    I can not remember ever hearing ANYTHING good about HOA's. EVER! I know how and why they are supposed to be a good thing, but the headaches don't seem to be worth it. My grandparents live in a nice neighborhood. They keep it that way by volunteering to help new residents get it up to snuff. After that it's up to them.

    Less bad than most.
    They authorized me to install a 6' privacy fence. I did. They then said the HOA only allows 4' fences and demanded I take the original down. I had everything in writing, including their approval of the 6' fence on multiple occasions. Told them 'take me to court'. Never heard from them again.

    Lived in a HOA once (once!), and decided NEVER AGAIN! Senseless rules, nincompoops when it came to rectifying construction-related issues (leaking metal roof, meaning indoor leaks to follow), and wanting $25,000.00 to fix said issues. Really?! Sold the thing and never looked back. Not my monkey, not my circus!

    This kinda stuff is why I'd never live anywhere with a HOA, we planted a memorial tree sapling in our garden years ago and when our neighbour said " as long as it doesn't grow much bigger " I replied "one, it's a tree, it's going to be larger and two, more to the point it's In our garden and non of your business, if you're not happy about it, you're welcome to tell someone who cares. " and walked away. Respect people's space as you'd like them to respect yours.

Im glad we don't have anything like them in my country, how can a bunch of random people in your street dictate where and what you can park in your driveway, what color car you can drive, what times you are allowed to open your blinds, what decibal your children are allowed to speak in, designated bin out to the curb times. Required to build/demolish extentions. All dictated by a couple of people in your street 😂😂

    Now imagine living in a SMALL TOWN that is passing ordinances that make them like an HOA. Yeah, that's the situation we're in. They are also skirting the line of legality for some of their actions. State ombudsman has said they are TECHNICALLY legal, but not ethical. I don't think our mayor & some other council members are going to get another term......at least I hope not....

      They’re meant to make sure the properties are maintained to keep property values from falling. But too often they’re run by people who let that speck of authority go to their heads. Residents should quit tolerating such behavior and vote them off the board.

    • @CatsOverBrats
      @CatsOverBrats หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@doctorwyvern9992 My parents had some neighbors running around trying to get signatures in the 80's to stop a house from being transformed into a home for handicapped people. "It will tank the values of our homes to have such a place here", they said. They refused to sign. And wouldn't you know it? Nothing tanked. Prices kept rising as the years passed just like any other places. Most people don't care to look at neighbors' houses and gardens. They only care about their own and how they want to live there. HOAs are working on that fear and in the end, no one cares if their neighbor's house is painted orange or if they prefer tulips over roses.

    My friend’s lake side gated community HOA board screwed up and broke the law. Under the state law, all HOA development common area infrastructure must have open bids and a minimum of three independent contractors. The HOA bylaws also say the same.
    The board let one of their scummy relatives rebuild the waterfront docks, which were destroyed by a flood from heavy rainfall that June. The docks were not built to county code nor were any permits taken out, and therefore unsafe to use.
    A couple trying to install a hydraulic boat lift could not get theirs to properly fit on their boat slip on the docks, a county building inspector checked up on this, reported it, and now the HOA board and property management company are facing a class action lawsuit.
