I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I'm not the only one who thought the emotional intelligence question was showing amusement instead of embarrassment.

Professor Politics - Yea I still can’t wrap my head around why the hell his mouth is smiling or his eyes are closed. Those are not really attributed to any of the options so it wasn’t the best test. I think everyone can agree it wasn’t sadness but there’s a case for the other 3 lol.

My mom has always said that intelligence is like a cup. It’s not really about how big your cup is, but how much you fill it up. Someone of average intelligence who fills their cup all the way may end up inventing, creating, discovering, etc. something revolutionary, while someone of high intelligence who doesn’t fill their cup much may never have a huge level of success.

Damn I like this analogy. I was in Mensa when I was younger and the most idiotic people I've ever met are all mensans. I got tossed in with mentally disabled kids at school due to my speech impediment at the time and those kids were smarter than most of the adult Mensans.
Mensa also has these annual gatherings, and will invite guests to speak. I went to one guest talk by someone who teaches mental math "magic" tricks I found out I was the only Mensan in the room when he asked how long the audience have been members. Everyone else was the family member of a member. I asked around and learned this was normal, Mensans don't feel the need to "improve on their already superior intelligence"

i somehow agree. the cup would signify the potential. the nature. then, what you feel it in would be the nurture part. sounds like a smart mom. but you know, there are also some cups that are just small. like really small. that no matter how much you put into it, it just so easily gets spilled out or in other words, it can't absorb that much.
Well, intelligence is a tool, just like physical strength or slim & attractive body for some people. It really means absolutely nothing, if somebody is unmotivated, especially that smart people are more prone to get depressed

I looked at the colour, the shape of the figures and if the “plank” was diagonal, horizontal or vertical. The rows which go diagonally are also supposed to add up like the rows that go vertically and horizontally (if that’s what you meant). But yes, you could look solely at that as well. Did probably shorten the amount of time you used

I knew he was embarrassed, so you don't necessarily need context. I think context would ruin the test, though. It's meant to test how well you recognize emotion in faces, not your ability to use context clues to figure out what's going on.

Isaac J Being flattered is a comination of basic feelings, so you are both right and wrong. There's some amusement and embarrassment in being flattered. Otherwise, if being flattered was being embarrassment we would just call it being embarrassed.
And honestly, that test was pretty trash. They gave like 4 answers that don't properly describe the situation. Because in different scenarios, that reaction could have been multiple things.

If you're actually intelligent, you will realize that the "tests" chosen for this video were purposefully made so that most people would get them right, which results in a higher like rating for the video.

It's the same thing, when somebody says to you that he/she is fine but you can feel something isn't right.
I felt it was amused embarrassment.
It was a nervous smile, although he wasn't a very good actor. I knew he was nervously smiling but I couldn't decide between A or D. I went with D, maybe it's because shame and embarrassment are very similar. I guess when I feel embarrassed it's a very similar feeling to feeling shame. I don't ever recall smiling when I feel shame though, so I think A is the best option, I just didn't think it through that much originally. I think you can interpret emotions well and still fail a test like this because you don't know the definitions well and you don't take your time.
"Amused embarrassment" were the exact words I thought too. Yeah he's embarrassed, but he's not really that ashamed about it because it was something trivial/goofy he did.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick and Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons.

No worries, this barely measures the intelligence since there are many forms of it. One question on each subject isn't enough to measure how smart you are. But from your comment you can measure something else which is that you're not afraid to admit failure. Many people lack this.
That emotional one doesn't look like embarrassment at all. It looks more like when a teacher find his one of his student's jokes mildly funny, but doesn't want to laugh out too hard as to be unprofessional.

While testing for visual intelligence, I get super time pressured and of those 10 secs he gave me, I spent little more than half of that telling myself to calm down and focus.

The Multiple Intelligences theory is just a theory and has no substantive scientific backing to it. The most conclusive findings on the topic of intelligence are that IQ is the most powerful measurement of intelligence. I think it is important to distinguish between social awareness, musical and rhythmic talent, and the idea of "intelligence", as they haven't been proven to be the same thing. Please be cautious when conflating a learned skill with an innate one.

Is it a actually a theory or a hypothesis? Because a theory in regards to science is a well substantiated claim. Saying it's 'just a theory' doesn't make sense.

I didn't go so well, and people saw that. Now because I'm embarrassed due to my result, I'm going to smile.
The fact that there are different ways to be smart makes me feel so good. Like, I may not be the most athletic, but I excel at other tasks, and that's okay! 😊 Things like that make us unique, right?
When people are embarrassed, they will not facially express they are embarrassed. They tend to get into either rage , or get into amusement to conceal their mental damage.

The emotional intelligence test was subjective and poorly designed. A man with that expression can easily be amused. Also, each of these types of intelligence are arbitrarily defined and have little support by psychology/neuroscience research. The tests are also subjective and one-dimensional.
Is it just my or the *only ones* (ever) defending so vehemently the IQ tests are those who got high scores in a test, while not having actually done anything remarkable in their lives?

fluid iq measures your ability to learn and solve problems and it caps between the ages of 21-35 then it starts decreasing
crystallized iq measures your overall knowledge it never goes down unless you get a mental illness or trauma to the head or spine
the multiple intelligence theory just states skills that anyone with enough time could master

I got every test question correct, except for the "Emotional" one... Yet I find that question to be the only intriguing/thought provoking question on this quiz... It's the only question there that is completely subjective, none of the answers are right, nor are any of them wrong.
All of the answers there can be entirely correct, based solely on your personal judgement, how well you know the individual giving the expression, and the context in which this expression is being used in...
For example, to me it was 100% C (Amusement)... The context I was imaging in this situation was if I was in a bar/pub playing a game with the person... Say we were playing a game of pool or darts, or any other skill related sport, and I had just made an unbelievable shot in the game... With this context I see this reaction as a smiling nod of disbelief, yet clear amusement...
His expression is saying that it was a great shot, yet perhaps a lucky shot... Despite however great my skill in the game may be, I still see this facial expression as one that is saying "That was one hell of a lucky/unbelievable shot, but you still made it so kudos."
So in this situation the expression is clearly Amusement, given that context.

That question was a very tough one, and there's some grey area there, but even in the situation you described there is a level of embarrassment there ("that was one hell of a lucky shot" which implies that on some level you didn't deserve it, hence some embarrassment).
Like I said it's really close, but I think you have to give the edge towards embarrassment: look at the brows, they are slightly furrowed which would never happen with pure amusement. the smile is a closed mouth pushing out the cheeks type smile, not a big happy grin. For me, what I thought of was something like when you get kinda rekt in something, and say "yeah you get me there" and nod your head knowing you got rekt this time.
Also giving context to the situation would kind of defeat the purpose I think, if they're simply trying to test people's ability to read faces. And no, it's really not subjective. It was a difficult question, but that doesn't make it subjective. Pretty much all of us have very similar ways of expressing emotion through facial expressions, if we didn't it would be really hard for us to judge another's emotion in general. And in general, almost all humans are actually very good at it.
The emotional intelligence one if flawed because we've never seen that person before. We don't know that person. A real test would be to see a picture of someone you know like your spouse or child, and then you will most likely know how they are feeling.
I got all correct it and that one was the easiest. It's the way he had his head down while smiling as if he's blushing or embarrassed. There was no blushing so yeah

I agree. I just said that bcoz ive been listening to his lectures recently and he mentioned that. I dont agree with him on that. Personally I am leaning more towards multiple intelligence theory... but who knows
dcon9995 look he just mentioned a person who understand this very well is prominent in the field and has done his homework when compared to these type of TH-cam channels. I don’t agree with multiple intelligence theory because it don’t take long until you notice that they are part of different psychological terms. For example the visual test might as well be a test for memory which is tested in IQ test. So before you start making up new stuff try to see if there’s a category that already fits it.
Absolutely, and while we will grant there are other ways to be talented aka in leftist talk 'special' . IQ is still the best measure of intelligence and the best predictor of success. That's why people hate it and why they cling to the any other test they can.
