Mexico City has plenty of touristic zones like Centro Histórico, Coyoacán, Condesa, Roma, Polanco, Chapultepec, Zona Rosa, Santa María La Ribera, San Angel, more than 100 museums, plenty of parks, archaeological sites, amazing architecture of all the ages, excellent street food, excellent high end restaurants and bars, and people go to visit this, great entertainment, but tourists want to visit this ...
The area below is an insecure middle lower class zone, those are not poor homes, there are other areas in the city where the houses are made with just Plastic Roofing Sheets or tarpaulines, but inside of these houses it's actually like any other medium class home, with all the services, and regular houses or apartments, the difference is that they just have cheaper finishes, it's like visiting a medium lower class suburb in NYC.
Thanks for sharing, i'm going in two weeks, i'll have to check it out, like you said, spectacular way to see somewhere less touristy.

With the recent extension, it is actually almost three times the size of Central Park.
Chapultepec bosque .. its actually 3 times bigger than central park due to extention just finished !!
What Central Park of New York has is that it has a strategic delimitation, Chapultepec Park is more natural and that is why its delimitation is not very well defined.
There is no extreme poverty, everyone has sanitary services, light, and work

Mexico society is more complex than a yes or no, there´s are extreme poverty even or near wealthy areas, is not focalised, but yea Iztapalapa has a more higer rate in that topic but also you can find very rich people in Iztapalapa...
