[Synopsis]
The road to becoming an empress is paved with treachery. Ruyi (Zhou Xun) is a consort who quickly learns to navigate the treacherous politics of the royal court and move up the ranks. Can Ruyi maintain her role as Empress under such difficult circumstances? “Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace” is a 2018 Chinese drama series directed by Wang Jun. It is adapted from the novel Hou Gong Ru Yi Zhuan by Liu Lianzi and is a sequel to the critically acclaimed 2011 television drama “Empresses in the Palace.”

I love Ruyi's humility when she bows to the inhabitants of the Cold Palace. The Empress and the Consorts could never hold a candle to Ruyi and her kind heart.
“Hongli” NEVER deserved “Qingying !!!” He went from promising & telling her “Don’t Worry” to having to always, somewhat, apologizing by saying, over & over & over “I’ve compromised you.” Ruyi is such a genuine & a humbly grateful woman. She would always respect the other “previously favored, yet forgotten” women in the cold palace. She also would never forget Ling Yunche’s kindness & loyalty, saving her FOUR times - not twice, as mentioned by the other guard. He saved her from the snakes & the snake bite (that’s twice already), the fire AND from the arsenic poisoning. He also told her how to earn silver to help her ease their stay in the cold palace & how to buy better food. But, sadly, Jiang Yubin discovered that she & Suoxin were suffering from rheumatism as a result of their diet, not knowing that it was being tampered with by the Empress.
I couldn’t help but wish that “Qingying” had refused Hongli’s marriage proposal so that she could have lived a freer life outside of the palace. Perhaps some will of fate would have still brought she & Ling Yunche together. Instead of both of them suffering so horribly, maliciously, unfairly via others scheming & deception, they would have fallen in love, gotten married and lived happily ever after with their children, family (her father & mother would not have been murdered by Gao & psychopath Consort Ling) & loyal friends like Jiang Yubin, Suoxin, Li Yi - who came from the same village - and maybe even A’Rou as well, who grew up with Qingming. Oh well…..one can still daydream & wish for a happier ending.

Not just that. The people in the Cold Palace is how you really know that she's a kind person. She took care of all of them inside, it's why they refer to her as 'your highness' at the end when at the beginning they were all for giving her as many heart attacks as possible.
She always visits the upper walls as a feeling of regret I feel. Regret that she ever agreed to be with the damn emperor

1000 PERCENT AGREE!! AMEN!!! Also confident enough to protect those he loves/cares about and willing to help others without hesitation. Qingying deserves a man like Ling Yunche, instead of Hongli - who cares more about clan power than Qingying. I guarantee you that if Ruyi had been a member of the Khorchin Mongol tribe, or even the Fuca clan, not only would she had been the Empress, but the Emperor would have protected her like she was the gold secured at Fort Knox.
