    He is so arrogant and foolish. He thought he could disrespect and compromise her again and again and she would always take it and forgive him. He played his cards wrong. A woman can only take so much before the love and willingness to put up with being disrespected will be gone. Ruyi has reached her point. Now only thing left for her is to punish those who have wronged her friends and family and she will be in peace. He will never know peace and will always live with regret for all the people he wronged especially Ruyi who has never wronged him.

    • @KRoseB
      @KRoseB 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      He really did play it all wrong. His first empress was a nervous, graceless wreck. Yes she was frugal but she was always murderous & scheming too. She knew she was second to Ruyi in Hongli's heart. It was only politics that kept him from fulfilling his choice for 1st wife. He never seemed to catch on that it was the first emoress' jealousy & insecurity that cost him & his harem peace & children & consorts livez too. Still as first empress was dying he knew all she had done & told her so. He had contempt for her in her last moments but still held his anger & distain in check for the good of the "great Qing". Where was that control when it came to Ruyi? He did not have compassion for her children lost...for how much it might break her heart when he confessed undying love for Rong. When he ordered his poems about first empress to be published & distributed. Did he forget how many children & harem members first empress tortured & killed? In fact he waz heartlessly and intentionally cruel to Ruyi. He desired the harem woman to continual stroke his ego & sooth them without anything real in return. Ruyi was a even-tempered gracious kind pure hearted person. Its laughable that Hongli & his crazy mother never saw this in Ruyi, until she was effectively dead. Even then his grief was for himself not for what he put her through.

    I imagine if HaiLan had ever wanted to become Empress, she could have become so. She has become a lot more cunning and able at the harem games than Ruyi. The Emperor trusts her and knows she's honest. She also doesn't love the Emperor so would not have cared about who he temporarily loved or not so avoiding being hurt.

    • @souveniehollande979
      @souveniehollande979 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hailan may have grown more cunning over the years, but Ruyi is still a formidable and intelligent woman. So the fight for the Empress' seat would be a hard-fought and complicated struggle, maybe even similar to the conflict between former Empress Ula-Nara of Jingren Palace and Noble Consort Niuhuru/Empress Dowager, and would only end when one or the other is dead.
      That would be an EPIC drama though. To watch two women who were once best friends turning against each other and fighting to the death. Oooh.

    I think this moment is when Empress Dowager understands Ruyi’s conversation with her in the beginning of the show. She loved Hongli sincerely and didn’t care about being the empress. I’m glad that at the end Ruyi still maintain her loving quality even in her lover changed.

    • @PungiFungi

      The Dowager once loved sincerely in her youth. But years of scheming, backstabbing and fighting had turned her into a skeptical cynic. Everybody is guilty in her eyes until proven innocence. You will see that in all these palace dramas, the protagonists often start out young and carefree and idealistic. As the series progress, they turned hard, vengeful and calculating until they are barely recognizable once the series end.

    I know Wei Yinglou is evil in this series but one thing I like about her even here is that she never falls in love with the emporer. She knows he's just a petty small minded pervert who only loves himself and plays the victim. What set her off was that she cared about the emporers health, well-being and his reputation as "ruler of the world". She was furious that he had a huge lapse in character and was drinking heavily while partying with the lowest characters totally mindless of his own reputation. She saw it as a total abandonment/death of the man she knew & loved. This act of self sabatoge was the last straw for Ruyi. She felt he could choose to live as he wished but could at least have self-respect. He was so drunk he pushed away everyone who had previously looked out for his best interests & protected him. That was another whole level...the people he surrounded himself with at that time could have easily poisoned or killed him. He was too drunk to consider that aspect & hated Ruyi and Li Yu who always lookex out for him. B
