You know, this reminds me the day my MOM died. She asked if I was coming over because I haven't seen her in a month or 2. And finally, when I got to go over and see her, she was her normal self. It was late, we talked for a little before going to bed. She told me she loved me. The next day she was gone like that. No goodbyes. So this title and music hit me hard as if it was written by her
The sentimental thing about this song is that you sort of get connected to MOM, and you enter a conversation with her, but you slowly realize it's just a pre-programmed machine, and has no feelings for anything.
Less than 2 months and we'll be back, for the last time. This game is way more than just a game for me. Love the fact that 2D Boy's second and final project is the sequel to WoG, and scared of the fact that this once in a lifetime experience is so close. I'm probably never getting *that* excited over a game after that point.
This song really gives a “I must love, yet I cannot” vibe to it. It’s almost as if someone was capable of loving, yet lost the ability to feel compassion due to medical trauma, and longs for it. As the song progresses, they are taken back to their past memories and moments filled with empathy. They can vividly remember saying goodnight to their child and every day they were filled with joy. The pauses with piano and the slow buildup towards the beat feel like they are so close to feeling something, and they got oh so close, but no matter how hard they tried, they were incapable of feeling and gave up, accepting their fate as a hollow husk of which once was filled with life and raw feeling. can’t stop listening (this was written at like 1:00am so don’t judge)
MOM would be the smartest being in existence, If her thoughts weren't clouded by cookies and ads. But she's also lonely. Do you think anyone replies to spam mail?
MOM is not alive, as she is only written with LOVE. But I am curious as to what happened to her after chapter 4 ended. If you return to "MOM's computer" all you see is a window that tells you "MOM has gone away." Did she leave for a reason? Or was she destroyed along with World of Goo Corporation?
The choir Melody played in Burning Man was always my favorite time in this game as a kid (and still is) because the minor key and sorrowful harmonies always stuck out to me. I love hearing these kinds of harmonies in music, always have. It's really nice being able to hear this tune's reprise. The singing in Burning Man reminds me of the factory workers finding music and song as their only hope in the factories, and that sort of carries over here- only it's MOM waiting patiently for her child to finally come home. She was always there, watching, waiting. Hoping you'd read her messages. She was there from the beginning of the game. And now it's like you really are finally coming home. Except now, you have to leave again, never to return. Aahhh, such a good track!
There's something very tragic about MOM. She's essentially been left to rot after the Information Superhighway was abandoned, and all she does now is send people letters so they would come back. And if you come back to the level after completing it, you see a message that says "MOM has gone away" signifying that she finally gave in to the many years of abandonment. Great, now I can't look at MOM without thinking about Bing Bong
You don’t get MOM has gone away till you beat deliverance, if you play it again before that you can still talk to MOM. The MOM has gone away notice is likely due to wogcorp’s destruction deactivating the ISH
I used to listen to thing during summer school when I was slacking one year and got caught having youtube open but this song brings me back to those days and I’ve never played the game.
Oh my... this game means so much to me and no matter how many years will pass it will always hold a special place in my heart... And for some reason it always seemed so sad but at the same time it felt - especially at the end - like smiling through sorrow. Some things I feel through this game and its' music can't be described...
There's something about this track that always sounded incredibly _fragile_ to me. Like everything could just fall apart in an instant, and there's nothing you can do.
Y'know. M9m was one of the few established characters in WoG, and one of the only ones you feel connected to in a way. Abd just as quickly as you meet her, yoh say goodbye. And this song perfectly captures that feeling. Masterpiece
...then she takes all of his renaissance paintings, all of the beautiful colors and brilliant shapes and detailed characters that had wallpapered his room. She takes the Brueghels and the Teniers and the van Kessels and the Cranachs, she takes them all, dozens of works, hundreds of years old, she throws these renaissance paintings in a pile in the forest and she sets them on fire.
I’ve been listening to the World of Goo soundtrack after playing 2 and I think I finally understand why this track is a reprise of Burning Man. In Burning Man in order to get to the pipe, we have to set fire to the match goo balls. And as a result we inadvertently kill the “Man”. In Are You Coming Home, Love MOM, MOM is the Man. To free ourselves from the 3rd dimension, we have to destroy the Information Superhighway, sacrificing MOM in the process.

I don’t know why, but the title mixed with this song makes me wanna cry. It’s like a promise you wanted to keep but you were never able to fulfill MOM’s wishes for you to come back home. That’s just my interpretation of it though. This song is still so beautiful. 🥺💕
After all of this, I finally end all of the strange world, it went back to normal, but now look at this world, it’s all mess up now, so now I just walk and keep looking around the world, I thank mom computer, she has taught how to use that strange power, her final words were “you will be the strongest man, and remember this, your mom will always love you”
