    Just to let you know guys the Grab is more or less sold. Two guys were on to me today. Coming to see it tomorrow so i’ll update later. Also heifer is on the mend thankfully since then but that quarter was lost. Just one of those things unfortunately. 👍

    Great honest videos Adrian..just a tip I was given on preventing the summer mastitis on heifers...get a few bottles of clear nail polish and paint it onto the teats...you might have to do it twice or 3 times but it creates a seal on the teat...you will have to break that seal when they calf down

    I have switched to using Flecktron fly tags in cows and heifers. 5 months protection no need to use pour on every 3-4 weeks really pleased with the results. Also when looking at bale splitters take a look at a keltec. They cut up the way which is really convenient for low roofs or filling into trailers as is holds the plastic up far higher than others that cut like a shear grab.

  • @DTUSER-cs7mr
    @DTUSER-cs7mr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I would suggest to keep away from bale handling grab which is similar to a conventional silage grab. From my experience, I found that they do not work well and you have to be dead on when catching the bale. We now run a keltec bale splitter and I find it runs a lot better as the cutting knife comes up from underneath and rarely if ever would you have issues with it not catching the plastic correctly

    Rossmore Multishear is what your talking about I think? 4ft 6” built to suit the smaller 100hp tractors to be able to handle them. Full sheargrab design but the front teeth are 8” shorter than a normal grab, has the little ram to pinch the plastic too. Can be used on pit too you’ll just have the little 8” gap on the pit face that won’t be super cut clean. Looking at getting one here too 👍🏼

    Good man Adrian. Watching you in South Down. Hope the grab goes well. I have both a Keltec and Tanco bale shear. The Tanco isn't reliable to be very honest. It's grabber mechanism doesn't catch enough plastic and wrap. Consequently it drops a lot of plastic and net. The prongs stick in the plastic which means you have to get out to free it. The Keltec is a different kettle of fish. Its very reliable. It might drop plastic twice in 350 bales. The Tanco would drop 1 in 5.

I could never get a full block filled right to the back of the grab. It didn't like closing on dry silage either. I'll not name the brand but I'll chalk it up to experience. But then I thought nah that's too obvious. Hence the pigmy goat's. So the chappy who just added some pigmy goats to his list of livestock was on the lookout for a sheer grab a few months back maybe he could help you find a buyer since he had a few old ones he was looking to pass on. Cut down artic flatbed is the only job if you don’t want to all out with a top of the range bale trailer . Cheap as chips and has air brakes etc 👍🏻 we got two on the cheap and got a local man to cut them down to length and weld on a drawbar and headboard. Great job . 👍🏻

      That would be the way to go, no I would my buying anything new. As long as it gets the bales home it would be grand. 👍

    Nice shear grab. Yellow doesn't go well with the newly sprayed loader. Black would look better. Time to get out the spray gun.

    Haunted with summer mastitis this year in our suckler herd too, 6 cows so far this year all treated but still very annoying. This year worse than any other, can only put it down to weather.

      I used Synulox tubes and Engemycin, I don’t hold much faith in this stuff any more. Tetra Delta was a powerful Mastitis tube but like many others good things it was taking of the market. Stuff just seems to be a lot weaker now. That’s bad luck Mark, weather definitely increases the likelihood for sure

      Your completely right about the tubes now. Seems you have to use double the tubes now as apposed to tetra delta which makes you wonder is antibiotic reduction working?

      That much is certain Adrian, they have the the majority of the good products taken off the market. It’s making it very hard to cure things like this now.
