I've lived in the city for over 70 years - three tips - 1) best view of the harbour and the river is from the platform of the Nicolai church from which only the burnt out ruins from WW II are left. The ticket for the ride to the visitors platform includes the visit to a small underground museum.. 2) best view over the inner city and the Alster is from the tower of the St. Petri church but be warned, there is no elevator and there are many steps!! 3) a bit of a strange tip - if you stay in the city for more than 3 days or so - visit Ohlsdorf cemetery. It's one of the biggest cemeteries in the world and from the beginning it has been planned as a park like place with hundreds of different types of trees and bushes. Just quiet beautiful nature!
So far the best video I've seen on Hamburg. The more I notice that also here in this great video the Außenalster and Blankenese are missing. I recommend a canoe tour on the canals of the city. Then you notice why Hamburg has more bridges than Venice, Amsterdam and London together. I would really go once completely around the Außenalster (8 km) and order an Aporol Spritz at the Alsterperle with a beautiful view over the lake to the city center and the church towers. One touches the numerous beautiful villas of Harvestehude, Winterhude and Uhlenhorst. Also a bicycle tour along the Alsterwanderweg to the Locks and back are wonderful. You are in the middle of the city and always in the green. This is a completely different world and unique for a city of millions. In the city center there are also the largest inner-city moors in Central Europe. Nature and water, but also urbanity - everywhere! The Elbtunnel is also great. In addition, there are the Elbe beaches between the fish market and Blankenese with a stop at the beach pearl. Maybe a second part? 🙂
In the year 2000, Frederik and Gerrit walked into the Hamburger Savings Bank and asked for a one million euro loan to build a large model railway. Although their business plan was only written down on two sheets of paper, the bank manager was impressed and the loan authorised. It has always been a forward thinking city.
And if you're a transport fan....Hamburg is a fantastic place to visit. It has U-Bahns, S-Bahns, regional and long distance trains galore, plus virtually non-stop freight trains at the wonderful Hamburg- Harburg station. I've been twice and enjoyed every minute!
It's one of our favourite cities in the whole world! We definitely had to wrap up warm in February, but it was worth it to explore this amazing place. :)
I've been to Hamburg twice and I'm thinking of going again in 2020. Thanks for this great video, it really helped me narrow down the things I may want to do next time. The camera work of this video is amazing btw :)
@@vineettiwari8124 I'm german and live in Germany so it's not as bad as travelling internationally but don't worry - I've decided against travelling at all this year because of corona. Time to stay home!
Cat I live in Spain and have just got back from a week in Vienna and a week in Berlin and it wasn't as bad as I thought it whould be, you just have to fill in passenger location forms on entry to Germany, take the covid test in Germany and fill in another passenger location form wen returning to Spain. I am going to hamburg next June can you reccomend things to do, thanks Richard.
@@rupert-j8f Hi Richard. Traveling for tourist reasons is not allowed anymore in Germany (or at least Bavaria where I am) at the moment because we are in the start of a lockdown. I really wouldn't recommend traveling a lot at the moment anyway as it may put the locals of the places you're visiting at risk. anyway as far as recommendations for Hamburg: go to the top of the Elbphilharmonie, from there you can see the whole city. Also the Japanese gardens are pretty and the "Altstadt" is lovely to walk through.
I think the main point is that 2 days by far are not enough for Hamburg. There is soo much more. Reeperbahn is not the only street to visit in St. Pauli, then Schanzenviertel, Altona, Blankenese, the fish market and hall (if on the weekend), the city hall, the Aussen- and Binnenalster (e.g. canoeing through the little canals there) and and and.
Sweet can’t wait!🙌 Maybe the Basque Country, More Nordic country’s is always good too, Also wouldn’t be Irish if I didn’t recommend exploring the rest of the island 😉😂
What a great video, love the vibes. And the cinematography!!! What cameras did you use for these shots? Enjoyed the video a lot, thanks for the experience.
Nice video. I have studied at Hamburg university for a couple of years. And I liked more other parts of Hamburg then the ones you show.... I won't tell which. Too much tourism is never good, especially I don't like people with a "Bucket List". Sounds so superficial and unmature. [Add]: And instead of eating a "Hamburger" you shoud have tried a fish roll (best roll with herring and onions). That is really Hamburg, more than a Hamburger. 🙂
st. Nicolai looks surreal in person. Shame that it was damaged during wwll. In a park we watched the Euro cup we could see giant cement gun towers 5 stories over head. It was a cool experience. And Heidi park , the beer gardens, its worth a travel to Hamburg.

Наш Гамбург самый красивый, люблю его 😊
I went for the Christmas markets and it is my favourite place in the world. I can’t describe how happy I felt.
Been there for 3 days last summer and i felt in love! Going again in December and then again in the summer of 2020!
U still coming in summer 2020?😂

15:44, the Schanzenviertel would have been a very good guess as well, less crowded but not worse at all.
Awsome job! Narrating, filming, editing, and choice of music. Superb!
Thank you very much!
Love this! So informative. Also great mix between fun and casual holiday blog and professional travel guide.
Thank you so much for this nice and colourful portrait of Hamburg's nicest sides! 🤗

Hamburg is one of our favorite cities here in Germany - it's only way too cold in the winter :D Greetings from Bianca & Thomas

Such a great video mate! And your pronounciation of Speicherstadt sounds really like we say it in Bavaria and Austria :)

How did you commute to all these places. Public transport or do we need a car
Public transport and a lot of walking!
Public transport is much easier than a car.
Damn that video is beautiful.

Hamburg is nice to visit, living there becomes boring after a couple of years
That's a shame, we were there for a week and had a great time! Any tips for anyone looking to visit?
No living here is great!
why?
I living in hamburg for 11 years now and i never felt so comfortable and free in a city. I just have to watch myself, doing not to much party
@@r.mcdichnich1979 why not much party?
How can zoos be nice to see when the animals (like the forced* dancing elephants) are locked in for their lives?🙄
Informative. But telling how beautiful it is but mostly showing your face is not sooooo interesting ;)
