Some background about the song "Daididau" and the story about the Kazakh poet Magzhan Zhumabayev.
"Magzhan Zhumabayev, who used to call his beloved wife Zylikha - Daididau (her name was Zylikha Qurmanbaykizi, they married 1922) wrote this songtext. Magzhan was arrested twice, in 1926 and 1937.When he was arrested for the first time all of his relatives were persecuted too. His brothers were arrested. Even his younger brother Salimzhan was captured on his way from Leningrad (Saint Petersburg) where he went to know Magzhan’s fate. The rest ones looked away from Magzhan’s family in fear to be captured too. But Zylikha never gave up. In spite of all risk she went to Leningrad for the several times to support her husband. She was keeping bringing him food and clothes. She reached out Russian writer Maksim Gorkiy and asked him for a help who rescued many intellectuals during Repression years. Finally, Gorkiy helped to Magzhan too and the poet was set free in 1936.
The second and last arrest was fatal for him. The Kazakh poet Magzhan Zhumabayev was executed by shooting in 1938.
Magzhan’s literature heritage was not left to us in full. All poetry, poems, and works had been created before his first arrest in 1926. They were kept safe thanks to Zylikha’s hard work. She collected and retyped his notes and papers in spite of all his copyrighted works were under a ban. They were prohibited till 1989!! Unfortunately, there is no information about Magzhan’s latest poetry including Daididau song. The biographers studying his life think the song could be written in 1930 when Magzhan was sent to Karelia. Nobody talked openly who was the author of the song being afraid it could be the object of the State Censorship. The song was used in Kazakh Soviet movie “Shanyrak” directed by Edige Bolysbayev. Those in the know about the song told to the movie director that he brought their dreams come truth.
    "
Nowadays Daididau is the most famous Kazakh song in the whole world thanks to Dimash Kudaibergen great performance.

I heard, in an interview with his mom, that Dimash's parents were surprised when he told them he wanted to sing Dididau. And I know you were told that "The World's Best" (UGH!) cut the entire performance. But this folk song has become loved all around the world, and the applause when he is about to start the song is amazing. When he finishes the song it is even more thunderous. I've been thinking recently how much Dimash is teaching us all about music, and how diverse his Dears are: rock singers, people who were mainly into rap, people who like pop and more...many people you would never expect to go for the songs he sings. Anyway, the more you get into his music the more you will find yourself saying things like "Wow, I never expected that"...over and over and over. It is STILL a ride for us all. Thank you, Caleb.

The end of the story is quite sad. The songwriter was released from prison and found out that he was lied to about the betrayal. He was imprisoned again 2 years later and executed for his "crimes". Dimash is so proud of his country and introducing his country's music to the world is a very important achievement. Watch the Bastau concert performance... it's even more emotional. The significance of singing this song at his first solo concert is written all over his face. ❤

Morning Caleb! I love Daididau and how emotional his performances of the song is. They are all very good and the Bastau concert was even more emotional. This is how I see Dimash when he sings Daididau.
It's like watching your favorite Olympian on his walk to the podium after he's already won the gold. I get very emotional when he sings it because it feels like he's doing his walk for us. Then when their national anthem is played, you see all the emotions across the athlete's face and you feel so happy and proud for them. That is Dimash's face at the Bastau concert...😍 It is always such a proud moment for him and it makes me very emotional when he performs this song. He's proud of his country and he always wants to share it with the world. 😍

To my understanding, during the Singer competition, the singers/participants didn't only sing, but they have to involve in the music arrangement. And Dimash was quite 'stubborn' in that matter as he knew what he really wanted.

Thanks for a great reaction Caleb! Always love your comments & analysis. The stringed instrument is a traditional Kazakh two-stringed Dombra. He plays it really well even though he says he's 'not a Dombra man'. He plays it usually before this beautiful traditional song Daididau. He's quite passionate about sharing Kazakh culture & this is always quite an emotional song for him. Never heard a singer quite so exquisite as Dimash!

The man in the story of the song was executed . Dimash always wanted to sing and perform Daididau in front of the world and his wishes came true in The Singer. Without his knowledge, a group of musicians from his school was set to travel to China to play the music with Dimash. He really sang his heart out in this performance and stated that whatever happens to the competition, he is happy that he was able to sing Daididau and show the culture of his country Qazhakstan. And he did alright. So proud of Dimash of loving his country so much. Thank you for recognizing the importance of ones culture and the beauty that comes along with it thru song interpretation.

Hi, Caleb! Thank you for another cool reaction!
Dimash took a pause at the right moment and the effect was great👍
And the most amazing thing is that it is Dimash himself, who creates the structure and strategy of every composition he shows!
He talks about it in his interviews:
"I choose the beginning - subtone, the middle part and the end - culmination of the composition. Then add the instruments where necessary. With the whole idea go to Erlan Beckchurin, my sound director, who assumes everything the way I wish".
Dimash knows how to play on the strings of our heart.

Hello Caleb, Dimash has sung a couple of Celine Dion songs that you could look at one is ALL BY MYSELF and MY HEART WILL GO ON. I watched a couple of videos by Riccardo Polidoro the other night who does her songs too. One I thought that would be perfect for Dimash is I SURRENDER and perhaps her song ALONE. I even went to his channel and put a comment after a new video hoping someone would tell him as he is learning English. Looking forward to your next video a dear from Brisbane Australia.

Apart from his particular voice in multiple tones, Dimash has an emotional power that he knows how to transmit, he would make pebbles cry.
He is beautiful in his sumptuous folk costume, I have shivers !
He had very good teachers with his mom and aunt, he is a complete artist who knows how to play multiple musical instruments.
He is a very endearing boy who reflects a great kindness, the song he sings for his mother is upsetting.
A big thank you for your work and time spent dissecting the songs, you are perfect and the best !

This outfit is also why you should steer clear of the whole show The World's Best. They lied to get him on the show and in 1 episode he was wearing that outfit but sang less than half of another song because they showed zero of this song and they poorly chopped everybody's routines. Hi Caleb,
Dimash is a profesional and you can see and feel it in his voice, presence and performances. He sings the same songs also differently which I like very much. He’s not afraid to sing out of the box. I liked the old saying you told about and great reactions👍👏

Thank you for another awesome Dimash reaction. I greatly enjoy your knowledge of singing combined with your positive attitude. For "Daybreak" reaction, I recommend Dimash's performance of "Daybreak" at his Bastau concert where he powerfully displays the emotion of the song. He was ill for his performance of Daybreak on the singer. It's probably worth learning the backstory of "Daybreak" before reacting to it.

@@CalebColesMusic Don't misunderstand. Even though Dimash couldn't even speak days before his performance of Unforgettable Day on The Singer and had to have an injection in his throat, so he could sing, nobody in the audience knew he was sick. It's Dimash. If he sings, he's amazing.

thank you so much for this reaction, I absolutely adore this song, it's so emotional and beautiful. I love how Dimash delivers the meaning of this tragic story, you can see that he put all his heart and soul into that performance and it had a super special meaning for him since it is a traditional song, he really wanted to share some pieces of his culture with the audience and he continues to that at his concerts

esse instrumento chama-se Dombra ... Ele toca sete instrumentos.

I totally agree with you. Of all the good things about Dimash, I actually love the things he don't do as much. The first song I heard (Singers SOS), I thought he was showcasing (and maybe he was), but he is not showcasing to much. AND..., I love the pauses he is taking. I think he is quiet brave, daring to do those pauses. It make the songs even better.
It's only the greatest artists who dares to pause long enough to maximize the effect of the songs.

Thanks for another great reaction. Your understanding of the artistry of singing adds to our understand of Dimask's abilities. For me it's his ability to convey the deep emotions of the songs that he sings that pulls at my heart. I remember the first time hearing this song (like Adagio) that even without the translation, my heart understood what he was singing.

ThanksCaleb for reacting to this wonderful sad beloved Kazak song. The background instrument players are his friends from Kazakhstan! His instrument is a dombra. Most children learn to play this from a young age! There is another performance of this song from one of his concerts that’s wonderful too! Thanks again!

Hi Caleb, wonderful the way you are keeping your grit up and on going with your song reactions, specially documenting the greatest artist multiple times. I watched many reaction of different people but you are the best! Not at least, I feel like that you’re literally living the moment of the performance in yourself as the singer! I think that is what makes you so awesome and accurately. It will be transparent in your own music and I indeed hope the next album is not to far off. See you, Todd
