9:38 Just to get Leo van Doeselaar playing the note for tuning the cellos would make it worth it for me to participate in this project. Now seriously, what a huge amount of talent in the room, both from the learners and the teacher!

One of the most ennobling (the teacher) and inspiring (the students) things I've seen this week. And, Bach imbues and inspires it all!

Exactly what a teacher should be. She doesn’t judge negatively she listens and looks intently and then offers ideas about where to go next in order to extend skills. I once saw an older cello teacher reduce a little dot of a girl to tears. Why? The girl was doing her pre grade 1. Her cello had gone out of tune and she asked the examiner for help. She was ordered out ofthe room. I remember looking at that woman, thinking what do you think you are hear to do? I always remember that little one, who had a lot more gumption than I’d have had at that stage, and I hope that she wasn’t put off for life! Pretty wonderful music. Pretty inspiring cellests.

toujours le miracle des master classes : après un conseil, c'est comme une lumière qui se fait d'un coup, et qui me tire une larme d'émotion à chaque fois...

it is a great duty to pass it on to the next generation. all was lost once because it wasn't passed on gradually. the art of improvisation was lost, continuo playing was lost, instrument building was lost... they needed revival. great to see young souls that love and practice Bach.

What a lovely video - such beautiful sounds being made! So many details, two of which reminded me of a concert, many years ago, of early 17th Century music from the English court.
The first was the picture of Boccherini, which reminded me of the viols without an end spike. It looked very uncomfortable for the players. The second was the effect of temperature on gut strings, which might account for why the lutanist, with a smile, had to keep re-tuning his instrument.

Actually, playing a baroque cello without an endpin, in a viola da gamba fashion, is preferable for body posture and intonation. Modern cellists tend to lie on their backs instead of keeping an upright position when playing.

De viola da gamba is ver uit superieur aan de cello.
