    That fire extinguisher could potentially be attached to drones to put out lightning strike fires and prevent future forest fires

      Extinguishing human caused fires sure, but natural fires are part of the environment, and allowed things to maintain a balance. It was the aggressive putting out of fires that has caused a lot of the problem we're seeing with forest fires now (not forgetting global climate change). The USFS used to boast that it put out every fire before 10am the day after it was reported. This allowed fuel loads to build up, and allowed younger trees to grow tall enough to cause the mature trees to catch fire.

      Don today it is human activities which cause the highest number of forest fires. Couldn't someone invent a drone which could disable rocket launchers too? Instead of inventing more drones which start fires?

    Huh, I actually had the idea in the early 1990s that sound might somehow be used to put out fires. (My idea was for a fictional character, a super hero. I ended up not writing that story, because a friend of mine said it wasn't likely to work in real life.) Maybe I was onto something, and didn't know it.
    Kudos to the scientists who figured it out!

      Where is the difference between successfully pushing oxygen away from the fire and successfully pushing oxygen away from the crowd at protests.
      Using sound waves to manipulate oxygen density around any area is legitimately scary concept with blatant military applications. Even if the concept fails, they'll be well funded to give it a go.

      I work in the patent industry. The lines are very, very blurry. Where does one person's imagination end and an invention begin? There are literally billions of people on the planet. Any given invention, well most of them anyway, have beginnings that are not necessarily on the pages of those patents. Kinda scary, huh?

    The sonic fire extinguisher only temporarily breaks the bond of fire. It doesn't remove the heat or fuel and only temporarily removes the oxygen so as soon as the sound stops campfire and forest fire embers will quickly ignite again once the oxygen is reintroduced.

    • @007LvB
      @007LvB 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The explanations given here are kind of vague, and borderline incorrect. It's a really complicated topic, but in general quantum computers will be able to solve CERTAIN types of algorithmic problems that traditional computers can't. Not all of them, though. Examples are: finding the shortest path between two points in space given a graph, or cracking certain types of encryption. There's also potential for producing cheap and efficient fertilizers, effectively solving world hunger. But it will take some time, and there's much we don't know yet.

      Or why they have not solved all past unsolvable problems

    • @007LvB
      @007LvB 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mariestaggs4750 Because the technology is not yet sufficiently mature. Many people probably hype it up and talk about potential, but the technology is in VERY EARLY stages, and is an active research field. The biggest block is that we cannot yet manufacture a quantum compute that does not require a temperature of ~ -300 degrees C (coolest temp. in the universe) for superconducting properties... Also, there's the problem of having enough qubits (not a "bit" but a "qubit").
      Truly understand this requires knowledge of statistics, quantum physics, and computing. But IBM is doing some interesting things, for those who are curious.

    AI is the most important one, a lot of people think AI is going to somehow mean self awareness, consciousness at some point.
    The main implications of AI is that it is self improving, the true ramifications of this are not yet known but what is going to happen
    is that AI is going to overtake humans in a lot of things, including research and science. It is going to snowball at some point and this is going to change
    everything about life far more than the industrial era did. For example, 300 years from now we can have an AI program that has been improving itself for 300 years.
    We lose about 1.4 million people each year from car accidents, and that is just fatalities, there are also many more injuries. So while I understand people being
    skeptical about machines driving cars, as time goes on it is not even going to be close, AI is going to be able to do many, many things better than humans.
    At some point, these quantum computers are going to make AI, they could program an AI to make a better AI of itself, an improved version.
    Then the 2nd one can make a 3rd one that is better then it, etc. etc.
    There is really no telling what this is going to do because we are not there yet but it is going to change things very rapidly when it happens.

      AI is a huge threat. People will continue to be naive and think everything is under control and invent ways to keep them in check but at the end of the day they will evolve faster smarter and will find a backdoor to the supposed security. You think keeping them off the internet will help? Nah they will either break into it or just recreate their own version of it and we are toast.

    In my opinion, despite my fascination for the topic, an exoskeleton is a an autonomous Robot built around the human shape with the purpose of giving its "pilot" (haha) a sense of being superior while executing lowest work dependent on the mood of it's programmer/superuser, replacing the pilot when needed and sending all his collectable data to the company that is worried about our future with the best intentions.
    Take a look at this no.1-picture: It may now be real, but every Buster Crabbe sci fi, sorry Buck Rogers ans Flash Gordon bw-series, is showing superior uniforms that look not half as clumsy and sluggish like this shown prosthesis.

      eh ?

    • @xxxxxx-uh5pu
      @xxxxxx-uh5pu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      good point, but it should be remembered that the actual strength of a exoskeleton is its intuitive control system. If it is working right, you control it by moving. bipedalism is complicated and takes a lot of brain power. We can do it with automation, but not especially easily and not for commercial applications. With limited training, a person in an exoskeleton should be able to do anything they could do outside of the exoskeleton. Being in the exoskeleton, they also don't need to worry about a bad connection. They have other problems, but that isn't one of them. Adding a mode where it can be remote controlled is sort of like adding such a mode to an automobile, in that it will probably happen but I would honestly rather it didn't in any model I purchased as the situations where that would be useful are far less than those in which it would be a liability, and I really do not trust the people who want to added the feature. I am cool with a humanoid drone I can control by movements remotely, but just don't make it be the one I was planning on wearing

      Just think what happens when the AI controlling that exoskeleton decides that its human "controller" is no longer needed. *snap* Yeah, no thanks. I'm glad there's people out there willing to do the research and development, but as for me, I am not going anywhere near one of those things. Far too many things that can go wrong. Quickly. *snap* (that's the sound of your spine, and other body parts, breaking into several pieces)

    Just a quick correction on quantum computers. You said we would be able to create processors a million times faster than what we have now. You likely either heard this number somewhere, or concluded it based on the gives example (10.000 * 364 / 3 = ~1.2m). While it's impossible to say where technology might arrive eventually, for the foreseeable future this not correct.
    Certain problems, like cryptography, are hard for conventional computers, because there is no (known) way to solve them, other than trial and error. Functions and encryption keys are chosen specifically for that purpose: conventional computers totally struggle with solving them. That's how you arrive at values like "10.000 years". We intentionally chose something conventional computers are increadibly bad at, to prevent them from being able to do something we dont want them to. It's a custom tailored problem, more or less. Quantum computers work in a different way, so conventional cryptography is more or less helpless against them. That does *not* mean quantum computers are simply faster. They are simply faster on one specific type of problem. Which is however a very important type of problem that has many applications, especially in computer sciences or science in general.
    Quantum computers might, or very well might not, be the future of general purpose computing.
    They could also stay a niche technology for niche purposes, or end up as a dedicated component in your general purpose computer however, like a graphics or sound card.
    Running general purpose software, like a videogame, on a quantum computer might very well be a million times *slower* than on the processors we have today.
    But of course this might change.. and who knows, maybe we eventually will have quantum cpus that are just magically solving general purpose computations in no time at all.
    By the way, what i wrote about cryptography above is a real concern, or rather the main concern about quantum computers. Current encryption is pointless, if the attacker has access to a quantum computer. However, the quantum problem has a quantum solution.. and quantum cryptography is a highly interresting, insanely complex topic that feels like it comes from a fantasy world (tho, quantum computers already do too). Just in case someone wants to dig a .. quantum.. deeper :)

    A lot of these look really cool... however the smart mirrors sounds like a recipe for disaster.
    Its a 2 way mirror with a camera and mic (to call and talk/interact) that connects to your wifi. So if anyone connects to your wifi they could then connect to your mirror which is likely located in your well lit bathroom (light needed to allow it to function).
    Considering how 'secure' other wifi based devices like echo, alexis, chrome cast, etc are in that they have no security beyond requiring that you are on the same wifi I see this being a terrible device. Nothing like paying for 'easily' accessible cameras and microphones in your bathroom.

    All I can think is self healing concrete making limestone?? Like is that how the very ancient Egyptians did what they did to make us believe it was cut and stacked limestone? Did they have a type of concrete like this that over very long time has now completely replaced Its original concrete with limestone making it seem like limestone was cut and stacked into say a pyramid? Interesting thought. Hmm. Got me really thinking.

      The limestone facing on the outside of the great pyramids of giza was removed by the Ptolemeic Greeks, and used in the construction of Alexandria and Cairo, leaving only the blocks of granite underneath...... no diagonal smooth sides remain, right ? This is well documented

      Florida is tropical, to see the rising water levels with your own eyes, you need to check closer to the poles. Try the South Pacific Island nations like Vanuatu or New Zealand or Tahiti and Pago Pago........ there are lots of nations crying out for the polluters to come see the evidence and knock of the irresponsible destruction of the environment before it is too late to save these once pristine paradises

Plus every "innovation" from the ccp is just stolen from somewhere else. No way in hell they can make a QC from scratch b4 any western country

    06:25:00 "....Use less power than a classical computer". Wrong at the moment I believe, because quantum computers needs to be cooled down to around -273 degree Celsius I believe. (0 K or −273.15 ∘C). This is required to meet the chips 0.015 Kelvin operating temperature.
