      My mother was named after Bette Davis although that wasn't her real name my grandmother my mom's mom named but I didn't know that until a few years ago that her real name was Ruth Elizabeth Davis but my mom despised her and didn't like her not her movies my late mom was born in 1938 I like to watch her in some of her movies but she was such a b**ch and just plain evil and treacherous but she was a great actress and I don't understand her feud with Joan Crawford or was that done sort of a publicity stunt or was it really real!

      You guys are gonna get so mad but I don’t really like Bette Davis. I find her weird but I want to like her. I’ve seen her in the Baby Jane movie but I’m wondering if there’s other movies I should watch in order to appreciate her??

    • @mikeilamenk

      @@DonnaChamberson Maybe you could try her earlier works, All About Eve, Dark Victory, Watch on the Rhine, Little Foxes, The Letter, Now Voyager, The Petrified Forest, Marked Woman, The Great Lie, if you want to see her do comedy try The Bride Came C.O.D.. She did a lot of great movies and even when they’re not great she’s still great in them. She gave her all no matter how silly the plots were and even if she hated doing them.

She stuck with her and always had the nicest things to say about her. Thank you Ms. Olivia for loving Bette ❤️ They’re so cute together I don’t often see Bette being like this with others 💖 and it’s true, Bette played real human beings, she wasn’t known for getting glamorized and having trademark glamor looks. She played evil, old, hideous, innocent, naive, angelic roles.

    Olivia told me she believed her performance in "Snake Pit" was her best. I believe her performance in "Hush...hush Sweet Charlotte" was her best in that she portrayed a villainous woman who plotted against an innocent mentally disturbed woman. Very unique and not the 'nice' part like Melanie in "Gone with the Wind". A most wonderful and talented lady.

    • @garyonbroadway1919

      'Snake Pit' is a pretty f.u.ed movie that ripped the web of lies off the way mental illness (especially among women) was mistreated, abused, required little more than a man to say,
      "She's CRAZY" for a woman to lose all automony.

    Why they cast Catherine Zeta Jones to play this woman in Feud I will never know. Minus the fact there is zero resemblance between the two, her portrayal was closer to a mousy, air-headed whispery version of Marilyn Monroe than the classy and forthright Olivia de Havilland.

    • @Kindred04
      @Kindred04 5 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      I agree. Olivia actually sued FX and Ryan Murphy for defamation over the way they portrayed her in Feud. They didn't consult her or ask her permission to use her name and likeness. She originally won her lawsuit, but unfortunately she lost after FX and Murphy appealed the case. It's amazing that she filed suit at 101 years old to protect her reputation. She will be 103 this July.

      Ever since the end of censorship in the 1960s, modern film producers seem compelled to make things "realistic" by including vulgar language and sex acts. Back in the golden years of Hollywood, that was not permitted. I grew up watching the old movies and prefer their subtlety. If I wanted things to be "realistic," I'd drive down to Walmart and watch people at the checkout counter.

    • @Blondie727
      @Blondie727 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      LoveFlatfootin1 Perfectly stated. I must’ve been born in the wrong era for I love Old Hollywood. It seemed like a classier time. It was also a time when actors had to rely on true talent instead of special effects or tawdry sex scenes. The actors/actresses always looked so glamorous unlike the trash of today. I miss the likes of Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, Marlon Brando, Rita Hayworth, Marilyn, Cary Grant; the list can go on and on. My point is there will never be a time like the Golden Age of Hollywood. It actually saddens me when I see Kim Kardashian being touted as Hollywood royalty when she is only famous for a sex tape and a lackluster reality show. True talent is gone & trashy reality tv has taken its place. The Golden Era would be turning in their graves if they saw what constitutes as talent in today’s society.

      No problem! My grandmother taught me well. She is the one who introduced me to the likes of Marilyn Monroe and that got me interested in the other players in Old Hollywood. My gram hated modern Hollywood and scoffed at the "stars" of today. She also was a one of a kind classy lady who taught me the importance of taking care of my appearance. I only wish she were still here for me for she taught me a lot.

And of course her 1936 win for her 1935 film "Dangerous' was considered Bette Davis' consolation Oscar for not being nominated and winning, as she should have been for "Of Human Bondage" the previous year.

      Willie Mitchell I don’t think so. Olivia seemed to fly down that ramp and literally flung herself on Bette. It is evident, to me at least, that Bette was caught unawares. I’m sure after the show they had a cocktail or two over a good old chin-wag!

    I like Bette's hair at 2:48. Around that time her hair was often styled flat to the head, which is unflattering. Here it has volume and shine. Whomever styled it did a great job. Perhaps Bette's hair was growing thin due to menopause.

    Heard Bette put down Flynn's acting in Elizabeth and Essex, but looking at the picture years later changed her mind. While she thought she was pure genius, at the time, her performance has aged and Flynn's remains fresh and contemporary, even by todays standards.

  • @antmagor

    A head of Feud, I saw, whatever happened to baby Jane, and subsequently hush-hush sweet Charlotte, following feud. Personally, I enjoyed Charlotte so much better and I am very glad Joan Crawford did not get to keep the role. These two gave such a perfect performance. I can’t imagine it any other way. And frankly the plot I found so much more intriguing than Jane. But that’s a matter of preference of course.

    Interesting what would happen if Joen Crowford did not fake her sickness and she would be in "Hush... hush, sweet Charlotte". By the way i don't know how people think but think Betty Devis and Joen Crawford could have been friends if not rumors and people who wanted them fight and have feud because if not people and by "people" i mean director and one of Warner brothers who loved if believe serial "feud" they wanted them have feud because thought people will like that. Joen Crowford and Betty Davis had a lot in common
