I believe JP is going to play an extremely important role in the next drumming generation. He will be our Famularo, Eskrine, or Weckl. His education will be known all over the drumming world even more and more. Keep up the good work JP!
By the way, when I rip on the advice "just get out of your own way," I am not criticizing Dave Elitch's excellent, highly technical course on Alexander Technique applied to the drum set, which happens to go by that name (for good reasons). I'm criticizing a type of discouraging advice that is frequently given to students who are seeking guidance on improvisation.
Keeps Left foot counting on hi hat while he taps the mic on/off with left hand. They say a great drummer keeps that hi hat foot counting.😅 pretty cool. Great Lesson. 💯💣🥁🎶🤘 Made comment early during video. Halfway thru & This video/Lesson is extremely potent. Well done. Thank You for the knowledge. 🤘🎶🥁
Hi JP, I wonder if you have in mind a lesson focusing on the hihat. It’s one of the places drummers spend a lot of time, playing grooves, and switching from quarters, 8ths (which I often tend to fall into by default) and other variations really changes the feel. Would be great to hear your thoughts on the topic
This is great man! You’re a really good and well spoken educator. The examples, scaffolding of principles, and explaining how it applies across genres is top notch. A thousand thanks!
First of all, thank you for sharing your knowledge with all these great videos! :) haven't watched yet. Is the method related to the moeller technique or Gary Chaffe's idea?
Thanks! No this is more a way of making melodies than a specific technique like Moeller method. I'm not sure which of Chaffee's ideas you're thinking of, but I haven't studied his stuff. There is often overlap with teachers coming up with adjacent ideas so I wouldn't be surprised.
Hi JP, I have a question. Down up method addresses groups of 1s and 2s, how do you segue into groups of 3’s from here? love these last few videos you’ve put up.
An excellent question. Groups of 3 are a significant jump up in difficulty. So I have teach that in a separate course for flow mode ("Mastering RLK in Straight Time"). Great thinking.

“Light some candles”… that one was over the line, sir. 😂
That`s a black belt right there.
100% university-level quality, and a well-articulated concept. Much appreciated, JP. 🙏🏽
You, Sir, are a Genius in both drumming and teaching !

At 13:00 are you improvising that whole groove? Without sheet notes it's really hard to follow along.

What mic you using for all this?? Sounds fantastic! (for the kit)
Thanks! It's just two overheads (AKG C414's) and a room mic (EAD E300S).
