I’ve been informed, there are r*pe lists, harassing, targeting of vulnerable and female gamers. This is not ok, Sea of Thieves is too good of a game to have their very own Rare sit silently over. I’m standing with all those targeted and worried.
I mean it's not ok but what you gonna do? Arrest people for gamer talk? It's vile but there is a reality that women and men are different and women will always be targeted by men because its easy. Rare need to address it but if they don't we can't do anything. I might be missing something but like let's be real man... if it was men doing this to mem, you wouldn't be making this video. If it was just cheating you wouldn't be making this video. This is a reality check and our society likes to chat a lot about how women are just like men... so it is what it is... its not ok but the gamer talk isn't going anywhere. Lady's need to just realise that the people saying this aren't gonna actually do anything its just words. Mute them and move on.
I’ve been in chats in sea of thieves game where players have said extreme stuff… Like we are in a bad time for gaming… This game might die. It’s very toxic so I’m trying to not “feed” into it but getting attacked a lot by people I tend to not turn the other cheek.
Thanks for bringing attention to this - the awful behavior and cheating I've been encountering in 2024 has been way more frequent and way worse than ever before. It's not good enough.
I have advocated for a playback mode in SoT since I started playing. Initially because I wanted to look back at the stories I've had on the seas. Now, I want it so Rare can hone in on the cheater problem.
Forgot to mention hackers can cause their targets to be BANNED from the game. Even Rainbow Six Siege, which is a game that's NOTORIOUS for it's hacks epidemic, doesn't get this bad.
The game is clearly on its way out. Rare is obviously teetering between putting things out to keep people interested and cutting funding to avoid throwing away money.
From being honest, I’m disabled. I came to this game to make friends and have fun until a certain. TH-camr decided to let his certain fan base target me all because I was beating the shit out of him and he decided to edit his video to make himself feel better. I’m still gonna come back to the game, your input has very much make me hopeful that this game can get better

They use hacks that basically give these already vile people indicators to female accounts, streamers etc, with the things that are getting said and done I wouldn’t be surprised if kids aren’t also hearing things they really shouldn’t hear.. rare needs to speak up, thank you for commenting

This is why I've been having difficulties playing SoT the last few months. As a female & content creator I've had this happen to me more than I like... I used to love meeting new people on the seas.. but lately i haven't been on the game anymore and if I do.. I mute my mic and any form of ingame coms to try and prevent this from happening.. it sucks to see it happen to this game that used to be all about meeting new people, having fun... and having to take these measures while we should be able to feel safe
thank you for chatting about this. i myself appears on their list and get non-stop r4pe threats and the classic abuse insults thrown my way. sadly, as of maybe 3 months ago, I've stopped playing. call it cringe as you will, but I'm sick of rare having their heads up their ass. they need to do better.
Honestly... this is the ultimate culmination of "Tools not Rules" For Years I have seen people arguing against targeted stuff like this, people being absolutely horrible beings in this game and the reply was always: "It's a pirate Game/ Its a sandbox! People should be free to do as they want on the seas" You wanted a completely free Multiplayer Sandbox, ya gotta deal with the consequences of it. Persoanlly I've given up on the game months ago... I've been targeted and verbally abused on the seas before and all I got was "Get better, play another game"... Glad I don't have to go through this mess anymore
I played this game on launch and went from grinding pve all the way to being part of the NAL for years, made so many solid friendships, now is all gone since arena was removed all these great players have been slowly leaving, I left a year ago and dont miss what SOT is these days. RIP
As someone who also has thousands of hours into Sea of Thieves, and am even part of a community that had it as the main game for pirates to sail the seas, it really does break my heart to see the game come to this. The thing that bothers me the most is that Rare does practically NOTHING about these blatant cheaters, but will ban you on the spot for just playing the game, all because some salty swab reported you for stealing their Chest of Legends. I mean they literally banned Theb while he was fighting a blatant cheater for Flameheart's sake!! And they ban you from their official discord if you so much as mention theb! As for my personal experiences with these rampant cheaters, I sadly have dozens, but one of my latest ones had the cheater in hourglass saying many.... MANY vulgar things to the point I'd probably be on a government list if I were to parrot all of it here, but the things that got to me the most involved him saying that I was an Autistic 'r-word' that should.... keep myself safe, and that I deserved to be.... well I probably shouldn't repeat it because it's way too disturbing (like this Cheater MF was just sickening). Now this bothered me because I am actually Autistic. While I know my experience isn't nearly as bad as others', it still hurt, since my Autism is a thing I'm self conscious about at times. And I know that no action was taken despite my report, because I encountered the same guy a few days later in Hourglass (I recognized the voice and their distinct insults). I didn't even engage the 2nd time. I just scuttled and got off the game. Oh.... but 2 weeks later, I was aboard my brigantine and stole a stacked Fort of the Damned from an alliance of two Brigantines, they were salty and got my friend temporarily banned just for being a pirate in a prate game!!! Ironic, because these salt lords said a dozen n-words during their tantrums after their ships were sunk. And its this reason why whenever I encounter a hacker, I'm just like "..... so THIS is what Rare is siding with, huh folks?" While I obviously want nothing more than for Sea of Thieves to succeed, I just honestly think the game is too far gone at this point. The devs have proven that they don't care. And the cheaters are just going to get worse. I mean they already have in the form of hacks that allow them to literally BAN you!! I mean when it comes to the point I'm literally scared to play the game because I don't want to lose my account to cheaters.... you know it's gone too far. THIS! MUST! STOP!!!
@@refinedzero I actually got an additional analogy to show exactly how rare is handling this. You know that scene in Madagascar 2, where the penguins are flying the plane? Kowalski notices the red light that indicates low fuel, and Skipper asks Rico for the manual book, only to use it to shatter the red light and claim the problem was solved since there's no longer a blinking red light. Yeah, that's basically what Rare is doing now. Lol
My friends and I got banned from everything related to the Rare ip because one of the employees invading a private discord server that my friend made. The person is unknown as they imitated my friend when they joined, and only a day after they were kicked out, we got banned
I'm glad to see so many videos on this topic, none of these issues existed when I played the game long ago; along with the server management Rare really needs to step it up.
It actually makes me upset to see titles like this. I truly love this game, and its has quickly became my passion over the last few years. Its the only game i have ever been able to play all day every day consistently with no burn out. You are right though, there are GLARING issues that cant just be brushed under the rug. Well say "Nerdy little heart" from the CHEST! This IS an amazing game and I relate to you because I have the same passion, years of playing, barely any to no burn out.. however these days its not as easy to just hit report and move on, that is what people are already doing and it just isn't enough, so the players are doing what they can but it seems like Rare are not offering more where I feel they could. It is far too easy for these bad eggs to be back on the seas, on an alt within an hour harassing more potential children, females, genuine people trying to have fun. I would even bet that some of the hardcore community in PVP would be way more vocal if this continues because when they get pooned and slapped by cheats constantly with cringe insults like everyone else even they will feel lost. It's affecting everybody and I agree, this needs sorting fast.
@@refinedzero i use to love sea until I did the hourglass gamemode. This was 2023. i quit after 4k hours after the misery that was encountering hacker after hacker after hacker on that stupid gamemode. it was depressing, ive never been able to enjoy the game sense. its just frustrating, even when doing pve and just vibing. and i know a huge group of streamers who feel the same, in 2023 they FESTERED the hourglass gamemode.
I will say I appreciate your little “Why should you listen to me?” At the beginning, I clicked on the video out of curiosity and am glad you are someone who genuinely enjoys the game instead of one that just hates the game but continues playing it (for some reason). @@refinedzero See I’m someone who genuinely liked the pve aspect of the game and I tolerate the pvp aspect cause It IS part of the game, people are gonna attack and try to sink you its a pirate game. Ive never understood why people love being so…malicious with what they say or what they do… I have made alot of core memories with this game from helping new players, to having epic battles…Recently with the PS5 release my buddy and I who I have known since grade school have been really enjoying ourselves, I am a very laid back guy who speaks before firing my cannons…Id hate to see this game continue down its hole that it keeps digging due to neglect from a non accountable company…Heres hoping it gets better man, there will always be bad apples, just means people like us gotta make the good ones taste all the sweeter.
insults and toxic stuff has always been part of gaming BUT if thats true that ppl can filter out and go after specific ppl anytime they want then thats crazy and def should be fixed.
It pinged me to say this, but walking away from this game was the best thing that ever happened. It pained me to say this because I have such great memories with this game, but it’s just sad. We’re certain TH-camrs and certain people have to ruin it for others.
I can’t tolerate trying to build a crew on their Discord server. If you put an hour/allegiance requirement and someone doesn’t met it, they will flip, refuse to leave and just act like a child. Mods don’t even ban them now so they just come back eventually.
hey, first time here and I have to say, really well said man I seriously don't understand why they don't ip+hardware ban when you hack or are extremely toxic I mean, my best guess would be that cheaters need to constandly go for new accounts, in turn making rare more money but that would be insane I hope they will start to fix their cheating, toxicity and support issues so every pirate out there can start to enjoy the game again!
Having over 3K hours in SOT myself, I have experienced similar players across the seas saying all kinds of slurs and abusive language as this has been a problem for a while. Having taking a break from SOT for a few years not too long after hourglass was introduced, was thinking of coming back to the game, but having seen the huge amount of bugs, exploits and insane of cheaters in the game, I don't intend to play anytime soon unless Rare focuses on fixing the core aspects of the game and sort out the huge influx of cheaters running rampant on the seas
I hope they get it under control and our voices can instigate this faster, hopefully soon you and others will feel happy to return and that will be a great day
i'm kind of glad i've been taking a break from the game. I was overwhelmed with some of the past updates and this would just add to it. i dont hate to say it but i probably wont be back until this gets fixed because i deal with a-holes in real life at my job, i dont want to in a game i used to be able to relax to.
Every time I get into any game it’s immediate toxicity. Not in a oh I’m so sensitive type of toxicity but just straight sickening and is just draining crap. Almost every random either leave as soon as they join, don’t talk, burn my ship, and or troll. Rare is incredibly lazy as a company and hates their players. They’d rather slap a sword skin in rather than go to fix the hacking and constant crashing. Perma bans being given out like candy. PlayStation is still broken and crashes/lags constantly. I will probably drop this game very soon even though I pretty much got it two weeks ago. What a shame.

A lot of people are saying "oh it's not dying you're just being dramatic", and I used to be one of those people too. But if you check steam stats for Sea of Thieves, the game is getting less players now than it did in Season 9, which many people (including myself) consider to be the worst era of Sea of Thieves. Group posts on Xbox are also less active than in Season 9. These obviously don't represent the majority of the player base, but the only group not mentioned yet is PlayStation players, and their activity on SOT was down 57% by May
As a 15 year old female who plays Sea of Thieves alot I've come across some vile people. Some of these players are just messed up and think its so funny to sexually harass women, especially young women. It's honestly disgusting and really frustrating coming across these people. I shouldn't be scared or nervous to speak when meeting another player, nobody should! I love talking and sailing with other pirates in SoT and ive met some amazing people but these players are ruining it for not just women but for everybody. I'm so glad to see someone addressing this because when i bring it up its passed off as "fun and games'' or that it was ''just a joke'' and i need to ''lighten up''. These are grown adults (atleast the ones ive come across) who have no business in a video game saying these gross threats to anyone. Thank you for the support and i hope this game isnt to far gone because it is one of the best games ive ever played.
I’ve played Sea of Thieves since 2020 with 112 days played- I can honestly say that I’m incredibly lucky not to come across many of these people. Rare need to step up their game and take these allegations more seriously. I don’t get why people would target a fellow player in such a way. Is it to feel powerful? Sadistic tendencies? I genuinely don’t see what people have to gain by being this toxic.
me and my brother have actually had an encounter with a cheater very recently. We were doing a Skull of Siren Song and suddenly this guy literally spawns on our ship and starts double gunning like crazy. I know he was cheating because after 10 minutes of getting sent to the Ferry of the Damned countless times, we finally killed him only for him to appear on our ship again. After the second kill he didn't appear again, but I immediately reported him for movement exploits. I'm honestly glad I didn't have voice or text chat enabled because I can't Imagine what he might have been saying. After the second kill, I checked the horizon I didn't see ANY ships even within render distance.
Today I was playing with my friend one of them a girl and a guy just spawned starting insulting and harassing her like crazy and spawn camped us until we left, if this doesn’t change community day will be a bloodbath
The problem with rare and their community management is that rare doesn’t care about their community cause as you mentioned sea of thieves is “the open world pirate game”, so no matter how bad the game’s community has gotten it doesn’t really hurt their profits. The only thing that tends to get rare’s attention is when there’s a major controversy (the most recent one being what happened with Theb), and even then they tend to do the bare minimum to deal with it, which in the case of Theb was just to unban him and I think they unbanned Noobface too (I’m not sure about Noobface though) they didn’t do anything beyond that because they didn’t need to, not even an apology to Theb for trying to ruin his entire livelihood.
I honestly never comment but i figured i should share my experience. I used to play all the time with my guy friends but they all quit due to the cheaters, I tried solo slooping but ended up somehow getting targeted because im a woman. I don’t play the game I love anymore because it genuinely scares me the things people say to me.

I’m like you. I truly loved this game. I play especially when I’m having a hard day or whatever. But here lately I just haven’t played. I’m slowly drifting away because of the cheating and nasty people. I really hope they get ahold of this. But I’d hate to see a beautiful game die.

As someone who has been blind to this due to me playing on console only servers it disgusts me that this is the current state of the game outside of console servers and that Rare does not seem to care in the slightest about there community
To be perfectly honest, I’ve spent years playing this game and it was a whole lot of fun for meeting the different types of pirates out there but ever since late 2023/2024, it has gotten worse. Rare has been banning every single person that has been saying bad stuff about their game and allow cheaters and hackers into the game with no repercussions and abuse the community. I get that “It’s a pirate game” and so on but that is not the case here. I have left the game entirely (though it makes me sad) because of Rare’s incompetence and the fact that they are trying to silence the community, a game is supposed to be fun and a getaway from realities problems but they just put people that harass you and don’t ban them, that’s when the game needs to be turned off and that’s just the same for Old Bonesy.
Thank you for making this video, SoT is a great game and i love it - But what is going on at the moment is greatly disappointing and until something is done, i'll not be streaming it as a female streamer. So thank you again.
if rare would just dedicate the same time and effort to squashing out actual harmful cheaters and harassers as they did to banning a certain content creator who's done so much to help the community actually thrive, this issue would have maybe never become an issue to begin with, it's genuinely just sad how screwed rares priorities are.
As someone who is relatively new to the game I can say it has one of the most toxic player bases I have ever seen. I am not so vulnerable that this will get to me but I know some are. Its disheartening to have such a great game ruined by people who seem to revel in nothing than other people's pain.
I stopped my 10 year old daughter from playing on anything except Safer Seas due to the vulger language she has heard. Rare really needs to step it up here.
The toxicity has gotten worse year over year. Also, having open pvp in a game that has such incredible pve and a rich world is truly awful. Most of my friends are sick of being stuck in hours of pvp when they were just exploring or lootless.
Its not much better on insider. I spawned in and went to my boat. Put down a voyage. And someone camping the outpost kills me before i even leave the dock. This is all within 1 min of loading in the game. I messaged him and said youre the reason people are leaving this game.
It’s unfortunate this is all happening, my thoughts are with everyone affected. This has always been my only gripe with this game, I have played for the first couple years on Xbox then I went to PlayStation and only just recently started again since it’s come to PS. The people are the worst part about this game. If something like safer seas even offered the same opportunities I’d never again touch high seas. On Xbox when the game was still new I had one or two positive encounters and met some good friends, but especially since coming back to PlayStation, all I get is people calling me slurs and getting 5 man ganked by people when I’m by myself. The other people ruin this game. Haven’t had a single positive interaction with anyone since I started playing again. Hopefully something can be done
I am a trans woman. I was tracked down by a crew that spouted transphobic slurs at me during my live stream. Luckily I had footage of them and was able to report, but it is certainly something I NEVER would have seen happen pre-easy anticheat...
I left a year ago and I played since week one. I checked it out maybe a month ago and although the new weapons are fun, the game has become a haven for the toxic and the cheaters. None of my original friends I met on the sea are there anymore and I won't play without REAL solo servers. I like PVP too but without solo servers the game will die. If I can play and combat a server of hand picked friends I'll come back but until then I don't want anything to do with it. I also have thousands of hours and fond memories of what used to be...
As a playstation player it hurts me that I get isolated because of the late release of the game on playstation platform and it is very frustrating and stressful to be as good as the other players from Xbox and pc, I try my best but I can't stay 24/7 to play a game but I'm also tired of being rejected because I'm not "Pro Player" , I get it but sometimes someone wants to play and have fun, but it's impossible for me to have friends to play with on SoT, I love this game but I can't play it anymore with a toxic community like this, I do hope things will get better for everyone and especially for the women that didn't deserve those horrible and disgusting insults I hope the best to everyone and let's fight to make this game better 💪🏻❤
What you don’t get is hackers are computer programmers and so is rare. It’s kinda like putting Superman against Superman! The only thing that will work is ethical gamers joining forces to preserve the games integrity.
The unfortunate reality is that Rare doesn't seem to care and is a shady company(?) themselves. I remember last month hearing about Rare targeting a player named theb and there's a clip out there by a developer who actually bans theb while he's fighting off cheaters, and the dev instead calls theb a cheater to justify his ban
I hate cheaters, exploiters and toxic players like these with every part of my body. I agree with the vid. However there is a problem with kill cam. It would allow scouting, inspecting ships, loot on board, etc, which is important in game like this. I don't see it working here.
Gotta love how the dev’s are going the valve route with this. Pretty much ignoring the problem because “hur dur this game is still making millions”, and ignoring the community outrage. I’ve seen enough evidence to show that rare doesn’t actually care about their community, and personally I won’t be playing nor supporting this greedy company until something is done.

used to love spending an escapist hour in the world, actually had Becalmed played at my Dads funeral.....but not now I choose not to spend my time with cheats and ar5eholes.
This is why I stopped playing, the amount of cheaters was becoming a joke. I came back after i heard about the anti cheat being added and was so excited to return, only to find that nothing has actually changed. I was heading to the burning blade and a guy just kept teleporting onto our ship despite no ships in sight, he also stole the fortune chest from the burning blade before we took over it. and pestered us the entire time in that session, just merging from the floor and attacking and omg. i left SOT again after that I will not return untill rare pull their finger out their arse.
Sea of Thieves is beyond saving. Even if rare gets there ship sorted and fixes the hackers and there blatant favoritism, the game has a well earned reputation as a toxic wasteland full of PVP sweatlords i once was eager to play, but now i will not touch this game ever

I've been marked a "comp r-slur" for the past year and a half. The same cheaters every time show up on me and messed with me. All i've noticed since anticheat is their cheats getting better and the devs getting more creative. I uninstalled the game and i haven't played for months now and i don't plan on coming back. Rare doesnt care
I love this game , a lot. But even controller servers are being bombarded by cheaters and major exploiters. There’s several “unsinkable” spots that people park in in hourglass matches. Chronus users every three matches and major bullying when you get sunk they rub it in. I’ve gotten past all this and continued to improve to where I’m at today but this is why player retention is terrible. Absolutely terrible. It’s hard to convince friends it will take time to improve with practice when they get tdm’ed/ sunk repetitively then bullied often for being “trash”
Ive been playing Sea of Thieves since beta 2018 and the amount of tickets ive put in with evidence of people threatening to commit mass shootings to comments about me bejng a woman could make a 3+ hour video
I don't play this game anymore because of the cheating problem. I used to love a couple hours of playing here and there. But, getting cheaters that grief and insult me every time I played was too much of a negative experience for me. Definitely not worth the aggravation.
When i encounter a cheater i immediately switch servers. Loot or emmissary level doesnt matter... i switch servers and dont even get upset about it....
they do already implement hardware and ip bans. the problem is they don't put enough effort into distinguishing who is really cheating and who isn't. i never cheated in this game yet i got redbearded without any "final warning". Their community manager and support teams are simply full of clowns.
For me game died when i received false-positive result after EAC implementation. Permanent ban cos my ISP blocked EAC connection for some time due to some restrictions.
Again, this is why I play with console players only. Xbox pretty much filters out cheaters, and you can report in game chat to MS to remove the players
Its really weird. I see and hear so many People getting bombarded with Cheaters. Yet i never ever See any. I know they're out there. And its not that im just avoiding pvp. Pvp is like Meth for me. I do hourglass and consistently fight other players. But i almost never encounter cheaters. Mabye i have some kind of Insane luck i geuss?
I play as a female character and we can literally have absolutely nothing on our ship and multiple players target us for absolutely no reason. Weve even had multiple ships at the same time target us when we had just left the dock after selling and sink us when we had nothing for them to collect and its put us in a bad mood for most of the session. And we also have had a few run ins with potential hackers as well that had us questioning things
A lot of people don't fully grasp just how pathetic Rare is when it comes to cheaters. Athenaware allows you to... Ess/Aim Teleport via cannon Teleport via spawn locations. Insta ladder Insta quickswap. Go invisible and be invulerable. Fly Duplicate Items Insta repair boat while close enough to an outpost. Cannon Aimbot Walll bang throug almost anything Follow people through dive. Vpn mid session. Dive to a specific server with a marked user. And yes finally. Users can Mark players as streamers or Female. And then Other Users will see them specially marked so they can teleport over and harrass them. The fact that it even got to this point is insane. Rare needs to patch the vast majority of this out. Or things will only get worse and the cheats only get better in Rare's continued Absence.
I feel like they are making a new sea of thieves in unreal 5 and allowing this one to slowly fall. But if that's the case it won't work well for them cause then who would buy the second game if they didn't acknowledge the issues of their first game. Or they want to be silent about it for now since they don't have any solution and will announce something when they finally have something. I am just throwing out random thoughts. But I do want this game to succeed I have played it since day 3 or its release and had tons of fun and tons of headache with the game but those memories are still amazing lol.
I face a lot of cheaters in hourglass i feel like its almost every other fight where we are facing somebody who is just “too good” and i have a huge problem believing that many people are, that, good. A kill cam would 100% help solve the issue with the cheaters if we could send that to rare
Oh I wish I could like the comment 10x over, I completely respect people who like myself have put silly hours into the game and learnt how to be better and this means I hesitate to call hacks on just anybody I consider to be good.. this isn't however a coincidence, there is definitely a big problem with cheating and then the problem of harassing and the two are almost married together (I say almost, because there are still those who do not cheat and still harass) I understand we will never truly get rid of that, but where my anger falls is on Rare's shoulders because more can be done and enough isn't being said. @@refinedzero im fairly new to SOT i only started playing this May but i have the skeleton curse already so i play a lot of hourglass in comparison to the time i have spent on this game. Seriously annoying to lose winstreaks to somebody that is cheating, im just glad i dont face any harrassment on top of that because i honestly would probably just stop playing. Seems like the anti cheat isnt really doing its job, because there are so many of them that are just blatantly doing it.
06:00 exactly this. They have to offer a safe environment to their players no matter what. As an Xbox ambassador i know Xbox takes these things seriously so i believe they should work with them to resolve this asap...
I stand by this message. Things have gotten way out of hand with this game. If they don't do something pretty quick, they're going to lose it all. Bringing out new content can only patch so much. The harpoon gun is surely going to be a game breaker too. They might as well give everyone a batmobile or a spiderman suit too. FIX THE TOXICITY LEVEL AND CHEATING Rare, or else my family and I will find a new sea to sail.
Don't get me wrong harassing and rape lists is totally screwed up and these players should be banned. But I could honestly care less about any other toxicity right now. This game needs to focus on bugs, content, quality of life fixes, and less monetization. This is what is truly killing the game. When I ask any of my friends why they quit this game it will be for one of these reasons. I have never even heard someone say they quit sot because the community is too toxic. It is honestly one of the nicest communities in any online pvp game I have ever played. If you think this game is toxic spend 5 minutes in a rust, csgo, or call of duty server and tell me which game is more toxic, and yet those games are loved by many and are still going very strong to this day. Focusing more on player behavior just means they will focus even less on everything else.
Hardware bans would likely be a great way to get these people out of the game. While yes, there are likely some who will find ways around it, it'll stop a large majority of people. IP bans may stop some, but VPNs are easy to use. The fact that Rare is not only ignoring but neglecting people with these sort of issues is just baffling. I recall seeing a video regarding the discord conversations you mentioned, and I was disgusted by how they simply didn't seem to care. Now, they are likely the equilivant of a Reddit Mod, but that being the people-facing aspect of the game while the support tickets not solving issues makes for a terrible combination. I'm pretty new to the game itself overall (under 100h), and I find it a great game. I still need to get over my "fears" with PvP and whatnot, but knowing that there are cheaters and people making comments to women/streamers that get away with it nearly scot-free doesn't make a good impression.
Nice detailed message, I’d like to say welcome to the Sea of Thieves but with everything that’s happening I’m sure it’s not exactly great. There is good people though which thankfully allow good discussion and awareness, it’s just protecting that and not letting this drive people away. You’ll get there with PvP it’s a matter of time and it becomes easier, practice shooting your ships bell whenever you’re sailing with the guns, it’s a little trick I used to do to passively help my aim 😊

i cant even report players and what not properly because the ui on playstation sucks. i remember everyone complain how playstation forced pc players to create an account... i had to create a xbox account to play sea of theives... and you know what their friendslist never works in game, their ui stutters and the report button barely if ever does anything.
Im one of the ``sweats`` and today I played with my 2 long time friend we are slowly trying to get better by small inprovments. And when I come from Uni. and want to play just to clear mind and after really hard sesion we get 8 streak in hourglass. 1 of the win was also against the cheater, we win we are so happy, just to get sink by another cheaters witch are ceating 2 in 1 crew. It upset me bc I cant do nothing about it.
IP bans and hardware bans just don’t work. If you get IP banned you can just unplug and replug in your router and it changes your local ip. Hardware bans can be easily dodge by a slight modification to hardware settings and other things.
@@augustino7529 not really. Both types of bans have unintended consequences. Since sometimes multiple people can play on the same IP an IP ban would ban everyone not just the cheater. Hardware bans can have similar unintended consequences
I keep trying to get the gold curse but i dont have enough friends to cheese the tall tales and im just not going to do them all 5 times... also the biggest issue is and this is a shocker. Adults are the biggest players and supporters of video games. Wow i know.. its almost like were the ones spending the money. Anyway. This game takes at least 4 hours to feel like youve accomplished anything. Im not just going to hop on for 30 minutes of wave simulator. Lol. Its an all day game. If youre single. No kids no friends or 9 then this game is great for you. I have advocated for a playback mode in SoT since I started playing.
Initially because I wanted to look back at the stories I've had on the seas.
Now, I want it so Rare can hone in on the cheater problem.

Forgot to mention hackers can cause their targets to be BANNED from the game. Even Rainbow Six Siege, which is a game that's NOTORIOUS for it's hacks epidemic, doesn't get this bad.

As a 2,2k + experienced player I can say that this game is completely dead, but it didnt die by itself - got destroyed by brainless developers.

This is why I've been having difficulties playing SoT the last few months. As a female & content creator I've had this happen to me more than I like... I used to love meeting new people on the seas.. but lately i haven't been on the game anymore and if I do.. I mute my mic and any form of ingame coms to try and prevent this from happening..
it sucks to see it happen to this game that used to be all about meeting new people, having fun... and having to take these measures while we should be able to feel safe

For Years I have seen people arguing against targeted stuff like this, people being absolutely horrible beings in this game and the reply was always: "It's a pirate Game/ Its a sandbox! People should be free to do as they want on the seas"

I played this game on launch and went from grinding pve all the way to being part of the NAL for years, made so many solid friendships, now is all gone since arena was removed all these great players have been slowly leaving, I left a year ago and dont miss what SOT is these days. RIP
As someone who also has thousands of hours into Sea of Thieves, and am even part of a community that had it as the main game for pirates to sail the seas, it really does break my heart to see the game come to this.
The thing that bothers me the most is that Rare does practically NOTHING about these blatant cheaters, but will ban you on the spot for just playing the game, all because some salty swab reported you for stealing their Chest of Legends. I mean they literally banned Theb while he was fighting a blatant cheater for Flameheart's sake!! And they ban you from their official discord if you so much as mention theb!
As for my personal experiences with these rampant cheaters, I sadly have dozens, but one of my latest ones had the cheater in hourglass saying many.... MANY vulgar things to the point I'd probably be on a government list if I were to parrot all of it here, but the things that got to me the most involved him saying that I was an Autistic 'r-word' that should.... keep myself safe, and that I deserved to be.... well I probably shouldn't repeat it because it's way too disturbing (like this Cheater MF was just sickening). Now this bothered me because I am actually Autistic. While I know my experience isn't nearly as bad as others', it still hurt, since my Autism is a thing I'm self conscious about at times. And I know that no action was taken despite my report, because I encountered the same guy a few days later in Hourglass (I recognized the voice and their distinct insults). I didn't even engage the 2nd time. I just scuttled and got off the game.
Oh.... but 2 weeks later, I was aboard my brigantine and stole a stacked Fort of the Damned from an alliance of two Brigantines, they were salty and got my friend temporarily banned just for being a pirate in a prate game!!! Ironic, because these salt lords said a dozen n-words during their tantrums after their ships were sunk.
And its this reason why whenever I encounter a hacker, I'm just like "..... so THIS is what Rare is siding with, huh folks?"
While I obviously want nothing more than for Sea of Thieves to succeed, I just honestly think the game is too far gone at this point. The devs have proven that they don't care. And the cheaters are just going to get worse. I mean they already have in the form of hacks that allow them to literally BAN you!! I mean when it comes to the point I'm literally scared to play the game because I don't want to lose my account to cheaters.... you know it's gone too far. THIS! MUST! STOP!!!

My friends and I got banned from everything related to the Rare ip because one of the employees invading a private discord server that my friend made. The person is unknown as they imitated my friend when they joined, and only a day after they were kicked out, we got banned
I'm glad to see so many videos on this topic, none of these issues existed when I played the game long ago; along with the server management Rare really needs to step it up.
It actually makes me upset to see titles like this. I truly love this game, and its has quickly became my passion over the last few years. Its the only game i have ever been able to play all day every day consistently with no burn out. You are right though, there are GLARING issues that cant just be brushed under the rug. Well say "Nerdy little heart" from the CHEST! This IS an amazing game and I relate to you because I have the same passion, years of playing, barely any to no burn out.. however these days its not as easy to just hit report and move on, that is what people are already doing and it just isn't enough, so the players are doing what they can but it seems like Rare are not offering more where I feel they could. It is far too easy for these bad eggs to be back on the seas, on an alt within an hour harassing more potential children, females, genuine people trying to have fun. I would even bet that some of the hardcore community in PVP would be way more vocal if this continues because when they get pooned and slapped by cheats constantly with cringe insults like everyone else even they will feel lost. It's affecting everybody and I agree, this needs sorting fast.
@@refinedzero i use to love sea until I did the hourglass gamemode. This was 2023. i quit after 4k hours after the misery that was encountering hacker after hacker after hacker on that stupid gamemode.
it was depressing, ive never been able to enjoy the game sense. its just frustrating, even when doing pve and just vibing. and i know a huge group of streamers who feel the same, in 2023 they FESTERED the hourglass gamemode.

I can’t tolerate trying to build a crew on their Discord server. If you put an hour/allegiance requirement and someone doesn’t met it, they will flip, refuse to leave and just act like a child. Mods don’t even ban them now so they just come back eventually.

Having over 3K hours in SOT myself, I have experienced similar players across the seas saying all kinds of slurs and abusive language as this has been a problem for a while. Having taking a break from SOT for a few years not too long after hourglass was introduced, was thinking of coming back to the game, but having seen the huge amount of bugs, exploits and insane of cheaters in the game, I don't intend to play anytime soon unless Rare focuses on fixing the core aspects of the game and sort out the huge influx of cheaters running rampant on the seas
I hope they get it under control and our voices can instigate this faster, hopefully soon you and others will feel happy to return and that will be a great day
i'm kind of glad i've been taking a break from the game. I was overwhelmed with some of the past updates and this would just add to it. i dont hate to say it but i probably wont be back until this gets fixed because i deal with a-holes in real life at my job, i dont want to in a game i used to be able to relax to.

Every time I get into any game it’s immediate toxicity. Not in a oh I’m so sensitive type of toxicity but just straight sickening and is just draining crap. Almost every random either leave as soon as they join, don’t talk, burn my ship, and or troll. Rare is incredibly lazy as a company and hates their players. They’d rather slap a sword skin in rather than go to fix the hacking and constant crashing. Perma bans being given out like candy. PlayStation is still broken and crashes/lags constantly. I will probably drop this game very soon even though I pretty much got it two weeks ago. What a shame.

A lot of people are saying "oh it's not dying you're just being dramatic", and I used to be one of those people too. But if you check steam stats for Sea of Thieves, the game is getting less players now than it did in Season 9, which many people (including myself) consider to be the worst era of Sea of Thieves.
Group posts on Xbox are also less active than in Season 9. These obviously don't represent the majority of the player base, but the only group not mentioned yet is PlayStation players, and their activity on SOT was down 57% by May
As a 15 year old female who plays Sea of Thieves alot I've come across some vile people. Some of these players are just messed up and think its so funny to sexually harass women, especially young women. It's honestly disgusting and really frustrating coming across these people. I shouldn't be scared or nervous to speak when meeting another player, nobody should! I love talking and sailing with other pirates in SoT and ive met some amazing people but these players are ruining it for not just women but for everybody. I'm so glad to see someone addressing this because when i bring it up its passed off as "fun and games'' or that it was ''just a joke'' and i need to ''lighten up''. These are grown adults (atleast the ones ive come across) who have no business in a video game saying these gross threats to anyone. Thank you for the support and i hope this game isnt to far gone because it is one of the best games ive ever played.

I’ve played Sea of Thieves since 2020 with 112 days played- I can honestly say that I’m incredibly lucky not to come across many of these people.
Rare need to step up their game and take these allegations more seriously. I don’t get why people would target a fellow player in such a way. Is it to feel powerful? Sadistic tendencies? I genuinely don’t see what people have to gain by being this toxic.

me and my brother have actually had an encounter with a cheater very recently. We were doing a Skull of Siren Song and suddenly this guy literally spawns on our ship and starts double gunning like crazy. I know he was cheating because after 10 minutes of getting sent to the Ferry of the Damned countless times, we finally killed him only for him to appear on our ship again. After the second kill he didn't appear again, but I immediately reported him for movement exploits. I'm honestly glad I didn't have voice or text chat enabled because I can't Imagine what he might have been saying. After the second kill, I checked the horizon I didn't see ANY ships even within render distance.
Today I was playing with my friend one of them a girl and a guy just spawned starting insulting and harassing her like crazy and spawn camped us until we left, if this doesn’t change community day will be a bloodbath
The problem with rare and their community management is that rare doesn’t care about their community cause as you mentioned sea of thieves is “the open world pirate game”, so no matter how bad the game’s community has gotten it doesn’t really hurt their profits. The only thing that tends to get rare’s attention is when there’s a major controversy (the most recent one being what happened with Theb), and even then they tend to do the bare minimum to deal with it, which in the case of Theb was just to unban him and I think they unbanned Noobface too (I’m not sure about Noobface though) they didn’t do anything beyond that because they didn’t need to, not even an apology to Theb for trying to ruin his entire livelihood.
The problem also is cheaters are boldly disclosing their cheating because they’re just on burner accounts. How is that supposed to be fixed?

As someone who has been blind to this due to me playing on console only servers it disgusts me that this is the current state of the game outside of console servers and that Rare does not seem to care in the slightest about there community
To be perfectly honest, I’ve spent years playing this game and it was a whole lot of fun for meeting the different types of pirates out there but ever since late 2023/2024, it has gotten worse. Rare has been banning every single person that has been saying bad stuff about their game and allow cheaters and hackers into the game with no repercussions and abuse the community. I get that “It’s a pirate game” and so on but that is not the case here. I have left the game entirely (though it makes me sad) because of Rare’s incompetence and the fact that they are trying to silence the community, a game is supposed to be fun and a getaway from realities problems but they just put people that harass you and don’t ban them, that’s when the game needs to be turned off and that’s just the same for Old Bonesy.

if rare would just dedicate the same time and effort to squashing out actual harmful cheaters and harassers as they did to banning a certain content creator who's done so much to help the community actually thrive, this issue would have maybe never become an issue to begin with, it's genuinely just sad how screwed rares priorities are.

I stopped my 10 year old daughter from playing on anything except Safer Seas due to the vulger language she has heard. Rare really needs to step it up here.
The toxicity has gotten worse year over year. Also, having open pvp in a game that has such incredible pve and a rich world is truly awful. Most of my friends are sick of being stuck in hours of pvp when they were just exploring or lootless.
Its not much better on insider. I spawned in and went to my boat. Put down a voyage. And someone camping the outpost kills me before i even leave the dock. This is all within 1 min of loading in the game. I messaged him and said youre the reason people are leaving this game.
It’s unfortunate this is all happening, my thoughts are with everyone affected. This has always been my only gripe with this game, I have played for the first couple years on Xbox then I went to PlayStation and only just recently started again since it’s come to PS. The people are the worst part about this game. If something like safer seas even offered the same opportunities I’d never again touch high seas. On Xbox when the game was still new I had one or two positive encounters and met some good friends, but especially since coming back to PlayStation, all I get is people calling me slurs and getting 5 man ganked by people when I’m by myself. The other people ruin this game. Haven’t had a single positive interaction with anyone since I started playing again. Hopefully something can be done

I left a year ago and I played since week one. I checked it out maybe a month ago and although the new weapons are fun, the game has become a haven for the toxic and the cheaters. None of my original friends I met on the sea are there anymore and I won't play without REAL solo servers. I like PVP too but without solo servers the game will die. If I can play and combat a server of hand picked friends I'll come back but until then I don't want anything to do with it. I also have thousands of hours and fond memories of what used to be...

As a playstation player it hurts me that I get isolated because of the late release of the game on playstation platform and it is very frustrating and stressful to be as good as the other players from Xbox and pc, I try my best but I can't stay 24/7 to play a game but I'm also tired of being rejected because I'm not "Pro Player" , I get it but sometimes someone wants to play and have fun, but it's impossible for me to have friends to play with on SoT, I love this game but I can't play it anymore with a toxic community like this, I do hope things will get better for everyone and especially for the women that didn't deserve those horrible and disgusting insults

What you don’t get is hackers are computer programmers and so is rare. It’s kinda like putting Superman against Superman! The only thing that will work is ethical gamers joining forces to preserve the games integrity.
The unfortunate reality is that Rare doesn't seem to care and is a shady company(?) themselves. I remember last month hearing about Rare targeting a player named theb and there's a clip out there by a developer who actually bans theb while he's fighting off cheaters, and the dev instead calls theb a cheater to justify his ban

I hate cheaters, exploiters and toxic players like these with every part of my body. I agree with the vid. However there is a problem with kill cam. It would allow scouting, inspecting ships, loot on board, etc, which is important in game like this. I don't see it working here.

Gotta love how the dev’s are going the valve route with this. Pretty much ignoring the problem because “hur dur this game is still making millions”, and ignoring the community outrage.
I’ve seen enough evidence to show that rare doesn’t actually care about their community, and personally I won’t be playing nor supporting this greedy company until something is done.

used to love spending an escapist hour in the world, actually had Becalmed played at my Dads funeral.....but not now I choose not to spend my time with cheats and ar5eholes.
This is why I stopped playing, the amount of cheaters was becoming a joke. I came back after i heard about the anti cheat being added and was so excited to return, only to find that nothing has actually changed. I was heading to the burning blade and a guy just kept teleporting onto our ship despite no ships in sight, he also stole the fortune chest from the burning blade before we took over it. and pestered us the entire time in that session, just merging from the floor and attacking and omg. i left SOT again after that I will not return untill rare pull their finger out their arse.
This is the reason i started sea of thieves on console instead of pc.
1 literally no exploiters.

Sea of Thieves is beyond saving. Even if rare gets there ship sorted and fixes the hackers and there blatant favoritism, the game has a well earned reputation as a toxic wasteland full of PVP sweatlords

I've been marked a "comp r-slur" for the past year and a half. The same cheaters every time show up on me and messed with me. All i've noticed since anticheat is their cheats getting better and the devs getting more creative. I uninstalled the game and i haven't played for months now and i don't plan on coming back. Rare doesnt care
I love this game , a lot. But even controller servers are being bombarded by cheaters and major exploiters. There’s several “unsinkable” spots that people park in in hourglass matches. Chronus users every three matches and major bullying when you get sunk they rub it in. I’ve gotten past all this and continued to improve to where I’m at today but this is why player retention is terrible. Absolutely terrible. It’s hard to convince friends it will take time to improve with practice when they get tdm’ed/ sunk repetitively then bullied often for being “trash”

I don't play this game anymore because of the cheating problem. I used to love a couple hours of playing here and there. But, getting cheaters that grief and insult me every time I played was too much of a negative experience for me. Definitely not worth the aggravation.

When i encounter a cheater i immediately switch servers. Loot or emmissary level doesnt matter... i switch servers and dont even get upset about it....

they do already implement hardware and ip bans. the problem is they don't put enough effort into distinguishing who is really cheating and who isn't. i never cheated in this game yet i got redbearded without any "final warning". Their community manager and support teams are simply full of clowns.
For me game died when i received false-positive result after EAC implementation. Permanent ban cos my ISP blocked EAC connection for some time due to some restrictions.
Again, this is why I play with console players only. Xbox pretty much filters out cheaters, and you can report in game chat to MS to remove the players

I play as a female character and we can literally have absolutely nothing on our ship and multiple players target us for absolutely no reason. Weve even had multiple ships at the same time target us when we had just left the dock after selling and sink us when we had nothing for them to collect and its put us in a bad mood for most of the session. And we also have had a few run ins with potential hackers as well that had us questioning things

And yes finally. Users can Mark players as streamers or Female. And then Other Users will see them specially marked so they can teleport over and harrass them.
The fact that it even got to this point is insane. Rare needs to patch the vast majority of this out. Or things will only get worse and the cheats only get better in Rare's continued Absence.
I feel like they are making a new sea of thieves in unreal 5 and allowing this one to slowly fall. But if that's the case it won't work well for them cause then who would buy the second game if they didn't acknowledge the issues of their first game. Or they want to be silent about it for now since they don't have any solution and will announce something when they finally have something. I am just throwing out random thoughts. But I do want this game to succeed I have played it since day 3 or its release and had tons of fun and tons of headache with the game but those memories are still amazing lol.
I face a lot of cheaters in hourglass i feel like its almost every other fight where we are facing somebody who is just “too good” and i have a huge problem believing that many people are, that, good. A kill cam would 100% help solve the issue with the cheaters if we could send that to rare
Oh I wish I could like the comment 10x over, I completely respect people who like myself have put silly hours into the game and learnt how to be better and this means I hesitate to call hacks on just anybody I consider to be good.. this isn't however a coincidence, there is definitely a big problem with cheating and then the problem of harassing and the two are almost married together (I say almost, because there are still those who do not cheat and still harass) I understand we will never truly get rid of that, but where my anger falls is on Rare's shoulders because more can be done and enough isn't being said. @@refinedzero im fairly new to SOT i only started playing this May but i have the skeleton curse already so i play a lot of hourglass in comparison to the time i have spent on this game. Seriously annoying to lose winstreaks to somebody that is cheating, im just glad i dont face any harrassment on top of that because i honestly would probably just stop playing. Seems like the anti cheat isnt really doing its job, because there are so many of them that are just blatantly doing it.
Is anyone else hoping developers start utilizing AI to combat the cheaters.
06:00 exactly this. They have to offer a safe environment to their players no matter what. As an Xbox ambassador i know Xbox takes these things seriously so i believe they should work with them to resolve this asap...

I stand by this message. Things have gotten way out of hand with this game. If they don't do something pretty quick, they're going to lose it all. Bringing out new content can only patch so much. The harpoon gun is surely going to be a game breaker too. They might as well give everyone a batmobile or a spiderman suit too. FIX THE TOXICITY LEVEL AND CHEATING Rare, or else my family and I will find a new sea to sail.
Don't get me wrong harassing and rape lists is totally screwed up and these players should be banned. But I could honestly care less about any other toxicity right now. This game needs to focus on bugs, content, quality of life fixes, and less monetization. This is what is truly killing the game. When I ask any of my friends why they quit this game it will be for one of these reasons. I have never even heard someone say they quit sot because the community is too toxic. It is honestly one of the nicest communities in any online pvp game I have ever played. If you think this game is toxic spend 5 minutes in a rust, csgo, or call of duty server and tell me which game is more toxic, and yet those games are loved by many and are still going very strong to this day. Focusing more on player behavior just means they will focus even less on everything else.
Hardware bans would likely be a great way to get these people out of the game. While yes, there are likely some who will find ways around it, it'll stop a large majority of people. IP bans may stop some, but VPNs are easy to use.
The fact that Rare is not only ignoring but neglecting people with these sort of issues is just baffling. I recall seeing a video regarding the discord conversations you mentioned, and I was disgusted by how they simply didn't seem to care. Now, they are likely the equilivant of a Reddit Mod, but that being the people-facing aspect of the game while the support tickets not solving issues makes for a terrible combination.
I'm pretty new to the game itself overall (under 100h), and I find it a great game. I still need to get over my "fears" with PvP and whatnot, but knowing that there are cheaters and people making comments to women/streamers that get away with it nearly scot-free doesn't make a good impression.
Nice detailed message, I’d like to say welcome to the Sea of Thieves but with everything that’s happening I’m sure it’s not exactly great. There is good people though which thankfully allow good discussion and awareness, it’s just protecting that and not letting this drive people away. You’ll get there with PvP it’s a matter of time and it becomes easier, practice shooting your ships bell whenever you’re sailing with the guns, it’s a little trick I used to do to passively help my aim 😊

Don't be afraid to lose during pvp, and if you encounter a cheater immediately cut your loss and server hop. Never look back.
@@armaximus That's fine with how to deal with one in the moment, but we should also look at how to deal with one in the long run.
i cant even report players and what not properly because the ui on playstation sucks. i remember everyone complain how playstation forced pc players to create an account... i had to create a xbox account to play sea of theives... and you know what their friendslist never works in game, their ui stutters and the report button barely if ever does anything.
Yes kill cam is a great idea that I thought should be in the game for a while.

Im one of the ``sweats`` and today I played with my 2 long time friend we are slowly trying to get better by small inprovments. And when I come from Uni. and want to play just to clear mind and after really hard sesion we get 8 streak in hourglass. 1 of the win was also against the cheater, we win we are so happy, just to get sink by another cheaters witch are ceating 2 in 1 crew. It upset me bc I cant do nothing about it.
Also I have like 1000 h + and competated like 60 % of comanditions
IP bans and hardware bans just don’t work. If you get IP banned you can just unplug and replug in your router and it changes your local ip. Hardware bans can be easily dodge by a slight modification to hardware settings and other things.
It's still better than nothing.
@@augustino7529 not really. Both types of bans have unintended consequences. Since sometimes multiple people can play on the same IP an IP ban would ban everyone not just the cheater. Hardware bans can have similar unintended consequences
I keep trying to get the gold curse but i dont have enough friends to cheese the tall tales and im just not going to do them all 5 times... also the biggest issue is and this is a shocker. Adults are the biggest players and supporters of video games. Wow i know.. its almost like were the ones spending the money. Anyway. This game takes at least 4 hours to feel like youve accomplished anything. Im not just going to hop on for 30 minutes of wave simulator. Lol. Its an all day game. If youre single. No kids no friends or 9 then this game is great for you.
