Love the balance between sweet corn and regular corn silage! The cows must go crazy for that sweet corn mix. Great work keeping things running smoothly!
We used to unload from hayloft which worked well. Green corn not the best but it transitioned us to fall grazing of all crop land. Two people easy , one a little slower. Amazing how much cows eat of green corn.
Thank you. Yes he plants different varieties at different times so it all doesn't mature at once. That way he can pick and sell fresh corn all throughout the summer
Yup we already chopped off our sweet corn too and we threw a couple of watermelons and cantaloupe in as an extra treat. Then we split a field corn field in half to mix in the cows go nuts for that. To us it's kind of like the last rite of summer.
B3ans look like there doing good Mike. Hopefully we get a good harvest season. Things are drying up the last couple of days. Dont mind a shower. Just hoping for a drier corn season for us. Still need some higher temps still. Have a good one
You mentioned in passing about getting a tmr did you mean stationary or tractor powered. One thing to consider is you guys are set up really well for a lely vector with the silos all you would need extra is 2 com boxes one for dry hay and one for baleage or agbag cornsilage
It was planted at different times, thats why some is still green and some is pretty brown. He hand picks all the sweet corn for his stand so 5 acres is plenty.
how many head you milk some that greener corn wish i was near yall would liked to sift threw and got some the better seconds off it to put in the freezer for this winter
Nice Mike, we're a little bit out on corn silage yet, got a question though, would the feed cart work as very rudimentary tmr mixer if you dumped your forages and high moisture in it all together, never delt with a cart like you have
Is that a Kemper head? Or a Dion? It looks like a Kemper design, but I didn't know that they made them for PT choppers. Either way, it's better than the straight row unit heads. Doesn't matter if it's the auger base unit or the old standard row head, they plug on sharp curves! Great video, Mike! Does the "green chop" hurt production? I know that blending it doesn't hurt.
We didn't do a bag last year. With the corn not drying down we got done chopping corn in November. Being that it was November we wanted to jump on the soybeans so we took a gamble that we would get by without bagging any
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO I BEEN VERY DEPRESSED FOR THE WHOLE 2024 YEAR IT HAS BEEN ROUGH WITH MONEY SINCE I HAVE SERNT FAMILY MEMBERS WHO ROUND BALE HAY FOR 7 YEARS AND NEVER PAYED FOR IT BUT WE WILL BE CHANGING THINGS SOON KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK THE OTHER THING THAT BEEN DEPRESSION IS WE HAD A CAR CRASH THAT TOOK THE LIFE OF A LIFE OF A 16 YEAR OLD AND HE WAS ONLY IN 11TH GRADE THIS SCHOOL YEAR AND I KNEW THE DAD OF THE KID FOR AWHILE AND I SEEN THE CAR FLY OFF THE ROAD AND I KNEW IT WAS BAD AND I SEEN THE DAD CRYING BY THE CRASH SITE IT WAS ROUGH FOR MY MOM AND I SINCE WE BOTH KNEW THE FATHER OF THE KID AND THE FACT IT THE VEIW WE ALWAYS SEE CARS DRIVE BY OR THE NEIGHBORS DO FARM WORK IN THE FIELDS. Yeah its like putting a bow on the summer and starting fall harvest

Thank you Bryan. I'm pretty happy with how the beans look. Hopefully they have plenty of pods on them. Best of luck with your harvest
Always thought it was interesting how fermentation can keep animal geed from spoiling and also can make it more digestible.
An interesting process for sure
Nice video just finishing sweetcorn here in Wisconsin I see you had Brunt t shirt on have you tried there boots and good? Thanks and happy farming
Thank you. I have their shirt and a pair of their work pants but I have not tried their boots yet. I would like to try them
Never ever ask "what could go wrong" ! No need to jinx yourself lol
I thought about that after I said it

More then likely a tractor powered mixer
Great video Mike, is lil man selling pumpkins this year?
Thank you Glen. That's his plan
I can smell it already.
Its a sweet smell for sure
Great Video Mike, I take it sweet corn matures earlier than corn, why don't you grow more of it? thanks for sharing
It was planted at different times, thats why some is still green and some is pretty brown. He hand picks all the sweet corn for his stand so 5 acres is plenty.

The barn holds 50 cows. There might still be a couple ears still good in the greener stuff
Does the rotary chopper work as good against the rows as with them?
I think the rotary head works good no matter which direction you go
We don't grow corn all balage. I do miss chopping corn
Chopping corn is one of my favorite jobs. I would miss it too
@mikep7810 we don't have enough land and it's hard to grow organic corn
Nice Mike, we're a little bit out on corn silage yet, got a question though, would the feed cart work as very rudimentary tmr mixer if you dumped your forages and high moisture in it all together, never delt with a cart like you have
They make carts like this that has a mixing chain as well. I don't think you would get a nice constant mix dumping everything into our cart.
@@mikep7810 ok

Its a Dion head. Yeah the production will dip when you feed green silage as apposed to nice fermented silage
So the silo is empty and the bag is to?

Smells like corn chopping season.
Let the season begin!
👀🙄🐾👍Interesting video Mike what were the yellow plants in the trees around the sweet corn
Thank you Jim. Probably just a weed. I'll have to go back to the footage and look

Sorry to hear how things have been going Matt. Hopefully things turn around for you for the better
time to build new... bigger dairy barn ?
So really almost a 100% off the use of a ear of corn.
Yes, the ear, stalk, leaves, the whole plant gets chopped
not much room for error running that feed cart you know what your doing
Thank you Dana. Still bump things from time to time
