    I can't believe you keep bringing the compressor vids. You have to be the compressor king by now.

      Hey man, I just try to answer questions about things that I used to wonder about - and this was one of them. 🤘🇺🇸

    Also keep an eye out for industrial receiver tanks. They hold much more. Run the largest air hose you can (you can always step it down with a short whip for airing tires etc).

    Great video and very informative. It is like a capacitor for air compressors. I have 300 gallon tank for my 7 horsepower shop compressor. I bought it from an auto body shop who ran all their tools all day on air. It is a beast and my dad looks at it and shakes his head because it takes up so much space on his side of the garage...lol

    Had to give this a like simply because you had a Seabee hoody on. I was a builder in the Seabees.

    Omg, FINALLY someone does actual experiments and gives real numbers instead of just generic, hypothetical jibber jabber! Thank you! I was starting to think real data was forbidden. Lol. P.S. Initial fill times (how long for compressor to fill empty aux tank) and recovery times (after tool shuts off, how long does compressor run to restore system pressure to comp/aux tanks) would've been interesting and useful.

      Thank you for that feedback! I’m always scoring old compressors - when I do another expansion tank I’ll make a new video with those numbers. I appreciate the support and suggestion! 🇺🇸🤘

    Great video. So my 21 gallon HF compressor went off. I was thinking to buy a 26 gallon kobalt compressor or the DeWalt small vertical/horizontal compressor and use the bad compressor as extended tank. Would that be good idea? Just regular use at home. Thanks.

    • @jimmysgarage9068
      @jimmysgarage9068  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn’t recommend using a 21 gallon tank as an expansion. A smaller machine will take forever to fill it up - wouldn’t really be worth the wait. Check out my newer videos on the fortress compressors from HF - they’re legit. Thank you for watching 🇺🇸🤘

    It doesn’t increase working pressure, just volume. I’m sure you know that but you did say otherwise at the beginning.

  • @SteveHacker
    @SteveHacker 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Ok, but HOW do I connect the extra tank to my crappy little compressor? What KIND of tank and parts do I need? Don’t most tanks only have ONE inlet/outlet?

    • @jimmysgarage9068
      @jimmysgarage9068  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You’ll need a dual male end hose to connect your compressor to the tank. It also depends on the kind of tank you have. Make sure you have an air port IN, an air port OUT with a regulator and you’ll be fine. I hope that makes sense.

  • @IlfStoyanov
    @IlfStoyanov ปีที่แล้ว +15

    You don't increase the working pressure by attaching an extra tank, you increase the volume of air, while maintaining the same pressure level. What you increase by increasing the volume is the time your tool can work at it's rated pressure level. You can't increase the working pressure beyond what a compressor is rated, first the cut off valve will not allow you to do so, and if you disconnect it, the safety valve will do it's work, and if you remove that, congrats, you qualified for a Darwin award.

    Downside..... the small compressor isn't sized for the large volume or long run times. It will burn up much sooner.

    • @Glocktologist
      @Glocktologist 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly. No matter what size of a tank you have, all the air used by the tool comes from the compressor - which have a thing called duty cycle.
      This mod allows you to have a larger initial air reserve in case you have a tool that requires a lot of air but is not used continuously. Or if you have a tool you do use continuously but it doesn’t use that much air, it’ll reduce the frequency of starting and stopping.

    • @WilliamLassley
      @WilliamLassley 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not exactly so. We had six nail guns running off a 6 gallon compressor with a 30 gallon extra tank, and it kept everyone busy every day for the 5 years I worked there, and that little compressor never had a problem.

  • @davidisthis
    @davidisthis 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Why not test with them running? Not very often will we run a compressor without the power plugged in. I suppose because it will never stop but you check the psi. When it drops below a certain psi.

    • @jimmysgarage9068

      So the idea with many of my videos are “short and sweet”. If I were to include operation of the setup while running, the video may have gone pretty long & been drawn out. I do appreciate the feedback though - perhaps in the future I could split it up to show operation of the setup in a separate video. Once could give the overall information, with the other showing more of the operational/performance side. Thank you for watching and commenting 🇺🇸🤘
