Man I really appreciate that you're not one of the elitist repair people that get super upset when homeowners or other mechanically/electrically inclined people attempt to resolve their own issues. You're polite and helpful, and you clearly understand that homeowners aren't trying to sabotage you before you show up. Many of these folks are just trying to save what little money they have and fix their own problems if possible. Kudos, brother.
Thank you for your contributions to the plumbing, heating, and cooling profession. This has helped me improve my skills and boost morale. Keep up the cool videos and helping others stay sharp !!
Season's greetings from Canada, Steve. Our temperature today is -28C with windchill of -35C. With all the things learned from you I keep our 95% efficiency furnace in good working order keeping us warm.
Been a service guy for awhile and never thought to put a vacuum on the pipe and blow out any debri awesome trick thanks Steve for all your awesome videos
It's amazing Steve, how all your years of experience pays off, simple fix for you and you make the other dude shine! Class act friend, Merry Christmas, remain blessed 🙌
We had sewer gas in our elementary school restrooms, the kids were going on the roof and filling the vent stacks with the ballast off the roof. They also make caps for this situation .
My favorite preschool calls is when the toilets for the whole school wing are backing up into the building and everyone swears no baby wipes are going down the toilets. One of these days I’m going to leave the wad of wipes we pull out on the snake in a zip lock bag taped to the wall for proof.
Happy holidays Steve, before I retired I work for the city in Detroit and came across a lot of sabotage on the job. Most of the time we had to work with what we had, if I had a switch with that type and the connection was broken off I would take the tip of a exacto knife break it off and was able to stick it in where the connection broke off. I hope this helps you never know when the trick will come in handy, best regards Wolfie
lol, I was expecting a dead Rat ... when I moved a low return duct in my mothers house in what was our downstairs playroom as kids I found dozens of toys from the 50-60's ... worst part was I think I dropped most of them in there ; ) .... well Steve, you found the issue fast and gave him the "shine" and a few laughs .... have a Merry Christmas and give Molly a scratch on the head from us !
Great bit of diagnostics and repair Steve. Happy Christmas. Thanks for all the videos. Might be better to put 4/5 foot onto that exhaust to get it away from the playing children. It would also allow intake to be risen from the ground.
Absolutely amazing! I have a nephew that used my VCR as a garage for his Hot Wheels car when they came to visit once, the wife said it won't load my workout tape, I opened up the door and bingo there was the car...
Steve, I will give you a tech tip for once. Use your manometer and check the inches of WC on the hose going to the pressure switch from the inducer. It should be roughly double what the pressure switch is rated for. If its not, then you have a blockage in the exhaust pipe. I can usually troubleshoot a system like that within 15 minutes.
Didn't expect the kiddy toys. They always have birds in them. Quick diagnosis with unglued and too bad when you got to fix one thing just to figure out what's really wrong with it, but you'll have that. You are very entertaining; in case no one has told you lately. And again, I say! OMG Miss Molly! You sure are a cutie patootie.
I hate the exhaust system on a 90, that's exactly what you wanna do, pop the pipe off and see if she lights. I love how you are calling it a clogged pipe the whole time. Hahahaha the kids clogged it. Literally made me bust out laughing.
25:16 Congrats to your daughter Steve for becoming a Front-end Manager at Lowe's. I'm a cashier at Lowe's been with the company for a year going to be 2 year's on September 8th!. I work at the Frisco Store in Texas!.
Yep, seen that one before and of course it was a daycare house. You are lucky you were able to blow it out if the put rocks down the PVC venting you might have to cut it apart. I have wondered if a Pipe Snake would ever have to be used. Good Job Steve.
Steve you need to get a digital manometer.. you could save a lot of time trouble shooting pressure switch ,vent pipes, heat exchangers , exhaust - ventor motor and others.. Normally pressure switch don't go bad
Great troubling shooting skills as usual, repairs, and explanations. Also good video as usual explaining your steps to the final repair. But what stood out for me is when you said " screwed glued and tattooed " I have not heard that saying in decades :). Also love your dog !
First thing to do is remove intake pipe and then try the furnace. One poor guy had his 3" intake pipe blocked with leaves showed him. He paid the bill. Week later came back. He put a white nylon stocking over the inlet pipe on the out side of house. It was raing that day stocking got wet, yup, no heat. Removed stocking it worked. Felt sorry for him, no charge for the 5 minuted call. Nice video, just brought memories.
that reminds me when I was 3 or 4 in day care; the neighbor would watch 8 or 10 of us, and they had an oil burning boiler to heat the house. out back, us kids were really interested in the oil filler pipe for some reason, I think because it had a metal cover on top that was hinged, so you could lift the cover up and fill it with oil. anyways, we stuffed all kinds of things down the pipe, like sticks and rocks and a few glasses of kool aid. needless to say, they weren't too happy in the fall when it was heating season and all that stuff was in the tank and pipes!
Great video! But something is bothering me about the location of the exhaust vent location! Apparently that area is a sort of ~playground area~ and anytime the furnace cycles on, carbon monoxide is spewing out,, until the temp. in the house satisfies! If those children are playing in that area regularly,, especially on quiet breeze-less days,, they may be harmed!!! Steve said that that house is like a day-care and someone needs to look into this!!!!!!! PLEASE STEVE!!!
I have had two this season so far , one was a cigarette pack and the other was 2 rubber duckies lol . Before I replace a pressure switch i always put my manometer on the ventor . Merry Christmas Steve
Steve, my son is in the cold northeast like you are. When he had a new system installed I questioned not having some kind of cover over those vents. They refused to install those caps because there is humidity that exits there. They claim during the winter those caps will eventually ice over and block the vents. I too was afraid of critters entering those vents.
Great idea to use the vacuum. That combustion intake is some BS. Manufacturers spec is probably above Anticipated snow level. I’d repipe that myself. Anyway I’m retired now from the gas company in Vermont. No more on call. Life in Florida is awesome
So based on my understanding of these furnaces, the higher the efficiency the more the likelyhood of condensate being present in the exhaust? The only part I didnt understand when reading up on furnaces was why 140 was the magic temperature for whether or not condensate would be present, wouldnt it be boiling point? Or is 140 the point that water evaporates more quickly or something? Idk, this is interesting to read about.
Nothing to do with temperature, and it's not 140 degrees. It's a negative 1.40 pressure switch. Inducer creates a negative pressure on inlet side which must be greater than -1.40 inches WC in order for pressure switch to close. The exhaust gasses are cooled below dew point in secondary heat exchanger. That's where the water comes from and it is sent down through the trap and out the drain.
Dear Steve. the Day care centre probably started as a large house, then made into a day care centre. I would lift the intake & exit ports to bring it up to standard. the intake port is all ready sucking moisture into the unit rusting out the chamber, Having an exhaust port at at child height is enough to have the childcare centre shut down is the gas Co2 entering the playground aria. or you may install a new unit when it fails next time. I love watching you solve problems, Mis Molly & the Chooks the only GIRLS allowed to give you any cheek, love the VAN it sounds like a CHARFCUTTER. Happy New Year. Good health from Australia 38C today.
I did a pm at a place once all the units were working got a call 3 weeks later that none of them were working. went back out and they had put a new roof on and the roofer cut all 3 pvc vent pipes to put the boots on. took me some looking to figure that out.
I'll bet, that was the first time you found a dinosaur in the pipe!😅🤣 Happy holidays! 🥃🥃🍺🍺🍺🏌🏻♀️🎯 Stay safe. Retired (werk'n)keyboard super tech. Wear your safety glasses!
I remember when i was a kid dropping handfulls of dirt town the drain vent outside of the landry room at my parents house. Would back up and make muddy water. Wasnt my fault, i was making chocolate milk. =)
I had to bail his sorry ass out 🤣🤣🤣 You sure got a way with words 😂😂😂 Good entertainment ... We need it more than ever now a days ... Thx for sharing 👍🎅🎄🕎
I love how Steve repeats things over and over when talking about a problem, its hilarious.
Same 😆😅🤣

When he’s brazing a pipe and keeps singing “burnin down the house” the whole time……funniest thing ever

horses and dinosaurs

I loved the phone call, two guys bustin each other's balls! Lol.

Plastic fibers in personal and disposable household cleaning wipes should be illegal, in my opinion.

I found a duck on top of the heat exchanger during an annual service. I was like what the duck?!! LOL
amazon sells a cheap scope that connects to your phone , has a light at the end, helped me troubleshoot this exact same situation

They should run both the pipes up the wall higher out the reach of the kids and snow! 👍
Agreed, no real need for a screen then.

it should roughly be double the rating unless its a trane/american standard. they dont get double the reading
My electronics repair shop in the 1990's kept getting computer floppy drives from a daycare center with those flat toy pieces inserted inside.

Some manufacturers void the warranty if you put any sort of cap over the exhaust or intake
They will ice over in cold climates especially if the wind hits that side we'll even have pipes freeze over without them
@@MrBrioke 100% we Never put anything screens on and this is very true that warranty can be voided if so
It’s true, and it’s a shame because it’s the obvious solution to critter control, but it risks causing major issues.

Just a though you can change the micro switch. 3mm screws to replace the rivets.

I'm sure the exhaust dissipates quickly, but it's weird to discharge it into a play area for little kids... right at face level for them.
Next they'll be sticking the garden hose in there.

@ Steve Lavimoniere either that heat exchanger has been replaced or that secondary heat exchanger is leaking or inducer motor leaking.
I had kids putting rocks down a exhaust, had a company try to sell this lady a new furnace over it..unit was 5 years old
Had a no heat way back kid's flooded a Lennox Pulse heat exchanger that was fun
I have had the same problem. stumped until I thought little kids and a open pipe!!!. I put a downturn elbow on with a screen.
Got to love them kids.🤦♂️🤣 nice find Steve.👍
