Yeah, Tuna salad is a lot like Chicken salad. There are so many things we could add...apple chunks, grapes, crushed walnuts, tomato...
      Where do we stop?
I guess we just add what sounds good at the time.
This is a great recipe for a quick sandwich.
I'm all about quick and easy these days.

@dennisluz6453 all the major brands have solid white albacore as well as chunk light. I can only eat solid white albacore, never the darker fish-too "fish-y". Otherwise,I make a sandwich like Catherine, celery leaves and all.
On ma4blw rye with romaine is the fave.

We substitute white chicken in a can for tuna. It actually smells and tastes like tuna. Maybe your husband might like that. The only other ingredients we use is carrots minced and about 1-2 tablespoons of lemon juice. It helps cuts down on the tuna taste. Thank you for videos.

I firmly believe that garlic has no business in any of these salads with mayo, not even garlic flavored mayo. But then again, this is my humble opinion. I love garlic bread, though, but with just the right amount that it won't ruin the bread. 😊

Tuna salad sandwiches are so good, remind me of my childhood. My kids and husband refuse😅more for me! They have the pouches of tuna now which I love better, no draining!
Grew up with mom making it with hard boiled eggs and diced pickles, yum. Some friends houses would have celery and some would have pieces of lettuce. I like them all but now I can eat it with nothing but mayo and either toast and cheese or if I’m being good and doing the gluten free way, Doritos😋

I've been thinking that tuna, like almost everything else lately, is a victim of "shrinkflation", meaning that the amount of tuna in the can has been shrinking over the years. But, I couldn't prove it.
Well, I collect vintage cookbooks, and I was reading one recently. I came across a recipe for tuna salad sandwiches, which called for one 7-ounce can of tuna. Nowadays, there are only 5-ounce cans of tuna, or the big 12-ounce cans.
The standard can of tuna has shrunk 2 ounces over the years, and is at record high prices.
    🤯

    Super nice recipe.
In Madras they have a recipe with Shark.Known as Shark Puttu.
We can do the same for tuna as well.
Since Tuna is raw, some may not like it.
This us how I would do Tuna Puttu.
    Take the drained Tuna.
Chop of Onion, green chillies, generous Garlic and ginger.
Saute all the above in a hot oil.
    Add Tuna.
Turn the Tuna in the kadai.
Then add salt to taste and
    Turmeric powder and Chilli powder.
    Cook for 5 to 7min.
Sprinkle with curry leaf and coriander and stuff as sandwich filler.
    Tastes great.

For an easy brunch, I'll make bowls of tuna salad, egg salad, lox and bagels, sliced fruit and a veggie platter with crudite and sliced tomato, lettuce, pickles etc.... and for the tuna salad I use "Sweet Onions" like walla walla, they add a refreshing onion crunch without the bitter bite that you get from red onions..

I use chopped apple instead of the onion (it cuts down on some of the fishy taste), sweet relish instead of the dill, and I put some lettuce or sprouts on for that extra crunch and a little nutty taste. I love dill pickles, so I will definitely try your version! Love your videos! Lots of good ideas and flavors. I do have to cut your recipes down, as I'm cooking for myself, and they turn out great.

We live in Alaska so we can our own sockeye (red) salmon that we catch. We use it instead of tuna because it's...just better haha! We like it with mustard and mayonnaise on soft or toasted bread with crisp lettuce. We also like the salmon mixed with avocado, cilantro, and lime juice, either plain, in lettuce cups, or with rice crackers. The best way to eat canned salmon though is make it with the mayonnaise and mustard and then stuff it into sticky rice to make salmon onigiri (rice balls), then it's wrapped in roasted seaweed and eaten with shoyu soy sauce. Soooo good! Sometimes we just mix the rice and salmon together in a bowl and scoop it out onto pieces of seaweed snacks for a lazy way to eat the same thing haha! Love watching your channel!

Sometimes I will add garlic powder, and/or onion powder (use onion powder more if I don't have an onion) as well. Sometimes I use regular toast and sometimes a toasted bun, and add cheese to it. And either eat two sandwiches, or add either potato chips or fries. My husband doesn't like tuna sandwiches that much, but he likes salmon, and sometimes I'll fix it up the same way. I never add salt or pepper. Husband will add pepper on his but not salt - we don't use much salt or sugar around this house, but husband uses a lot of pepper.

I always use the best quality canned tuna, solid white Tuna in water. I also add chopped fine dill pickle, finely chopped green/spring onion, grated cheddar cheese, some pepper and some onion soup mix, with Hellman's real mayo. It is delicious... excellent on toast broiled. Not a big fan of celery. I also add some mayo to the toast, cause also do not like a dry sandwich!

Very similar to my family's third generation recipe, but we omit the pickles, add a dab of yellow mustard, and stir in chopped hard boiled eggs to finish 😊

    Everything she added plus:
Lemon pepper, dash of Worcestershire, dash of lemon juice, dill weed, amount ???, shredded carrots.
Can't tell you amounts because.....I have no idea.
I made mine for people that hated tuna salad, I can only recall 1-2 that said it wasn't bad but it was still to fishy, other half dozen or so, liked it.
One lady said before hand that she had tried many people's recipes, liked none. Liked mine.
Wife likes it on toasted croissant.

Celery, sweet relish and Dukes Mayo. Tsp. lemon juice. Use water pack white tuna. Onion sometimes but go easy. Our cat Lily got all the juice!

Family favorite: tuna, boiled eggs, mayo, hot Chinese mustard ( not much of that 😂) onion, celery and just a pinch of Dill Weed. Salt to taste. Best served on cinnamon raisin bread.

I add boiled eggs, lettuce, chopped cherry tomatoes, garlic powder, onion powder, cheese, and only on the side-dill pickle slices. It’s also really good served on French bread.

I’ve used blue cheese dressing in place of mayo. For seasoning, something like Lawry’s works well. I also add a splash of soy sauce and prefer sweet relish.

Hi Catherine - just wondering if maybe you could do a series on just different, basic sandwiches ? Like for lunchtime and kid's school lunches ? People that work from home....we need some simple, affordable ideas . Thank you !

Whenever I make tuna salad, I will add old bay, salt, pepper, sweet relish or dill relish, and mayonnaise. Sometimes I will add grapes (sliced in half) or diced up some apple for some added crunch. I will use onion powder if I don't have an onion in the refrigerator.

Not bad, but if you want to jazz it up a bit, do what I do: use a bit less mayo and add a few good splashed of red wine vinegar and 1/2 tsp of oregano.

I make it very similar. I dont always add the pickles but I do like it. I keep my tuna cans in the fridge so my tuna salad is already cold. The only difference is I only use solid white albacore tuna in water. I dont like chunk light at all.

Next time besides draining it try washing it also and squeezing the water out of it that way that’s how I do it. I’m not crazy for canned tuna.
