- Saturday, July 6, 2024: With France set to vote in round two of crucial legislative elections, Alison Sargent is joined by Richard Werly, who covers France and Europe for Swiss paper Blick. He explains the reasoning behind France's electoral silence laws. Since we can't talk politics, we discuss whether Paris is ready for the upcoming Olympics and whether we're ready to swim in the Seine. Plus: France heads to the Euro quarter-finals, and the Moulin Rouge gets its windmill back.

we are not in a sporting mood because prices to attend the events are way too expensive , it is not designed for middle class whatsoever.
I mean if you live in Paris already all you have to do is buy the tickets no hotels or airfare…..
What about the people who work for a living.
@@doubleaadoubleaa5538 the tickets are quite expensive, even for a Parisian middle class familly
The French are the original BOUGEE folks
My friends have saved for the last 5 years to attend the Olympic games in Paris. They are So excited (and I am So jealous).
While the tickets for the games and hotel costs are MUCH higher than they budgeted, they chose to stay with their plans to attend. Simply put, they love France (even Paris 😉) and putting money into local pockets - shops, dining establishments, local tour guides - was worth it to them.
So, those commenting should remember that not every visitor will be rich and, rich or not, they are choosing not to keep their money in their home countries. I only hope their presence will be met with welcoming smiles. Peace. 🇫🇷
I was in London for 2012. Once the tourists pour in and start spending money right and left the locals will warm to the event.
I’d have thought both these cities are already accustomed to tourists
That didn't happen. Check your history
@@magesalmanac6424 Yes, both cities have millions of tourists all year around.
Olympics is done. Time they go home and stay in Greece.
Totally agree. It should be a Greek event. That way, they could always use the same stadiums and infrastructures
The modern games and the CIO is a french thing. Pierre de Coubertin, check it out but its french, not Grec.
@@phoque121 100% here in Australia no one wants the games in 2032. It's a political party using it as a vanity event.
@@MrBDROthe Olympics are most definitely a Greek thing.
FIFA too!
French people are not much interested in sport, Parisians even less, and in addition upset by the closed streets, squares and metro stations. I recommand tourists to come another month and watch the games on tv
oh dear :/ I’ve got tickets! 🎟️
but I think the elections are bad timing & hopefully after that, people are excited for the Olympics
@@GaGaObessionexactly I agree. I got tickets and with everything going on it’s not the Olympics fault.
Funny, the filth of the Seine river is from within polluting Paris, not seeping in from the north or south. 😐
Funny that you don't know much.
1.5billion can't stop the problem of overflowing when there are heavy rains.
They are in French mood… sooo, default?! 😅
Les Bleus are hardly.
I would fly to France to see you swim in the Seine
People are excited in those days.
All the swimmers are gonna get pink eye and then everyone in Paris is gonna get it. It’s gonna be hilarious.
Our mood does not matter since we are not involved at all in this show happening in our country, organized by a foreign company with foreign personnel, with international customers, most of them on TV and internet, medieval ideology, partly paid with our tax money. But I warn those who would like to come and attend : it is very dangerous because we have millions of hostile muslims in here.
Yes, many are saying there will be a terrorist attack during the Olympics.
@@Ophelia11quite possible here in France. It is a risk the security services will be planning for.
The filth in the Seine comes from within Paris, not from the north or the south. Nice try though. 😛
Who are the more boring team France or England? Go Spain!
No plan B that's the ticket
Well, isn't Politics the 'modern' sport ?Equivalent of Roman arena . Those entering-would-be hopeful politicians, thown to the (public) lions ? Same eveywhere , France- U.K.-pareil !
They're French. Once the election thing's done (in 2 days), they will be back to the Summer and celebration mode.
I feel like your comment is gonna age like a fine glass of milk
@@Aspett0 Nah, Summer is a precious time. Demonstration season is October-November or May. Otherwise, it's Macron's false to ruin the Summer by calling the election at the wrong season of the year.
@@nokaton You contradicted yourself in two comments : first comment "the French don't riot during Summer". Second comment "well if they riot anyway it's because of Macron's timing"... you are aware of the massive riots that happened last June/July, right? The French will riot any damn time they well please.
@@Aspett0 Monsieur, you take a joke too seriously. Eating some pain au chocolat may improve your sense of humor. Bonne fin de journée.
Riot will happen that's for sure
Resting French Face 😂
Boycott the Olympics. France isn’t even a country. Ugh!
Glad I decided “not” to go to Paris for the Summer Olympics!😊 I was in Paris two-three years ago on business with the influx of migrants and boy, it was chaotic!😂
THere are hardly french players in the football team. Get some players from Africa and win the worldcup. 🤣🤣😂😂
Free bananas 🍌
@@nedludd7622Haaland is Parisien?
Yep. How did it work for you so far, got those world cups lining up your kitchen?
