  • Hi Guys,
I hope you're all well and find this video interesting or helpful. As I mention in the video I am not 'cured' from social anxiety but I am now able to work around it and know how to deal with it. If you have any kind of anxiety or mental heath issue, I hope you can relate to this and I apologise that this is an hour long video. I could of split it into two parts, but I really wanted to just make it one, and get it all said in one video.

Hey Girl! I haven’t finished watching yet, but I just wanted to pause and say “THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!” -I suffer from Social Anxiety and it really sucks because sometimes I blow the tiniest things out of proportion; I won’t walk my dog in daylight, I won’t answer my phone, I will always use self service and if they don’t have it, I’ll probably avoid the shop. I have a huge fear of being in a bank and people thinking I’m going to try and steal something and I can quite literally have a panic attack if I feel someone is looking at me repetitively. Its comforting to see that there’s someone else that has similar issues, because it definitely feels embarrassing at times. I did CBT face to face and then they changed it to phone consultations, so it abruptly stopped because I just can’t talk on the phone without my stomach doing summersaults and the anticipation of waiting for the call was too overwhelming for me. Anyway, back to the video x

Thank you for making this video. It's reassuring not only to hear people talk about having the same sort of problems as you but also having the same traits within the problem. Like phone calls and restaurants etc. I am happy that mental health is becoming more of a talked about issue. I have been asking doctors for ten months now to be assessed for CBT. I was sent to a stress control course, even though it gave me no help with anxiety whatsoever I still went. And now I am finally on a three week waiting for a face to face CBT consultation. It is extremely hard for me to keep any kind of job because my anxiety gets me so worked up. I don't sign on because the staff in the job centre are awful! So I'm just clinging on with my current job feeling like a failure. Thank you for making this video, sorry for rambling too x

..... Rewarding myself for doing something I would get anxious about once I did it once I knew I could do it, a lot of the time I was still feeling anxious while doing these things but just kept pushing and pushing telling myself I've done it once I can do it now.. Eventually the anxiety in these situations slowly reduced and reduced and now it's pretty much none existent I again agree you never fully get rid of anxiety but there so many ways to deal with it and kept it at bay! I'm so proud of you for doing this video and so happy that you're in a better happy place with your life :) I hope that you achieve everything you want too in life! Anxiety has stopped me doing many things but I wouldn't have the life I do now if I didn't have that bad time in my life - I'm glad it happened in a way as I view life completely different now. Take each day as it comes and see the best in every situation you face :) E X

Hi Serena, I knew I had to watch this as I've been through a similar thing in the past myself! Only just gotten around to watching as I wanted to listen property, actually played it through my car on the drive to work, sort of like a podcast :p. It's so good to hear another persons story about the awful reality of what anxiety does to you and your life. I've been in a similar place where literally wouldn't leave the house, couldn't go or for meals, couldn't use public transport etc and yes it is debilitating - so weird as it typed that it popped up on your video ;). I too used to go to the doctors in tears which was awful - you feel like such an idiot/ failure! I was lucky in the respect that I somehow managed to manage it myself - I was proscribed propranolol but didn't really feel it was doing much, I was on the waiting list for CBT but months and months passed and heard nothing, luckily I managed to push myself and get into a better mind set, taking each day slowly and kind of.....
