This is 10x the work required. Trust me, Ive done this job twice, you DO NOT need to pull the steering wheel/airbag . That Torx that's tough to get at the back of the steering wheel just use a GO-THRU SOCKET 1/4" ratcheting soocket wrench with a short T25 bit. . I guess its time to start making my own videos...
Informative video. Now, if the engineers had been thinking, they would have had the unit unplug at the switch instead of way underneath the dash. It would have saved me at least an hour or two.
I just finished changing the switch. The video was a big help. There are so many different ways that connectors come apart. I don't do this kind of work every day. Those tips and many others about where fasteners were and sizes were a big help also. Also how to take dash panels off without breaking. Very well done and very helpful. Thank you for your effort.

Thanks for this instruction, followed most of it to get this replaced. Couple diviation with my steps. Note: use a 4mm socket to remove the two reverse hex screws, no special tools needed. You do not need to remove the steering wheel. Just detach the top and bottom steering wheel cover top does not need to completely come out. Also using a T20 remove the two screws located at back of the steering wheel where the video say to remove the airbags, this allows the back cover to come out. Using a 1/4 T25 socket on a swivel head the top screw for the switch can be access using the hole where the emergency flasher comes out of. Turn the top of the steering wheel to the driver side, you will be able to gain access to the front screw in a similar fasion as the above but through the opening of the steering wheel back cover.
Best video I've seen for this application . Thorough & detailed as should be . You actually show the way to disassemble wiring connectors at bottom ! Now I know & can do mine . I commend you for this .
You do not need to remove the steering wheel or your ignition switch or even the top plastic on steering wheel.. i got both of my multifunction switch screws out without takeing all that other stuff off..
Okay i watched them all...this is the beat one\way ive seen. Im still thinking my little socket set could remove the screws for switch with removing steering wheel and switch.wish me luck
You can use a 1/4" wrench and stick the bit inside it and slowly loosen the switch one quarter turn at a time. This way you don't have to remove the steering wheel
At 3:05 you were supposed to hold that plastic from spinning ,you broke it [me too,no biggie] . If you don't have the E5 torx ,you can use a 4mm socket
Good video. Thank you. I replaced the combo switch but when I put it all back together, my horn is now stuck on. No idea what I did wrong as everything went really smooth. I had replaced switch because 4 ways were not working and they still don't work. Everything else functions normally. turn signals etc. For the moment I have pulled the "horn stick" out so I can still use the truck and it doesn't contact the air bag. No idea what I did wrong or how I could have fouled up the horn. After several disassemblies and reassemblies I don't know how or why the horn is stuck on and how it really functions on/off stages. Maybe someone could explain to me!
A forewarning, the part he said to press bolts into to drive the steering wheel off was riveted and tack welded to the wheel. I bent the part and ruined the wheel. His is free from the wheel for whatever reason. If the wheel won’t come off, don’t make it.
Does anyone know how to pull the combination switch out after unscrewing both t25 screws? I pull very hard on the connector and it moves slightly but it doesn’t come out?
SOMEONE HELP! OK I’ve been chasing around this issue with my flashing hazard lights. When I press the brake pedal with the emergency lights; the flashers stop blinking & stay solid with my brake lights. After I let off the pedal, they continue to flash. I’ve replaced my flasher switch as shown in the video. I’ve changed relays, clean the fuses and grounds and also replaced my brake 6-pin switch but I can’t come up with anything.
My truck does not have one of those little green connectors that the little connector goes into. But my old switch had one of the connectors but It just came right out I don’t think it was connected to anything
+Kevin Thompson We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Ok I have a question my head light's were turning off and on while driving at night I tried turning on the high beams would not work either unless the low beams were working replaced my multifunction switch and headlight switch and my lights still randomly turn off even the DRL's go out it's A1996 K1500 WtF anyone else have this issue?

This just reaffirms the old saying, an engineer will drag his nuts through glass than make it easy on somebody who works on their own stuff.

About how long does this take, start to finish, including cushion time, coffee and cigarettes breaks??

How did yo get the top plastic off ?
A couple seconds of detail on the little green clip would have been great but overall a super helpful video.
Great detail and footage in this video!
Hi there, do you have to remove the steering. I noticed in your 1999-2007 , you didn't have to remove the steering. They kinda look same
Okay i watched them all...this is the beat one\way ive seen.

Remove the covers and turn steering wheel to the side to get the side screw no steering wheel removal
Completely different design than my 1994 GMC K1500. Inaccurate title
this was a great help, thanks!

That sounds perfectly normal to me
Does anyone know what the exact size of the nut to remove the steering wheel is? I’m not with the truck to check it at the moment.
So on my 97 Silverado my headlights cause my wipers to come on.. I just changed out my multi switch no luck. Any ideas?

Same here, I have a combination switch that has a black connector which houses 2 wires, and I do not have anywhere to connect that black connector.
Great video
My second screw is blocked from coming out what do I do?

I'm certain your years are wrong.

Poor showing. How do you remove the f’n block from the wiring harness. No sales!
This video is a waste because it does not cover 93 that is not the steam steering column
You are correct. The title of the video should be changed. He is working on steering columns for the 95-99 generation.
Not a waste . This was perfect for my application , this showed & teached me more than any other video on this platform .
@@FlyingPanda1000 could you link me to a video that applies for 93? That would be so helpful
