Can you please give me the dimensions of the underneath channel at the bottom of the container. We are building a container and I think my boss made a mistake
I live in Thailand. Containers are not commonly used as houses here. Most of them are used as temporary offices, but I will build a container house myself. Thank you for the good knowledge 🙏
To my knowledge, choosing to use a container as a living space is a decision not made with money in mind but strictly because it looks nice and it's a cool idea, stacking a bunch of "bricks" to make a house. Don't dive in with the wrong assumptions: It's not ecological (you should not use old decommissioned containers, at least for something you intend to be a living space), it's not necessarily economical (check your local prices and try making some estimates, then look at other options and compare), and it comes with its unique challenges (these videos contain plenty of information covering those). Container offices are popular and practical because they're easy to set up for something like a construction company with trucks on call and there are companies that produce and rent them. Container homes aren't really popular anywhere, even for making sheds and garages the typical choice is finding other types of wood and metal prefab kits, though that is not to say they aren't cool and you shouldn't try it. If I didn't think they were neat I wouldn't be here, just settle your expectations.
I was a welder and fabricator for a long time and I can say that this gentleman is really know what he’s doing. I wish I have a space for this container. Thanks!
Thank you. That means a lot given I'm a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) by trade and learned everything the hard way on my own alongside some great welder/fabricator employees.

So glad TH-cam recommended this channel as we're seriously thinking about a shipping container tiny house for our future.
Thank you Alan. You're a smart man! Each product is very front-loaded with engineering/design and prototyping costs. A lot of what we have developed was meant to assist ourselves in installing windows, doors & roll up doors as quickly as possible in Canadian winters with no painting required. What resulted is kits that are Do-It-Yourself worthy. I'm excited for you to watch our videos on our bolt-on double-wide kits (16'x20' and 16'x40' containers!)

Well thought out process. The window process is the simplis. You guys should have classes in Missouri. Personally I prefer jean or wool insulation. And have an egress window. Over all, great video.
Nice work guys. I put a 4.6 m slide door in one and the roof sagged. I noticed the ridges and valleys at the header spread out so I stich welded a 50X50X6mm angle iron along the head to the inside to stop the corrugations (ridges & valleys) from speading and it worked. I set a slight positive camber in there as well.
I love the track system for supporting desks and pipe racks etc. You could even use it with track roller attachments to a make a gantry crane right down the center of the roof of the container.
We have a 20'HC in our yard right now with a gantry crane down the middle using this strut system. I could do a quick video tour of it if anyone's interested. It's pretty sweet.

Thanks very much for the info! I'm in a sub-tropical humid climate with lows around 40 Fahrenheit and highs around 95 Fahrenheit. A quick online search has recommended for my area to have walls minimum R2 and celling minimum R4. If I can customize the height of my prefabricated container frame, what would be a good height to allow for the floor and celling insulations and still have a spacious feeling?
No such thing as a spacious feeling inside a shipping container. Don't insulate your container for space. Insulate it for your health. Use 2" of closed cell spray foam and steel stud framing. Anything porous will mold and affect your health.
Yes, if someone notices their container beginning to rust, they should address it. We typically modify new containers and work really hard to not poke any holes or weld on them which is what starts the rusting process.
Traditionally, lumber garage packages have always been so cheap. Covid pricing is changing that nowadays where they may be Merritt to container garages. Our 20' x 16' double-wide kit would be great for this application. The biggest advantage is that they're portable. Relatively inexpensive if one utilizes the existing container doors but not very usable . Would get pricier if we had to install a regular overhead garage door centered on the 16' end. Maybe I'll build one and do a video on it. Need a customer😉
@@TheContainerGuyTV I see the homes with fixed glass installed onto the door itself. Amazing. Yes I have been wondering about the door widths. Here in New York State nothings that reasonable. We have building codes and this helps alot. I actually like well constructed buildings. Just wondering if NY State has allowed any of these to be built? I really love the idea of a sort of cabin summer community. Or either starter homes or retirement. Good for both. I'm enjoying the videos. I've previously built three homes...but years ago. Older and single now. Wishing for a playful other half with a heart for construction. I like houses. Looking forward to your garage video.
No way to contact you on your website or on your main TH-cam page, so here goes. Are the prices quoted on your website with the container included or just the upgrades? Thanks.
A friend of mine had his shipping container sprayed with foam insulation, but it's making the container inhabitable from off gassing. What can he do to cure it?
I was doing some Googling before I spray foamed my basement and heard of a few instances like this. Supposedly this can happen if the contractor doesn't build out the foam in small enough lifts. If it is still off-gassing, that means a chemical reaction is still going on and my guess is the reaction is triggered by exposure to air. They need to stop the chemical reaction to stop the off-gassing. I imagine sealing the foam with a suitable product would be the best option to stop the chemical reaction. There is many rubberized roofing products meant to cover spray foam. Option 2 of removing the foam would be impossible and I imagine it'd be cheaper to start over with the mod. Another thing to look at (in any living space) is an (apartment sized) HRV air exchanger with HEPA filter.

So many garages are needed. And these are secondarily useful as storm safety buildings ...highly practical I think
Can you convert a container into an RV and it pass inspection? If so do you have a video of this conversion?
It's waaaay too heavy to be practical for that. You'd end up with an RV that is 3-4 times heavier
Is it really cheaper to build with containers vs wood ? I am curious to compare the price of the same space ! do you have any numbers ? :)
This is pretty brilliant. Great work.
