- Scrap metal yard drop off, then transfer station for monitors, then a new job and back to the TF station for another drop off, all happening today.

I must say since I started watching your videos that you have to be one of the most respectful scrapper and I say that because you say good day to the people whose scrap pile you go through , you don't walk up and just start throwing stuff around and making a bigger scattered mess and leaving stuff everywhere and not caring unlike other people in your line of work. Also here on the states we don't have certain times to get rid of bulk waste like furniture and what not , it goes out on this day and they come around with the truck and pick it up. The scrap fridge, bikes, what not go out Also depending on if the store you bought the product from offers free removal which your big box appliance stores do and take it back and either gut it themselves or just fill up a large truck with a lift gate or a semi full of appliances. Some people just put at the curb and a scrapper will roll by and take it. E-waste is handled by e-waste companies and they accumulate hundreds of pcs, lap tops and I think some cable boxes in which they return and get a few bucks. But anyways I just wanted to give you a compliment on how you don't make a mess and hopefully the other scrappers will follow suit. Keep on scrapping, cheers 😊
Light Steel Prices gone Up - happy Ben ! Your Van is Bursting Full and off we go to the Yard - hey - 334 Bucks - man that is Not Bad at all ! That Transfer Station is Fantastic - Bins for TV's and Monitors etc ! Pick Up from that Elec.School and back to the Transfer Station - ha - that's how it sometimes works out - but at least You have another Client - they Barrel Full of Wire makes it worth while and You never know they may give You better Materials next Time like Computers etc ! Hi ben! A few days ago i got my first Toroidal transformer. I started undoing the wire just for fun. A learning experience since i deal with anything & everything while i scrap.
Ben, the Smartboards are all aluminum behind the white coating that you can peel off. Lightweight but a good 10 pounds of clean ali from some of the bigger ones.

Hopefully the college will work out better for you next time. I know with some of my larger accounts, I take a lot of just garbage off their hands, but the good stuff they give me offsets those costs. It's rough, though, when their first load is mostly garbage and you have to make a judgement call on whether it will be worth it for the future. Good video, Ben!!
Just a suggestion. Keep a to go tool bag with you, so if you run into a situation like that pick up, you might be able to get a little more scrap off of things you can't take. The white boards frames are usually extruded aluminum. Thanks for the video.

At the pick up I was thinking that much of that stuff could well warrant a return to the transfer station. i could not see why not, other than retracing the route might not have been on, but, no, it was re-visit the transfer station.
Higher a helper for $60 a day and save your body! Haha. Great video.
Or maybe a conveyor floor that you can activate to unload

Very sad 😞 to see all the big flat screens and monitors and all them PC towers go to be scrapped. But it will mostly turn back into new stuff for all of us
Some of the bigger TV has a aluminum back and a big aluminum Peace inside also
4:40 Why don’t you pull up alongside/sideways the dumpster at the yard so that you don’t have to turn around a full 180° every time you go to throw a piece of heavy steel in?

I’m guessing that the recycling centre has no item limit then? Some I have seen have a 5 item limit on TVs, screens etc… I like this one better 😇

I wonder if there's a way to setup a pulley system so you could put all that in rolling bins and load them into the van that way. Rather than doing it all by hand.

Man I'd be making a killing on my steel if my scrap yard paid like that, I just took in nearly 1.3 ton of heavy steel and only get $100 a ton.

hi ben i have a question, where do you think i could find scrap like this i really like the electronic world and i would love to collect it and recycle it and get a learning experience from it.
Put out some flyers and tell people you know to tell the people they know that you're looking for this stuff and willing to pick them up.

Most of that stuff has a resale value many times greater than its scrap worth. The POS machines can be sold whether they're working or not and old monitors are minimum of 5-10 bucks each...people repair these things and resell them scrapping is the absolute last resort IMO
I don't know anybody that buys used monitors, even some scrap yards don't want them.

I know this is an older video, but you would think the yard go to you'd figure they'd have a shredder so they can process more material and make more money and space.
When you think how many times you have to handle each piece ugh, just a "bit of petrol' as payment is not enough! (?)
Buddy why not pull the side of the van up to the dumpster. Way more efficient. All those extra steps and throwing one laptop case at a time.

I see, so here in England, shred steel is mixed scrap with cloth and wood or plastic stuck to it. And you get your price without deduction. Thanks Ben.
