  • We've driven the Mazda CX-5 many times, featured it on TV comparisons, and recommended it on the Podcast. But we hadn't driven the upgraded Turbo version until this one arrived for a real time Test Drive. The guys discuss why we like the CX-5, how it fits in Mazda's lineup, and more as we drive on freeways and backroads.

    Actually I do understand you logic with the problem with traction control absence so I was concerned about it and check out other channels who gave this traction assist a test and it looked like it worked really well when they did their off road traction assist tests. So that actually impressed me by the looks of things Mazda did ok. I'm saying this cause I'm looking at purchasing a vehicle in this range and I haven't decided yet which one I want to buy. I have to got for some test drives first before I make my final decision. " I am in all wheel drive mode I'm not on winter tires and it's currently snowing Bahahahahaha. " I just about pissed myself on that one. Meanwhile you don't see a snowflake whatsoever falling from the sky. lol

    Love this review. I actually drove a rental Grand Touring from Las Vegas through Redding,CA to Washington state. It was definitely comfortable. When I wasn't driving (sleeping while friend drove) seats are very comfortable. Power is great. Currently in search of 2020 Grand Touring for my mom.

    And now they have a 10.25" screen, with the new entertainment system, even better. Also, now they have the Carbon Edition with Turbo, which is even cheaper, than the top two trims.

    I am getting one in spring, 2022. GTR version. It is a better suv than anything in it's price class by a comfortable margin. The rav4 (owned one) was slow and handled lazily by compare. The honda crv is about the same. Hyundai and kia are slow. The ford escape is crude by compare.

    Why Mazda does not sell twice as many cars is beyond me. Fit and and finish and durability is second to none.

      Because most buyers rely on known brand in reliabity and depreciation like Toyota and Honda and Mazda during Ford's time isn't recognized as the two above brand. But now they ate now in 2020 Mazda was voted as the number one most reliable car topping Toyota and Lexus. So I believe that in the coming year this trend will continue. Second reason only few buyers are considering their decision from car reviewers comments and which car is fun to drive.

    • @Mrtellitlikeitis
      @Mrtellitlikeitis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The don’t have a long history of reliability. Come talk to me 10-15 years of proven reliability. Plus, pricing and discounts are wanting. It’s like pulling teeth to get a nice bottom line. Also, the one Mazda dealer near me looks like a 3rd world country business. Run down, dirty, punk kids as mechanics on their phones constantly

    After three years still love my CX5. Featured on the programme 9 months ago but still have not bought a 3rd fun car mainly due to covid. Now thinking of getting a Jaguar or Mercedes sports car modern classic. Love the podcast and videos so keep going.

    I drove a CX-5 Grand Touring with the NA motor and loved it, but unfortunately couldn't get it at the right price for me at the time. I am a huge fan of the infotainment control and I wish every day that my Hyundai had that as the touch screen is just a little too far away and requires looking to use it.

    still got my CX5 and never goes wrong ! My no turbo in the UK ? Just drove a CX90 at EAA airventure in Oshkosh recently and CX5 turbo models are sold in the USA. Why not the UK when the CX60 is too big for me on UK roads

    What do you guys think of the criticism of turbo that I see elsewhere: that while a turbo provides a nice driving experience, it also has a negative effect on reliability and puts a strain on the engine?

    • @TestDriveVideos
      @TestDriveVideos  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Turbos versions of any car potentially cause more strain on the engine. We still expect this engine to be long lasting and reliable as Mazda has been using it for a while in other models. Thanks for watching!

    93 gives you 250hp and 87 gives you 220. What do you get for 91?

    • @Alboravin
      @Alboravin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      87 gives you 227hp. 91 would get you somewhere in-between the base 227hp and the 250hp with 94 Octane, so somewhere around 240hp probably.

    Another excellent review! I have a 2015 mazda touring. It isn’t fast but quick enough on merging traffic. I still love driving it. I can affirm that it is reliable overall, never have issues ever since. There’s one minor thing I don’t like on my CX5, the rear-end design-it’s too feminine frankly. Hopefully, mazda will address it in the future throughout its lineup.
    I am planning to purchase either cx30 turbo or mazda3 turbo. Just waiting for the cx30 turbo. I am certain that you guys will review it.

      My wife and I test drive the CX-5. We went with a CX-9 but only for that extra bit of room. If my wife didn’t need it, she would have been happy with the other. It was confortable and drive really well. It felt well made and taut. I definitely recommend it. The carbón edition is good looking, too.

    • @richardholmes5209
      @richardholmes5209 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've got a 2018 model with leather seats. They are firm but comfortable. Drove 145 miles last Sunday and felt as though I'd only driven round the corner when I got out. No problems with back ache like my previous car. That wasn't a Mazda though.

      We test drove one recently and we found them very comfortable. I don’t come with much rearward padding and it was a nice place to be. On the other hand, we test drove a Hyundai Tucson that same day and I felt okay in the front seat but the rear seat was intolerable. It’s all subjective, but we went with Mazda.
