The Ride of the Rohirrim is my favorite moment in the books and my favorite scene in Peter Jackson's trilogy. In fact it's my favorite scene from any movie ever.

What I love so much about Rohan is that you never see Anglo Saxon inspired fantasy cultures it’s always just Old Norse

    • @Deadly_fox512

Or High Medieval era french/english inspired.

    • @haberak3310
      @haberak3310 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Even in Arthurian inspired works, that's more Celtic. The Anglo-Saxons were unfortunate enough to be prominent in the dark part of the dark ages, when writing traditions weren't as strong as during the classical era nor the medieval age to come. That's to say we have nothing of them, but more that they were too late to be legends and too early to be consequential history in their own right.

Gondor and Arnor may be the greatest kingdoms of men, but I doubt they could claim to be as proud and honorable as Rohan, not to mention as badass.

Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers,
I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.
A day may come when the courage of men fails,
    when we forsake our friends
and break all bonds of fellowship,
but it is not this day.
An hour of wolves and shattered shields,
when the age of men comes crashing down,
but it is not this day!
    This day we fight!!
By all that you hold dear on this good Earth,
I bid you stand, Men of the West!!!

Love your analysis of Tolkein's work, Yoystan. You seem to have channeled his mind. This is also evident with your final words, which are so insightful. You always either add something of value to the story, or you find hidden value in Tolkein's stories. Keep up the great work - we just love it.

I think my favourite moment of Rohans history, is when Theoden grabs his sword and thereby awakes from his lethargy. I dont see violence as a good way to solve your problems, but this moment can be translated into our lives too.
You know, sometimes in life we have to compromise and we accept those things that bother us but we cant change just in that moment. And we get used to this state where we just dont enjoy getting up in the morning anymore until the moment comes when you realize that you got enough and you have to commit your energy to fix all that crap.
Theoden had this moment of awakening when he grabbed his old sword and remembered his own strength.
Ofcause the moments when Rohirim riders rolling up the flanks of enemy armies are also great.

For anyone else wondering, I did a little extra research and the setting of that module takes place in TA 2946 (5 years after the events of the The Hobbit) And Fengel was 76 years old and still king of Rohan until his death in TA 2953 when his son, Thengel, came back from Gondor. Fengel is Théoden's grandfather.

She almost gave up on love, but found it in an unlikely place.

Thank you for this video! Very informative! probably my favorite Rohan moment in history comes from the Two Towers film. At the battle of Helm's deep in the morning when Aragorn and Theoden ride out. When Gandalf appears and Eomer is right behind him and says, "Not alone! Rohirrim! To the King! from that moment to when they go crashing into the Orc army. is so stirring I get goosebumps just thinking about it! Such Loyalty and honor. In the Book when Eomer lays his sword at Theoden's feet after his release from jail just speaks volumes about Eomer and the best of the Rohirrim! Just beautiful!

Eorl the Young died in battle. Brego died of grief after his son died (walking into the Paths of the Dead on a dare). Aldor had war, but died peacefully in old age. Fréa, Fréawine, and Goldwine all had peace and prosperity. Déor had war, but I don't believe that he died in battle. Nothing is said of Gram. Helm Hammerhand died in battle, as did his sons, bringing an end to that line.
Fréaláf Hildeson ruled next, followed by Brytta. Walda died in an orc ambush, not battle as such. Folca died hunting boar. Folcwine's two eldest sons died in battle helping Gondor, but the king himself did not. Fengel was not a good king. Thengel moved to Gondor in his youth, and won honour there, returning to Rohan to be king when his father died. Théoden Ednew died in battle on the Pelenor Fields, his only son Theodred having predeceased him at the Fords of Isen. Thus ended the second line.

The scenery from the ROTK, in Pelennor Field, was a sight to behold. Theodon calling his horse-lords to ride to their 'death' and 'ruin'. And then horn blows, men screamed 'death' two times, charging the enemy to help Gondor. Of course, that's the movie.
Reading a book is different from the movie, but still, Peter Jackson was smart adding some quotes and sun-setting scenery. It has always been in my mind.

Nice video! Love how you always have a moral at the end. This video also makes me wonder what would've gone differently in the story if Theodred survived the fords of the Isen. perhaps that could be a future video?
