELEC unit just astounds me. i watch them running, and strings that used to require 3 to 6 powers, now need only 1 or 2. just sheer astounding output of power. good vid, as always!
Awesome kickoff with an unexpected train race, cool. Plenty of fallen flag cars on that last manifest, and other high flying trains. Well done WWOT, take care.
I bet those boxcars could tell stories with the miles they traveled over the years. I recall a hopper car that was owned over the years by as many as 7 railroads and lease companies. thank you for a great video.
Great catch WWOT. You caught them at the starting line. Looked like the CSX was at slightly greater speed. Must recommend, again, that you obtain a speed gun, so you can report how fast these behemoths are rolling. They are relatively inexpensive and hand held. Thanks for your always interesting videos.
ChainsawN&W1218, that was cool to see, NS and CSX were pacing each other looked to be about the same speed and locomotives were right beside each other, great video Alright!👍🇺🇲🛤🚂
Hey wide world of trains I got to say that I love the train race at the beginning of the video I was pretty cool getting to see the Norfolk Southern 15M and then the CSX i157
0:49 We are at the Berry Road crossing in Pomfret, New York on 25 October 2022. As Norfolk Southern train #15N starts across Berry Road. At about 2:50 Norfolk Southern train #15M passes Berry Road. This is an approximate time for when Norfolk Southern train #15M past Berry Road since Norfolk Southern train #15M was blocked by CSX train #I157 which started across Berry Road at 0:50 and had not finished passing Berry Road by 2:50. 0:50 CSX train #I157 starts across Berry Road one second after Norfolk Southern train #15M started to cross Berry Road. CSX train #I157 passes Berry Road at 3:22. You zoom in on the end of CSX train #I157 as it continues west. At 4:11 CSX train @I158 passes Lake Road. You walk across the CSX tracks to see if there might be a CSX train coming on track #2. There was no eastbound CSX train coming on track #2. 5:16 We are at the CSX Middle Road crossing on the east side of Dunkirk, New York. It is 18 January 2023. We are looking east at the bright headlight of CSX train #M367. CSX train #M367 is about a mile east of Middle Road. At 6:42 CSX train #M367 passes the CSX Milepost 39 on the north side of the CSX tracks. At 7:06 CSX train #M367 hits Middle Road. At 8:11 a Southern Railroad waffle side boxcar appears in the train. It looks like Norfolk Southern had to re-stencil the SOU 531294 reporting marks over the graffiti on the car. At 8:31 a Missouri Pacific double sliding door 60-foot boxcar appears. The sliding doors look like they are a 6-foot door and a 10 or 12-foot door. The reporting marks on this car were too blurry to read. At 9:51 CSX train #M367 passes Middle Road. We watch CSX train #M367 as it passes the CSX self-propelled jet engine snow melter parked in the Dunkirk Rail Yard. CSX train #M367 disappears around the curve that leads to the elevated tracks through Dunkirk, New York at 10:22. At 10:44 you zoom in on the signals on the CSX Milepost 37 signal bridge. We see the red signals for track #1 which is the track that CSX train #M367 is still occupying. There is a green signal for an eastbound train that will be coming on track #2 in the future. At 10:57 the lights go dark on the signals on the Milepost 37 signal bridge. At 11:26 you show us the 7-track marker on the crossing gate on the south side of the tracks at Middle Road. 11:31 We see a brief glimpse of a CSX train transporting a high and wide load heading west at the CSX Milepost 41 curve. You did not give us any information about this short snippet of the video. Is this a part of a video of a CSX high and wide load that you took in Mark 2022 that is part of your current Outro? 11:47 We are at the Berry Road crossing at the CSX tracks in Pomfret, New York on 17 January 2023. We are looking east as CSX trail #I001 starts across Van Buren Road. At 12:23 the lights on the Milepost 44.8 signals turn on as CSX train #I001 splits the signals. At 12:35 CSX train #I001 blows its horn to warn of its approach to Berry Road. At 13:49 CSX train #I001 passes CSX train #I001starts across Berry Road at 12.50. At 13:48 CSX train #I001 passes Lake Road. At 14:26 CSX train #I001 passes the Martin/Lowell Road crossing. 15:03 You zoom in on the CSX Milepost 44.8 signals so we can watch the lights on the signals go out . At 15:11 the lights on the CSX Milepost 44.8 signals go dark. You zoom further east at the CSX signals at Control Point #42 which is located at Temple Road on the west side of Dunkirk, New York. The Control Point #42 signals are over three miles east of Berry Road. 15:26 We are at the Berry Road crossing in Pomfret, New York on 17 January 2023. We are looking west down the Norfolk Southern tracks as Norfolk Southern train #28B is about halfway between the Martin/Willow Road crossing and the Lake Road crossing. AT 15:42 Norfolk Southern train #28B starts across Lake Road. At 15:44 the lights on the Norfolk Southern signal at Milepost 46.8 turn on. At 16:14 Norfolk Southern train #28B starts across Berry Road. The train is powered by two Union Pacific engines. Norfolk Southern train #28B passes Berry Road at 17:20. 17:27 We hear the report of the CSX defect detector at CSX Milepost 49.7 report that there are no defects on the CSX train which passed the defect detector on track #1. This defect detector is in Brocton, New York which is about four miles west of Berry Road. 18:08 The Norfolk Southern defect detector at Norfolk Southern Milepost 46.3 reports that there are no defects on Norfolk Southern train #28B. The Norfolk Southern defect detector at Milepost 46.3 is located just east of Berry Road. The second relay case east of Berry Road contains the equipment for reporting what the defect detector finds. The first relay case east of Berry Road contains the equipment to operate the Norfolk Southern crossing gates at Berry Road. 18:24 You start to walk north on Berry Road to see if there are any CSX trains coming toward Berry Road. At 19:12 a quick look east on the CSX tracks shows no CSX trains coming from that direction. At 19:16 we see no trains from the west. 19:37 We are on Third Street between Park and Main Streets looking west at CSX train #M568 on 15 January 2023. At 20:25 a twelve-axel depressed center flat car with KRL 300304 reporting marks appears in the train. At 21:06 you pan west on down Third Street to show us some Dunkirk, Hew York Fire Department emergency vehicles on an emergency call. The first emergency vehicle is an ambulance which appears to turn left on Plover Street. At 21:19 you pan back to the elevated track to catch the end of CSX train #M568 as it passes our location. 21:50 We are at the CSX Berry Road crossing in Pomfret, New York on 3 October 2022. We are looking east at CSX train #
@@WideWorldofTrainsI made the corrections in my comments Wide World of Trains. Thank you for correcting my errors in directions as to which side of Dunkirk, New York Control Point #42 is and which direction we are looking toward from Berry Road to see Control Point #42. I do not know why it is but sometimes I get my directions turned around when I am thinking about locations in the Dunkirk, New York area.
I thought I had seen everything until I saw that train race. I quickly determined that I ain't seen nothin' yet. On the slow-motion recap I saw a beautiful still photograph when the two locomotives were half way across the crossings.

CSX i157 + NS 15m parallel and started at exactly same point!
23K Flashback and the 28b both with the whips out. I'm sure 23K would have won the race! Great fallen flag boxcar shots. Thanks WWOT 👍 🚄👍
