  • El Helicoide was supposed to be an iconic shopping mall, but it's now one of Venezuela's most notorious political prisons and home to the country's feared secret police.
    The BBC has been investigating the jail and has been able to reconstruct scenes from inside, based on accounts from former detainees and extremely rare interviews with former security officers, to paint a remarkable picture of life inside one of Venezuela's darkest places.

    Helicoide is one of the most renamed Concentration Camps / Torture Prison in Venezuela created by Chavez and Maduro. There are more than 20 of this concentrations camps around venezuela, where thousand of people is being held and torture everyday, without any access to legal court or health system. Maduro And chavez took old buildings and factories to create Vertical Concentration camps that can not be bee by satellites. Most of the family from people kept capture there not even know that they are there. Most of them must pay to jailers to give info to the families and to get food, cloth or even a shower. Maduro and Chavez are war criminals

      And then collapse the entire framework of Venezuela? I don’t like Maduro at all but sometimes it’s better to leave countries to make of their situation what they will. The most we can do for now is try and provide humanitarian aid through Columbia, but even now Maduro is inching closer to the border to cut off supplies to his own people.
      Military intervention should be a last resort. We don’t need another endless power struggle like what happened in Iraq and we certainly shouldn’t waste the two hours it would take for the U.S. to take Caracas by force. Remember that we can, but likely won’t. Foreign policy 101.

    There is little food, water, and prisoners are dying either from starvation or disease because there are little or no medicines, so being in prison could be a death sentence - sanctions haven't helped or the fact that the oil production cannot be increased as the equipment is outdated with no investment possible - also the corruption and criminality of sections of the population via gangs, who are desperate to make money is so ingrained now, even in the police, it is hard to see how that can change - I do hope things improve over time

      British civilian prisoners are given fair trials. True I am not in Britain but I am sure a country as open as Britain would have been caught years ago arresting random people on the streets if not by News but by tourist and foreign workers in that country

    BBC care about capitalising their brand and if they had to make a controversial stance to stand for the people , they wouldn’t . Closer to a political party then a community

      This happen because they elect uneducated leaders. Sure, nobody want a mob strolling/destroying the street, we all hate it, but their leader is clueless, have zero understanding of human right; you can't just imprison people first before getting confession... and in Philippines, same, you don't like drug dealer, but you can't just shoot people without confirming they're guilty.... this is what happen when leaders didn't go to school. You can see same thing in US too now the president is absent minded.

    • @xponen
      @xponen 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In US, now, there's ICE taskforce detaining foreigner/immigrants away from their home, and border security detaining children away from their family. This all because people elect a dumb leader... it was fine before, it was same law, same political system, but different politicians.
