      Brian's strategy is both extremely precise and dangerous. Had Mr. Freeze not played exactly the way he did, he would have lost. I think Brian beats Jan, but loses to Ted. I think it's a tossup against Helen, but I would guess he loses.

    Brian really was a skater, because he was on real thin ice and really cut it close.
    His entire game rested on a single plan: Take Clay to the end and get four votes over him.
    It all went to plan, but the tolerances in his plan were extremely tight and he had no backup options.
    I think this is what makes Brian's game so interesting, because unlike other players who had a general game plan but continued to make decisions late in the game, Brian plotted his one path to the end and ran it through point to point. It was a very good plan, but he left himself zero wiggle room. The amount of confidence inherent to that plan is staggering.
    I like that Brian essentially had to work extra hard to overcome the disadvantage of being a psychopath. It's something that might make him a weaker player but it makes him a more interesting character.

    • @eliwhite5548
      @eliwhite5548 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think Brian needed to take Clay to the end. He probably wasn't against Ted. And he has a 50/50 shot against Jan or Helen. The only reason the FTC was so close is because he turned on his allies to get Clay to the end. If he told Ted and Helen it was going to be them, they probably vote for him. 😊

      He’s got a pretty bad social game imo. He seemed like a robot who didn’t give a shit about his wife when the family visit happened which really makes him hard to relate to for the other contestants who are obviously ecstatic to see their family members. He also couldn’t name anyone’s kids or spouses names at final tribal council when asked.
      He’s like the anti-Natalie White. Great strategic control of the game and deciding who goes home, but really weak interpersonal relationships which nearly cost him the game.
      For that reason, he’s a bottom tier winner for me

      @davidm9026 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Natalie had a bad edit that didn’t show her social game. If it just that people hated Russell, Mick would have gotten at least 1 vote. Natalie has a postgame interview where she talks about how she was always chatting with people, just getting to know them and taking an active interest in their lives. If she got a final tribal question like the one Penny (I think) asked Brian or Michaela asked Brad Culpepper where they ask if the finalist can name any of their family members or anything about them, Natalie would have passed with flying colours. She knew everyone’s kids names, spouses names, occupations, hometowns etc.

    Brian really played everyone, but that's probably cause he had both the future 'shield' strategy working with him alongside the goat strategy. Clay was both, disliked by everyone so everyone always cast their negative feelings towards him, cause group think starts to get to everyone, instead of to the real snake in the grass. So he sort of pioneered the shield strat, to a small extent, but he definetly knew Clay was an easy win, so he gets credit for pioneering the goat strat.
    And yes.... Helens husband was very smart for being in the game for less than a day, lol.
    But Russel will forever be the best goat, alongside being one of themost infamous and one of the best idol trackers, he was also the greatest goat. Totally unaware he was the goat and felt he was in control..... twice. But that's the thing he was so unlikable everyone saw him as an easy win, because he could never understand that deserving it, is not enough when you are so unlikable..... and not even subtle or humble. Most smart manipulative players don't call everyone idiots or treat them badly. So in the end people did what he said cause it inflated his ego and made him both a shield an goat. But mostly a goat, so he lost twice in a row simply cause he made no friends and made his good moves moot and unrespectable.
    The goat strat also basically forced the final three ending. So the strat changed the game, just because they realized that oneperson who played and another didn't or was disliked was boring, so add a third gear in there, cause taking two goats is way harder than one.

      Sarah Parker Ehh you’re right. My memory on that season isn’t great since it’s been years since I watched it. I was referencing when Rob chose to get rid of Heidi at F5 instead of Jenna because he perceived her to be more of a challenge threat. Jenna had won 2 immunities already at that point but she was so sulky and claiming she wanted to quit that they kept her. And unless you’re going to claim that her threats to quit we’re all just a part of her strategy (I strongly believe they weren’t) then it’s not really strategic brilliance which kept her in the game, but just the fact that she was emotionally weak

      Once Upon An Island this is true. I always feel that as long as you’re not a complete goat, like for example Philip, it all depends on how articulate you are in convincing your jury to vote for you. I feel that Kelly could have beaten Rich if she was a better public speaker.

      @@OnceUponAnIsland Mhmm she could of atleast acted like she was loyal to sue even tho sue was not loyal. and lets be honest production def had some kind of tie breaker they didnt tell us about. There is no way in hell they would just let the votes keep getting tied over and over. And maybe sue could beat rich and if kelly wins final immunity she votes Rudy out and easily crushes Sue 5-2 and possibly even more if Rich respects her.

    It's interesting because you make it sound like Clay losing was a foregone conclusion when it wasn't. Brian won 4-3. I don't know how you can call Clay the goat when he was one vote away from winning.
    You mention Clay's issues with the game but you didn't mention Brian's, where almost all of Sook Jai slammed Brian for the issues he had relating to them whereas they praise Clay for connecting to them. He also had to contend with Brian making him seem lazy by doing his work and spreading rumors he was racist against Ted.
    Clay's game clearly had problems and I'm not discrediting that. Brian likely did drag Clay to the end thinking he'd be easy to win against, but he wasn't. Calling him the first goat seems like a stretch, I'd give that title to Matt in Amazon or Lill in Pearl Islands as both were drawing dead prior to the finale.

      Bailey Vogt Yeah I think Jake and Teds votes were more up in the air tbh. They both have talked about it post season that they felt very betrayed by Brian and could have gone either way so I don’t think Brian had the game on lock, which is why I’ll never consider him in the highest tier of winners

    • @PatkaBoy831

      Brian only needed four votes. He got them. He had the game wrapped up before the merge.

    • @jacobknepp2925
      @jacobknepp2925 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      O'Haire that is not true both Ted and Jake were on the fence and have confirmed this post season. Brian did not have all of the votes locked, and Clay very easily could’ve slipped past Brian. Brian played well but he really should tried to build bonds with the Sok Jai members because he was in legitimate danger of not beating Clay. He would’ve gotten destroyed by Jan or Helen, so he was definitely not walking away with the win from merge on.

      I do have a 46 minute video that dives deep into Brian's game and all of his flaws. But Clay was a goat. There wasn't anyone he could beat out of that final 5. He was the most disagreeable player and Brian dragged him to the end.

    I think you are giving Brian too much credit here. No one on the jury really like Brian, they just happened to hate Clay more. Brian only is able to win against Clay. He did a good job of ensuring he gets to the end with who he needs to get to the end with, but his jury management was pretty awful and he was in reasonable danger of losing to Clay, and would’ve lost to anyone else.

    • @OnceUponAnIsland
      @OnceUponAnIsland  4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yes, the entire point of the goat strategy is to bring someone to the end who is more disagreeable than yourself. Brian brought Clay to the end knowing Chuay Gahn did not like him at all, which is why Clay gets none of their votes. Brian was disliked, but Clay was disliked more. As Ted calls it "The lesser of two evils."
