    I really hope the dog was taken to the vet immediately after this. Clearly she needs a thorough evaluation. And the other dog should be kept away when this happens because he or she is frightened. They don't understand what's happening.

      @@ansnfbsknanssshshbsnsndnd5438 Not at all. I just realize that a pet is not a person but an animal to be loved and cared for. Each one has their own personality and should be cherished. However, I don't think one should keep an animal in distress for their own comfort. Seizures are a serious ailment and we have to make the right decision when it comes to their care.
      We all have a bottom line on what we will spend and my number is $1,000. If I need to spend more, I probably wouldn't on my dog. When I have had to board her in the past, the boarding kennel asked specifically how much to spend on her if she had an issue and they couldn't get in contact with me. I told them $1,000 then and would use the same amount now.
      Is that heartless? Not to me. I've known people who have spent $3K to $4K on their pets and they have told me they won't spend that much again. They care for their animals and the moment the crisis occurred they spent the money. However, they realize that spending that amount on an old animal was for their comfort not the animal. The additional time made them feel better but not the dog.
      My dog is will be 13 years old this year and is sleeping by my feet right now. I took her to the vet two weeks to get a flea/heart worm refill. While at the vet, she had a Gran Mal seizure. This is the third time she has had a seizure in the last three years and they all occurred at the vet. The first two were very mild but the last one was very bad and she was given medication to get her out of the seizure.
      When I brought her home she walked around in circles for half an hour and finally slept for a couple of hours before she got back to normal. If I have to drug her to keep her normal, I don't think it is OK just to have her here for my comfort. I know that it will be difficult for me when I have to make the decision to send her to the Rainbow Bridge. However, as long as I feel that she has was cherished, cared for, and loves I'm OK. I'll go back to the shelter and get a new one again. It won't be the same dog but another one to care for.

    Frustrating that so many pups get seizures like this due to Isoxazoline based flea and tick products. Simparica, Bravecto, NexGard, etc. It's rare, but it can only really be managed through medication. Hope this pup to have more comfortable years of life with you after treatment!

    All you need to do is show your vet this video the next time you bring your pooch for his checkup. Listen to what your vet recommends what you need to do to avoid another seizure line that. Your vet will need additional information regarding your pooch’s health history to help rule out anything and might want to do some testing to see if there is anything that causes inflammation of the brain due to infection, viral or anything else that might be causing some problems. Hope this helps. Sometimes the conditions might be some genetic conditions or something resulting by a parasite. But let’s see what additional information the vet might provide to you. Also make sure that the vet check out the temperature of the dog, as well as his heart rate, including his oxygen level. I did notice he was panting unusually laboriously, just after his seizure.

    As a prior vet tech…I strongly suggest you take the dog to be seen. Most common cause is inherited. Could also be kidney failure, toxins, liver disease… epilepsy…brain tumor…etc. Do not put it down unless there is not other means to help it and you hit a wall and all treatment has failed. Best of luck.

    The best thing to do is take a video of the seizure,and if possible try get them on a soft surface so they can’t hurt them self , the seizure doesn’t last long , normally 30 seconds to a minute, by no means should you try pick up or stop your dog when they are having a seizure. It’s dangerous for you and the dog.

      @@Marina-cl1fq agreed! My boxer did something similar to this dog, and it turned out that he was having a heart attack, not a regular seizure. He was seen by a vet immediately afterwards, and diagnosed with a severe heart problem. Thankfully, I was able to film the episode when it happened so my vet was able to see exactly what happened, and was then able to examine the dog and put the dog on some medication‘s to help control the problem. It is not always epilepsy. Other problems can factor into a dog having a seizure. The best thing that a person can do, is stay calm, and film the episode, and then take the dog to the vet as soon as possible. The dog may need some medication to control the issue that is causing it to have what appears to be a seizure.

      Unless someone is very experienced with this, where to hold, how much pressure to hold, etc, can very VERY frequently turn into resentment because the dog will attack and cause grievous harm to someone not-confidently holding the dog in place. And holding too hard can suffocate the dog. Wrapping a blanket over isn't always the answer as well, because that can lead to overheating and brain damage.

    • @charlamiller3900
      @charlamiller3900 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very easy to actually cause more problems. Simply have to NOT try to hold dog, Can NOT stop the seizure. So put folded blanket or something under dogs head cause, man that dog did whack it's head several times.

      BUNK...having had a daughter who had seizures and then sheltie. Soothing them during a seizure is recommended. We got both on a very specialized diet that prevented them. A neurologist wanted to med her up out the wazoo, and same with the Vet. I went the nutritional route, and used alternative medicine. TCM and acupressure. My dog lived HAPPILY for until she was 16, no other issues unless exposed to the wrong food. I kept her away from rosemary that they started putting in dog foods and treats which is BAD for many breeds. The neurologist told me nothing could be done but meds. Proved that certified pharma endorsed quack WRONG as well. ALWAYS seek options.
