    Great video. I've been involved in raising birds ever since I was a younger kid and my sister got me involved in it, and I continued when she moved away.
    I've taken a break, but this year I really want to start over and actually make money out of them. Probably starting small with just a few and expanding over time, I'm hoping to start with some babies from a hatchery this year, then next year hatching eggs from them, raising the birds til they're around 3-6 months old, then selling them as pullets and cockrels. I know you covered that partially in this video, but any specific tips for the newbies to profiting?

    • @Alexarmer
      @Alexarmer  āļ›āļĩāļ—āļĩāđˆāđāļĨāđ‰āļ§

      I would see a good opportunity to profit on birds right now because of the shortage. I don’t personally have much experience in selling young pullets, but I wish you the best!

    Love your channel and your most colorful flock. Where do you buy your chicks from? As adults they are beautiful! Also what is you personal opinion about Rhode Island as far as children and co mingling with other breeds in a mixed flock such as yours? Just curious...I have heard and read so many different opinions regarding Rhode island Reds. Thanks. Enjoy the weekend.

      @Alexarmer  āļ›āļĩāļ—āļĩāđˆāđāļĨāđ‰āļ§ +1

      I get most of them from Mcmurray Hatchery or Myer Hatchery online. Rhode Island reds can sometimes be aggressive towards other birds in a new flock, but give them some time or integrate them when they are young and you’ll be fine. Thanks for watching

    For some reason my chickens lay way more in the winter that’s weird but they won’t go broody and I’m tryna hatch out some chicks any advice?

    • @Alexarmer
      @Alexarmer  3 āļ›āļĩāļ—āļĩāđˆāđāļĨāđ‰āļ§ +1

      Same here, chickens prefer the cold to the high heat. They will usually lay more consistent in the spring and fall. I’d just try to let nature do it’s thing with the broody hens, or maybe separate here with a rooster so she forms her own private nest. Thanks for watching

      It really depends on your location and your eggs, here I could only get $4 max for a dozen eggs, but someone I know in California can sell them easily for $8. Thanks for watching

      I agree. Stop selling your eggs so cheap! If people don’t want to pay a higher price, it means that they aren’t your customers. It’s all about knowing who’s you’re customer.

    How big of a pen is needed for 50-60 chickens

    • @Alexarmer
      @Alexarmer  2 āļ›āļĩāļ—āļĩāđˆāđāļĨāđ‰āļ§ +1

      I’d recommend at least a 3000sq ft pen for layers, if you want them to still have a bit of grass and cleanliness. Of course much smaller like 1500sq feet if you were raising meat birds for a couple months. And to be classified as free-range it would have to be 5500sq feet.
