What are you going on about? "To die for" literally means incredibly good and sought-after. This is not a subjective statement, the rear of the Vantage with the acid green diffuser and sleek tail light is sublime.
This was my favorite of the Vantage reviews that dropped recently. Matt's reviews have really improved and I'm now genuinely excited to see new videos posted by Autocar. Keep it up!
As much as the front end doesn't look like a convential Aston design, I think it works very well with the overall lines and makes a total knockout design
I like the exterior and interior. Yes, it does remind me of the MX5, but it looks stunning, and the AMG engine is more sophisticated than Aston's engine. To those who say it looks too radical for an Aston, you have to remember what the DB5 was when it was new, which was considered futuristic for its time. Also, the claim that the engine is not Aston enough is ridiculous. The engine of the DB5, for instance, is completely diff from the DB9, but that doesnt mean the DB9's engine is not Aston enough.
They finally made an Aston Martin that looks like it belongs in the 21st century. Probably the best looking new Aston Martin to date. And I like how they made tha vantage an actual sports car and differenciated it from the db11, since the last vantage came off as the aston you'd buy if you didn't have enough money for a db9/dbs.
geekf1 exactly, he actually sounds like a proper petrolhead now, not some random journalist that has seem like he has no interest in cars and is just doing it for some money, u can see that he has passion in cars now! Which is a good thing haha
A True British Sports Car ! The cows that gave you that fine leather for the stitching were all British, the CEO is British, only the engine is German.
Digital Car Addict how is that miata headlights??? These are round. Miata lights are pointy. Completly different. I don't necessarily like the lights but they don't look like a miata.
I will never understand why they launched the new vantage in that lime green/yellow color... does not look good and very few customers will spec it like that... the black car driven later in the video looks much better
The commonality is the engine and the electronics. The transmission and differential are different (ZF and Graziano) and there are many other things such as the seats that are Aston Martin. Aston Martin does make some very good seats (I know it seems odd to rave about seats but they've won awards and actually sell to other manufacturers. And styling is a big difference
Malteser3535 The GT is geared to the sport end of the spectrum a bit more than the Aston. The AMG GT has a proper dual clutch transmission while the aston has an automatic. The AMG also has a better rear biased weight distribution at 54% rear 46% front while the Aston is 50/50. The 54/46 ratio is better for track driving as it gives more grip to a rear wheel drive car and helps with heavy braking. From reviews it looks like the AMG suspension is tuned firmer also.
Malteser3535 Dynamically the differences are the transmission (7 speed DCT in the GT, 8 speed ZF in the Vantage), weight distribution (50/50 in the Vantage), and lastly overall weight (the Vantage is around 200-300lbs lighter than the GT depending on spec of the cars).
*This engine has very low amount of progression in pitch.* The sound just gets louder with some pops, but the pitch barely even moves upward. I don't get what people mean when they say it sounds good? Its not motivating at all...Flat crank v8 and NA v8 sound so much better. There are some decent application of this engine but mostly due to exhaust systems rather than the engine itself.
ZDY it sounds good for a turbo. Obviously na would sound better but this is the only way to still be as good sounding as possible as they head to turbo engines.
I honestly didn't really dig the design too much at first ditto with the DB11, but as time goes by it grows massively on you similarly to when the new R8 came out.
The sound reminds me of *farming tractors* from developing countries...507 edition was the only decent sounding Benz v8 in the past few years. Some applications of this engine still sound decent but due to exhaust.
Eventus Vantos I disagree, I drove the 570S, sounded pretty average or below average, but better than this. I drove the 4C , sounds miles better in pitch despite being a whatever 1 point Something litre 4 banger. I drove the 911 twin turbo set up, sounds neutered compared to before but still way better than this. So not only does this set up sound bad in comparison to other set up, it also sounds bad within its v8 twin turbo segment. It sounds like an Asian farm tractor. I'm not sure if the AMG engine is flat planed, but for this price tag they could easily make it flat planed even if it isn't. But obviously even if the engine isn't flat plane, they won't change it for cost saving reasons.
ZDY 570s sounds like a vacuum cleaner. And 4c is a mess. Amg make the best sounding turbos in the business... this aston has been tuned by them so it doesn't fully capture the sound of an amg turbo engine. Look at supercars of London c63...... Especially after adding an exhaust... It s so good that if no body told you... You wouldn't think of it being a turbo charged engine yet it is and yet it sounds absolutely amazing. Listen to this and tell me it doesn't sound good.... You could easily consider this to be a na car if you didn't know. th-cam.com/video/Q7qmNVwaSS8/w-d-xo.html
Eventus Vantos okay but thats not comparing stock 😂. And yes i agree those two cars don't sound good, but after driving both at the, ironically, aston martin dealership in town, they don't sound nearly as bad as I thought, although still pretty bad...But even making mental adjustment to the sound that is recorded by the mix in this video, it sounds extremely mediocre. Also his C63 just farts and pops none stop. I think Porsche pop on over run makes sense but his is just way too damn excessive. It's popping when he's on the throttle even and just everywhere. The pitch however is improved, but the problem isnt the sound, it's the progression OF that sound. Even with the exhaust, the PITCH did not PROGRESS as much. Although the over all PITCH did Increase in comparison to stock. But that's not an excuse to hide progression. The only turbo engine that I hear progression in pitch are the new 911s. Even then, they lost that last 30% of their pitch and howl compared to before. :( I hate turbos. In my area teenagers love turbos and twin turbos. Because on paper they have bragging rights, but none of them know what cars are really about. It's not as always about performance, it's about soul and a connection (and yes, often analog or non digital cars provide that connection much easier)
I'm glad it's good - it kind of needed to be for Aston's sake - but I'm still not sure about the front styling. That road car bright yellow highlighting (especially on the rear diffuser) wasn't doing it any favors either. I'm happy that Aston is getting quality engines that it doesn't need to fund development of itself yet manages to still make a product that feels properly bespoke and in keeping with its heritage. I'd imagine the days of TVR and other companies of that scale being able to design their own powerplants might be at an end... When I saw the intro I hoped it was Mr Prior doing the review and I wasn't disappointed - thoroughly enjoyable video :)
I would love and gladly pay to go to a museum that had car chassis and similar things like the vantage shown here. I know at some auto shows I've been to they have things for brakes and stock/3rd party performance cutouts & fairly sure I've seen footage at some larger car shows. Idk what companies do with prototypes they need to crash for safety regs but if they would bring back parts/sections of the uncrashed portions into showrooms and do the same with what we see from the vantage chassis I'd go to the dealer just for that.
Sounds like a great car. Not one of Matts best reviews. He’s class but this time a bit waffly and repetitive. Too soon at this point but would love to see a special edition of this Vantage and even more so a Lagonda special, delicious.
Weirdly I like the looks of it better than the DB11. I guess I'd have to A/B them to know exactly why, but I dislike the looks of the DB11. I don't see myself ever owning an Aston but I like that they exist in the world.
It looks great.... some are moaning about the diffusers and aggressive touches to the exterior, but if you want something a bit more svelte, and are born in 1905, the less offensive styling of the the DB11 is the one to go for. The interior though.... oh dear.
opmoa amg build the best sounding turbo engines in the business. Period. If this car was na then yah Aston should have built it but for turbo they should leave in the hand of the best. It hasn't lost the Aston sound. Its maintained a growly gorgeous sound which would otherwise be compromised going turbo.
Totally Agree! Older Aston Martin Cars had a better sound! The best sounds were coming from One-77 and Vantage GT12! AMG is doing good engines too but the sound is terrible! Never liked this Burp Fart Merceydeez sounds...
Kevin Koeberling you're an utter moron. You can't compare the old cars to these on noise alone... Because the old aston's were naturally aspirated so they obviously sound better. But as emission regulations tighten up companies are forced to downsize and go turbo...and so Aston turned to the best sounding turbo engine builders in the business, amg. Amg are able to keep the v8 alive and still sound good. They make the best sounding turbo engines in the business. You're deaf if you think this is terrible. Its not farting. They are called crackles and they are awesome. They give the car a lot of character and add to the cars persona and drama. Amg turbo engines sound so good. . especially with an aftermarket exhaust.. So much so that you wouldn't even know they're turbo charged without knowing otherwise or being told. Just take a listen to this beast c63: th-cam.com/video/Q7qmNVwaSS8/w-d-xo.html
Aston Martin, IMHO, is progressing on a dangerously slippery slope. The performance is starting to take precidence over what all Astons have traditionally been...drop-dead beautiful looks. I've always said that for the money, I would take the "slower" Aston DB series and V12's over the "faster" cars, simply because, until now, Astons are just rolling kenetic high-art. I don't care about being 1.2 seconds faster to 60, I don't care about "only" topping out at 203. But now, I feel, Aston Martin's newest design team is starting to drop the ball. Yes, almost all Astons of the early '00's sort of looked the same, but then, that was the point...they were beautiful to begin with! I think this one is rather ugly. Faster? Harder-cornering? Perhaps. But I'd trade it.
You all have the longest video of all the channels that I'm subscribed to..... that's a BIG deal because I can ATLEAST eat a bowl of cereal while watching..............with time to spare HA!
I'm a bit confused. You say that the fact that you can have a conversation comparing this new Vantage to the 911GTS is a testament to just how far Aston Martin has come. Well it should be an OUTSTANDING car for 120,000 BPS! And according to your own website the 911GTS is 75,000 BPS. So if I'm hearing right, you can confidently say that a 125,000 Aston is competing with a car 50,000 pounds cheaper? And you expect people looking for cars in this wide margin are going to go for the Aston if it's only as good as a 911?
By the way, the engine is not the howling V8 or V12 it used to be. Please Aston, make it right again. The engine is a big part of the character of the car, and if I wanted to hear an AMG engine I'd watch videos about AMG's. But I don't. I wanted to watch (and listen) to an Aston.
Not a huge fan of the new Astons. I think Aston peaked at the Virage/DB9 (facelifted). The One-77 was also really nice but it felt a bit too aggressive. The new Vanquish has a weird integrated spoiler that ruined it for me.
The body shape is great, but the headlights are way to small! It’s the same problem as the gran turismo has. In my opinion they should be twice as big as they are.
Something not quite right with the styling, like a stretched mx-5 as others have pointed out. Sounds too much like a yobby AMG engine, not a particularly tuneful sound, just loud. Not as classy as the last gen car. Nice to see that their infotainment system is controlled via physical buttons though, touchscreens are not the best option when driving and they can be quite a stretch in some cars
Personally I’m a fan of the looks, the only thing agents it in my opinion is that it has the wrong “Hart” a clinical German unit with a sound engineered exhaust has will never be a match for an old school brute force N/A Aston lump
That rear end is to die for. Great presenting, well done Autocar.
TotallyNotTishue The Aston isn't too bad either.
What are you going on about? "To die for" literally means incredibly good and sought-after. This is not a subjective statement, the rear of the Vantage with the acid green diffuser and sleek tail light is sublime.
Datass
Only Kylies rear end is to die for?!!
This was my favorite of the Vantage reviews that dropped recently. Matt's reviews have really improved and I'm now genuinely excited to see new videos posted by Autocar. Keep it up!
As much as the front end doesn't look like a convential Aston design, I think it works very well with the overall lines and makes a total knockout design
one of the most well made 15 minutes of car watching ive seen in quite awhile great job
I like the exterior and interior. Yes, it does remind me of the MX5, but it looks stunning, and the AMG engine is more sophisticated than Aston's engine. Mat is improving so much!... He reviews r so much more engaging nowadays!
matt FTW
Agreed. I remember the very first ones. He was just too serious, too formal.
geekf1 exactly, he actually sounds like a proper petrolhead now, not some random journalist that has seem like he has no interest in cars and is just doing it for some money, u can see that he has passion in cars now! Which is a good thing haha
Bring back Steve sutcliffe
Totally agree. I used to watch despite him but now I think he’s got the balance about right.
I love the technical terms in this vid: squishily, GTness, etc
A True British Sports Car ! The cows that gave you that fine leather for the stitching were all British, the CEO is British, only the engine is German.
Portugal is now the hot spot for testing new cars!
Miguel Vasconcelos and Nürburgring is the hotspot for developing new sport cars...
Crafty amazing and Aston's design never gets old
This is the best review I've seen, for what it is to me the best car in the world.
Love the details we learn about this car and it's construction.
Matt Prior describing Matt Beckers wonderful chassis work is a treat too!
Great content as usual. You guys are the best car reviewers on TH-cam now. Also the first review to appear to in my subscriptions
The sound is freaking beautiful
Exceptionally beautiful. I'd pay for the looks alone.
Not a fan of the miata headlights. The rest of the car is amazing
Digital Car Addict how is that miata headlights??? These are round. Miata lights are pointy. Completly different. I don't necessarily like the lights but they don't look like a miata.
Somehow I like that it looks like you would imagine if the Flyin Miata V8 got a bespoke wide body kit that reflects it's muscle.
last gen miata, not current
Digital Car Addict yep, completely agree. Looks a bit downmarket
The front indeed looks a bit like a beefed up Miata. But I like this better than the previous Ford Fusion/Mondeo style.
Nice work. Enjoyed the cutaway.
I will never understand why they launched the new vantage in that lime green/yellow color... does not look good and very few customers will spec it like that... the black car driven later in the video looks much better
Jonathan Hendricks Agree, such a horrible colour it doesn't do the car justice.
I hate florescent colors on cars except for the Lamborghini Aventador orange.
Nick Parker Yeh only certain car's get away with bright colours, Aston Martin certainly don't fit that.....
Craig Heslop Agree!
Nick Parker I remember an Aston in like a baby blue colour which was quite striking but maybe that's as far as they should go.
So, what is the difference between this and the AMG GT other than styling? Same engine, same trans-axle, same diff...
Malteser3535 custom interior colours!!! And way more paint options. That's up to you though if it's worth like 10-50k more
Malteser3535 chasis, interior, handling, comfort, materials, larger cololumn mounted paddles etc etc
The commonality is the engine and the electronics. The transmission and differential are different (ZF and Graziano) and there are many other things such as the seats that are Aston Martin. Aston Martin does make some very good seats (I know it seems odd to rave about seats but they've won awards and actually sell to other manufacturers.

Eventus Vantos I hate turbos :( but NA engines are just not longed for this world :( good thing I bought mine before they died.
ZDY na will always have a place in my heart but turbos are the future.
Eventus Vantos Na will also always be in my heart, but also in my garage 😋
The Aston that took my heart and hasn't given it back since..
Aston Martin is just the king of manly elegance...😎
Awesome! Great job on the review and keep it up...best on TH-cam by a mile...or Kilometre.
Where's Sutcliffe?
ukbondraider He's gone to EVO as far as I know. Musical chairs! 🙄
That alcantara on the dash looks like something somebody had reupholstered at a body shop.
I honestly didn't really dig the design too much at first ditto with the DB11, but as time goes by it grows massively on you similarly to when the new R8 came out.
Fantastic review!! Ive owned the V8 and V12 of the last ten and this one looks as the Brits say “MEGA”
Great informative review, and driving.
The sound reminds me of *farming tractors* from developing countries...507 edition was the only decent sounding Benz v8 in the past few years. Some applications of this engine still sound decent but due to exhaust.
Do you know what literally means?
ZDY modern amgs also sound good. Just in a different way. They are the best sounding turbos in the business for crying out loud.
Eventus Vantos I disagree, I drove the 570S, sounded pretty average or below average, but better than this. LCTRgames the fluro diffuser looks like some chinese kid vinyl wrapped it,ricer style
Didn’t like the looks of this when it came out at all but iT’s starting to grow on me
I would love and gladly pay to go to a museum that had car chassis and similar things like the vantage shown here. i would be genuinely curious to see how this car does against a panamera turbo or turbo s on track. just to see how good the porsche is.
that transition at 0:28 is violent...
It looks great.... some are moaning about the diffusers and aggressive touches to the exterior, but if you want something a bit more svelte, and are born in 1905, the less offensive styling of the the DB11 is the one to go for. The interior though.... oh dear.
Vibes of a less flashy lamborghini more elegant huracan. Wonder how much they would safely tune up to with an ecu tune.
what an upgrade!
Man i love your videos Autocar but who is color correcting and editing your videos? I am for hire ! lol 😉
On what model did Aston Martin make the engine?
Vantage or F type SVR?
Yes but can you spec a manual?
I do like the new Vantage... Uniquely AM!
Love the video! The car looks really nice in black. But I agree with the others, in green it looks like an Mx-5(Miata).
They lost that Aston sound... AMG engines are great and i like the sound of them but not for an aston martin... and looks a little vulgar
opmoa weirdly though the db11 having the same engine, sounds more like an aston than this car
Ford is better than mercedes?! lol
opmoa amg build the best sounding turbo engines in the business. Period. If this car was na then yah Aston should have built it but for turbo they should leave in the hand of the best. Just take a listen to this beast c63:
th-cam.com/video/Q7qmNVwaSS8/w-d-xo.html
The Audi A2 was nice and narrow, wasn't that all aluminium ?
I’d buy a jaguar f type r RWD for about half the money and sound much better
emil klotz the f-type is awesome but the performance does not compare. Also the luxury doesn’t compare either the Aston is definitely more luxurious
And looks far better, mind you that would not be hard.
But you get an aston
Aston Martin, IMHO, is progressing on a dangerously slippery slope. The performance is starting to take precidence over what all Astons have traditionally been...drop-dead beautiful looks. I've always said that for the money, I would take the "slower" Aston DB series and V12's over the "faster" cars, simply because, until now, Astons are just rolling kenetic high-art. I'm a bit confused. You say that the fact that you can have a conversation comparing this new Vantage to the 911GTS is a testament to just how far Aston Martin has come. A stunning looking car.
Looks awesome well done Aston martin
By the way, the engine is not the howling V8 or V12 it used to be. Please Aston, make it right again. The engine is a big part of the character of the car, and if I wanted to hear an AMG engine I'd watch videos about AMG's. But I don't. I wanted to watch (and listen) to an Aston.
this car looks perfect
Awesome car !!
Name of the song in the start?
Didn't have the deep throaty sound of a proper Aston unfortunately, but looks very nice in the black not garish yellow.....
I like the car expect for the unibrow rearlight
10:50 - Same rolling shot as Mr JWW - How come?
AP MHIYT using Aston Martin pre-recorded b-roll. Quick and easy way to get the shots when you don’t get much time with the car
Lovecars Aah right, no wonder. Thanks!
Love everything about this except those darn headlights! They look like a Miata’s ... at best! What were the designers thinking.
Only produces the power of an Alfa Giulia? Seems a bit low
I am not seeing Autocar reviews nowadays because of this guy, came only to post comment
Traditional torque converter auto is "more refined" than a twin clutch? Don't know about that...
Of course it is, they always are.
Anyone know the name of the song at the start? Thx
This guys pretty good but Steve S is my favorite in all of TH-cam
This car looks so much better in a dark colour.
No more v12 vantage?.
Better hit the number tonight so I can get one of the few v12s 6 speed manuals still avail.
Pete grimes I think there is no V12 vantage, maybe because V12 is more relevant to DB11 rather than than this vantage.
introduction music name anyone?
kaicos just been scrolling the comments myself to see if anyone has said haha.
Oooh I like it in black!
Beast!
Now an AMG vantage?! Bring back the V12 vantage
Not a massive fan of the colour I don't think it suits the car, don't like the Mazda mx5 headlights either, sounds epic though !
Gorgeous but it becomes an unauthentic Aston Martin when it out sourced its engine
The old Vantage had a variant of the Jaguar AjV8 engine.
Bong Lim 100% agree. I'd rather a Mercedes AMG GT-R and get the real McCoy
They never really had their own engine
At least they are getting a reliable and let's not forget it's a hand built engine.
On what model did Aston Martin make the engine?
Looks really amazing, much better than Mercedes
Personally I’m a fan of the looks, the only thing agents it in my opinion is that it has the wrong “Hart” a clinical German unit with a sound engineered exhaust has will never be a match for an old school brute force N/A Aston lump
So it's basically a Mercedes AMG GT R now?
Nice car. Too bad that there's really nothing separating it from the competition. Except the badge, I guess.
Any manual option down the line?
1seipai supposedly in a year or 2 but that center console doesn't look like it will accommodate it.
Necrosis3 Yes that's exactly what I was thinking. The controls for the sat nav etcetera are in the way.
1seipai It's comming in about a dear or so. Thry confirmed it.
iLibertyWalkedMyFoot CT Well that's excellent! It worked for the GT3.
1seipai Indeed! Very excited for it.
When did sliding around every corner during a track review become the way to drive? That’s all I see in almost every review I see.
Hate the tiny Mazda look lights.
looks great in black, but i'd rather have an f type v6 for much less money.
Sound has really gone south...a pity.
Why do turbos have to ruin every car they're on. The only thing you can hear is tire roar
Am I the only one who wants to drop a v10 in and widebody the heck out of this car
Love the way it sounds.
Sweetness
someone else hates the fact that is not an A.M engine?!
Sounds better than a normal 911 but that's about it.
I know its gonna be good before watching it brill work
Just buy a Mercedes AMG GTR and you have a true German beast. Shame Aston sold out.

I'd prefer 60fps over 4k. Please start filming in 60fps! Or at least 50!
