Any helpful advise for tattoo artist getting back into tattooing. I left the business because where I'm at; people would rather get a cheap and questionable sanitary tattoo than a decent priced sterile tattoo.
Same here! The only good thing for me is someone told me the real artist and now I follow her on Instagram. Steph is so talented and I love her style. ❤❤❤
I remember scrolling through Instagram one day and noticed that a very well known tattoo artist did a tattoo designed made by a not so well known digital artist, and I also noticed that the tattooer did not tag that small artist anywhere on his post, even though he straight up took that digital artist’s design. Copying other people’s original design is bad, but I found it even worse that a tattooer with over 1 million followers on Instagram would take the design and not give credit to a small artist that has less then 25 thousand followers. Smh
I got a commission of a set of characters I made, and when I got them tattooed I told the artist she could draw them in her own style because I know tattooers HATE tattooing other people's art.
It's not that deep champ the customer requested it the artist got paid and put the art on the person. It's not their job to make sure all the art is "ethically" sourced, if someone comes in with a photo of anything and it isn't hate speech theirs no reason to deny it. A tattoo artists job is to tattoo designs the customer desires, if they want an original piece from the artist cool if they want a copypasta of some randos drawing also cool because it's their body and they're gonna get that tattoo from someone eventually because not everyone is a loser obsessed with Twitter nor does every tattoo artist care about the "integrity" of tattoos. It's a picture on your body that's it dude get over it because at the end of the day people will do what they want with their body. If I wanted I could get a sleeve of only stolen tattoos from my friends and guess what NO ONE CAN STOP YOU

Oh so, apprentices must send you original designs or from uncopyrighted sites? It didn't ocurr to me, honestly. I thought it was kind of like here in the music realm with music sheets. As one looks and looks for inspo or drawings that one wants on them, specially on google images, I thought it was pretty common that the tattoo's you see are not necessarily the tattoo artist's desing. I mean, another thing is to go and claim them as yours when they are not, but I thought one would simply put the disclaimers where due when showing your work if the client came with another artist's desing. I understand that it's serious, and that art theft is no good, but it's simply such an everyday thing to just look for things up on the internet and use them as you need. Obvious situations aside (claiming something mine when it isn't), I thought the tattoo world simply wasn't as uptight with this issue, like, an unspoken state of things. People see something they like, that many times you cannot even trace back to the original post, let alone from which country and person; they save it, they print it, they bring it to you, and then they ask you to get it done on them. I'm just surprised about people being so surprised. I mean, most of the time and cases, it's just ignorance, lack of awareness, not malice.
Personally if I like something and I'm confident some one else can do it at the same quality but for a cheaper price because their not famous for their work, I'm gonna go the cheaper route.
The only way anyone can copy a piece is if its put on the Internet. Once its online its open game unfortunately. Long before the internet existed tattooist did quite fine just showing their work in a portfolio which could only be viewed in the tattoo shop. Perhaps to many tattooist rely on the Internet for whatever reason then they actually need to compared to what word of mouth is capable of doing.
What's everyone's take on tattoo artists not giving cred to the photographers or videographers who produced there photorealistic references? I know some are changing light sources or turning them into neo traditional women and animals and such but these photos are also not the tattoo artists original work a lot of the time and a lot of people are just copying and pasting these designs. Should this considered taboo as well?
The amount of art theft apologists here in the comments is staggering to me. Just because "it's not an original idea" doesn't mean THAT PARTICULAR custom made drawing of a subject isn't unique and shouldn't be copied 1 on 1, I don't know why that's so hard to understand for some smooth brains.

Hey guys. Im here to say its ok to steal art designs. Its a big yes yes for me.
Personally if I like something and I'm confident some one else can do it at the same quality but for a cheaper price because their not famous for their work, I'm gonna go the cheaper route.
The teeth on that gengar looked rough to me. the whites were abit lifty? what is that term. it didnt look like it would age well.
Cupid looks like Artie Ziff. Still works.
Yup, I seen my "original" I got in NC on a dude that got his in Chicago. LOL
That's haunter..the 2nd evolution before gengar and
What's everyone's take on tattoo artists not giving cred to the photographers or videographers who produced there photorealistic references? I know some are changing light sources or turning them into neo traditional women and animals and such but these photos are also not the tattoo artists original work a lot of the time and a lot of people are just copying and pasting these designs. Should this considered taboo as well?
The amount of art theft apologists here in the comments is staggering to me. Just because "it's not an original idea" doesn't mean THAT PARTICULAR custom made drawing of a subject isn't unique and shouldn't be copied 1 on 1, I don't know why that's so hard to understand for some smooth brains.
i think the cupid was supposed to be missing the string
That panther looked like it had 2 tails... lol
I like this hair instead of a dark blob smear like most artist do for hair.
Tell me you’ve never touched a can without telling my you’ve never touched a can.

I don't even care about Pokémon and bro's making me want to get a Dengar tat
Nobody else notice that panther has 2 tails??
Sheep made Haunter and Gengar. Haunter is the pre-evolution of Gengar.
