Thanks for your hard work and for sharing this. I'm DIY guy and want to make my own rock tumbler. You've given me some good ideas on how to get started. You have a new subscriber :)

Spray rubber or latex on the inside to make the can last long like the ceramic coating on a cement mixer

“It might be some kind of metal, awe hell I don’t know.” For some reason that made me laugh. 👍

The rocks you got from the railway track look like welding slag to me. Am I wrong? If it is from thermite then it is aluminum oxide one of the hardest materials and the sort of thing to use as a polishing stone rather than nuts.

I would try a steel pipe 8 inch diameter with welded plate on one end for mounting and a rubber cap on the other end hose clamped. Never wear out.

Could have put a rubber mat in there:
1 It will aid grip to rotate the rocks
2 It would have some damping to the rocks so they wont bruise
3 It would be alot quieter

      ...
4 ... And it would prevent the can from being grind to a hole so quickly to boost.

I like your 'dodge coupler' lol... I want one the size of a fifty five gallon drum so I can put it at the far end of the yard and annoy the hell out of my crappy neighbor

Holy crap dude! The motor you used was such overkill. I realize use what you have but damn.

he could tumble a tanker truck with this beast :)
just for any one wondering: for a can-tumbler like this a 5 to 12 v motor with around 15 to 100 rpm is way enough, no need for a mains power motor like you see on lots of builds

Should of made it a five gallon bucket at least.

    Your funny!
    1. I thought the plastic top would have popped off before rocks wore a hole in the metal.
    2, really huge rocks!!
    3.woe!! Nuts?
    4. The focus most intensely stayed on the mechanics of motor and low noise rather than the science of the end product,but...
5.you finally suceeded ,and the project worked, with industrial "torque" and speed.....umm how much would you charge make one for me??
