  • Hello friends! In today's video, I wanted to show you the highly requested process of how to make the waist on jeans bigger but with jean material! I've done similar processes to this before with a canvas material and with elastic, so I will link those below. I really hope you enjoy this video. If so, don't forget to give it a like, comment, and share!

Enjoy watching. You make these teckniques look easy. I'm getting back into sewing after 50+ years. I have been looking for the original, sturdy, strong Levi type jean material. Would you know anything about hard to find fabrics? Thank you.

@@DowntownTailoring I kinda thought that I have my brother-in-law's pants taken apart (he is so picky) LOL I know he will love this fix. just waiting to fix them This is exactly what I wanted. He also wants me to patch the knee's I have that done by your instructions, THEN he wanted me to cut off a pocket from the back of the jeans and stitch it to the left leg top 12.5 inches from the bottom of the waistband (EXACTLY LOL) to keep his cigarettes and a small bible in. I also got that done, I even made the pocket 2 pockets leaving the back part of the pants and just putting a hem in that one. I wish I had of seen the zipper pocket before I did that I would have been so easy to make the back part of the pocket a zipper one. I hope you understand what I mean about adding the pocket to the front of the leg, he can even put his phone in it without having to put it in his back pocket and maybe losing it.
The patching went amazing you can hardly even tell they were patched and it was both knees and huge and had been washed many times so really frayed.
I enjoy your channel so much I am 66 and I have learned more from you in the past 2 years than I have figured out over my lifetime of alterations. I do it for family and friends mostly. I worked for a short time at a Sporting Goods Store about 20+ years ago but then my teenage daughter got Epilepsy so I did not work anymore after that I stayed home. My most enjoyable time of working was to make LARGER kids uniform shirts and pants so they would be like everyone else. My boss would order the fabric from the company(where they ordered the other jerseys) the companies did not offer larger kid sizes and I would take a shirt and pants from the child and cut my own pattern his/her size they were used to just having a Tshirt with a number heated on it. I was so proud when I saw them in the jersey and pants/shorts for basketball.
SO again I thank you for sharing all your knowledge you and your daughter are amazing. Blessings to you both.

When you created the second gusset you said that the first calculation was good if you didn’t have to cut the waist band. Don’t you always have to cut it?. In wish case you don’t have to cut it?

Hi may I know what are the 2 presser foot that you used ? Because my sewing machine is Singer heavy duty 4423 . Actually I have that one that you used for sewing the denim jeans but it doesn’t match to my sewing machine because the needle catch the presser foot ? Waiting for your reply your new viewer from Scotland . More power to your sewing video specially for alteration . 👍🫶

      Hi! Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦
You can change the position of the needle from the center to the left or right to avoid this problem. There's a bottom at the top that will allow you to make this adjustment. Cheers!

I really like your method in one of your earlier videos th-cam.com/video/f5vSCbEK2DY/w-d-xo.html where you cut the waistband in the center back. I would combine the 2 methods by adding jean material on the sides as you do here, and then to the waistband in the back.
