Just hit level 10 and had no idea what I was doing. In the tower one I was inking the squares on the floor haha. Thank so much for the video that collects it all together!
To elaborate on Splat Zones, you must paint 70% of the zone to cap it, and 50% to neutralize it. For the penalty, it's a bit more complicated. You take the number of points your team started with when they first controlled the zone, including penalties(start), and the number of points you have when you lost control(end). With these values, do start - end, and then take that value and find 75% of that number, and that's your penalty. It's very complicated and the game's algorithm does that for us, so just know that the longer you hold the zone, the bigger your penalty will be, and that's about it.
11:14 "and its rare to get a knockout in a single push, especially on certain maps where the basket is in an awkward position, an example being goby arena" LOL I went from 60 with penalty of 20 to 0 in 1 push on goby arena just yesterday! great vid btw
Good job! Huge pushes like that on maps such as goby are certainly possible, but I find clams the most stalemate inducing mode out of the 4, and unless you have good team coordination its going to be hard to get a good push going
While I do enjoy every ranked mode, some are way more enjoyable with friends since I like playing more communication, makes for great plays, great informative video!
Good luck on your channel when ya start! I wouldn't worry too much about your splatoon skill, you don't have to be amazing to still make great content!
Not all map-modes are equal, some are better than others. Here are some rule of thumbs for what makes a good map for a particular mode and can help critique map-mode combinations. Splat zones - Small maps; Should take little time to retake/get to the zone Rainmaker - Large maps; Should NOT take significantly less than 8-10 seconds (before players can respawn) to bring the rainmaker from mid to pedestal following a wipe. Tower control - Any map so long as the tower is NOT moving away from enemy spawn nor into long areas where no contention can take place. (I'm looking at you kelp dome) Clam blitz - Any map where the basket is near spawn and there are NO easy to grab clams near it In general, having easy knockouts is a terrible thing because 1. it's unfair for the losing team that made one mistake or had a small disadvantage and 2. it's not interesting nor exciting for the viewers. These rule of thumbs help prevent easy knockouts from being frequent. They are not entirely concrete but are guides for determining the quality of each map in relation to a mode.
I ffel like the rainmaker free zone is the most misunderstood concept of all of splatoon, I've seen people(or squids and octopi, i should say) take the rainmaker to a rainmaker free zone like it was nothing, and I even told what the rainmaker signs to a youtuber and he just knew. Even I don't fully understand, since I don't know if the signs say exit or enter.
I meant in how easy the mode is to understand and play as a beginner, also Japanese lobbies are a pain, especially when they are laggy and you are playing a weapon that requires aim
great stuff in general here on the channel! my only complaints are that for people who aren't too good at speaking english, those could have a hard time understanding your text when there are parts that are spoken very fast (at least i had some problems here and there to understand what you said by only the audio). either trying to speak a slight bit slower and more clearly could fix this, or you could put captions or subtitles with the text somewhere in the video for people to read. and the other thing i would like to see in a rather complicated guide like this, is some transitions and maybe graphics to not only have audio and video to be pretty much disconnected and distracting each other from the point your are trying to make potentially... i mean, this is obviously up to you and i can tell from my own videos that syncing text with graphics and video is crazy hard to realize and also takes a lot of extra time in production, but i invite you to watch some stuff on my channel to see for yourself how much of a difference some other visuals can make in a video guide. other than that, i think you do an awesome job already and even when your audience is not as big yet, it is already bigger than mine and i put mad effort into my content lately :/ (i guess i just have to keep grinding until more people notice me... so please check me out! thanks mate!)
Haha yep, I felt like I couldn't miss a brief overview of turf war out, but the main bulk of the vid is on the ranked modes, so I think the title still fits
My channel isn't monetised, so I can't get copyright claimed, but I think nintendo have laws regarding using their music and such that makes it fine to use. Not 100% sure tho
I may have been playing Tower Control wrong this whole time... Anyways here's my ranking of the ranked modes: 1. Splat Zones 2. Rainmaker 3. Clam Blitz 4. Tower Control lol
Is it worth getting into Splatoon 2 now? I have 300+ hours in the original, and it was great fun with friends, but I immediately quit after buying S2 due to the lack of team queue ranked mode. Have they added this feature back in yet?
Ranked is solo only sadly, but league is basically the same, without the rank meter. Splatoon 1 is great but 2 expands on it in many ways, especially weapon wise. Have you tried out salmon run as well, its a great way to enjoy the game with friends outside regular multiplayer as well
Hi! I don't stream on twitch currently but I may in the future. I apologise for the absence btw, I have a very hectic schedule and I'm struggling to fund time to work on vids
@@InfiniteCaz 1. What moves does the rainmaker have and how do you use it? 2. In splat zones, what happens when neither team has their remaining at zero? 3. In splat zones, does only having one of the two zones start your countdown and does having two increase the rate of countdown? 4. What do the numbers underneath the remaining in splat zones do? 5. What determines how large the penalty is in splat zones and does that add to your remaining? 6. For tower control I am incredibly confused at to what that progress bar is at the top and what the squares on it mean. (What does the "remaining" mean?) 7. I thought the tower stayed at a checkpoint, but you say it goes back to mid? I really could go on but I don't wanna make a whole book of questions right now.
Sure I can answer these! 1.The rainmaker has a powerful blast that you charge up by holding down ZR. It basically acts as an explosion and while powerful is slow 2.If nether counter reaches 0, the winning team is the team that got the counter the lowest after the 5min time period 3. In a double zone game both zones must be inked for the timer to start counting down. If you have 1 zone neither timer moves 4.These are penalty points. If you cap for 50 points say, you will need to cap for the penalty time before you can start scoring points. This is to essentially balance out the game and make kos harder 5. The more points you score, the higher your penalty will be. 6. The squares are what we call checkpoints. When you reach one, you need to wait there for a period of time before the tower will move along the path again. Once you clear the checkpoint you wont have to stop there if you try to push the tower again. 7. The tower will stay at the checkpoint briefly if you are on it, but if you get off the tower or the opposition gets on it, it will move off the checkpoint. Checkpoints are basically used to create chokepoints to prevent quick knockouts Hope this helped!
Double zones are really only good when they are separated far apart. Port mackerel and Moray towers used to have 2 separate zones back in splatoon 1. Now Port mackerel has 1 zone in the middle and Moray tower's splat zones are so close together, they may as well be 1 single splat zone. In other words Nintendo ruined splat zones for those maps because it takes longer to halt the enemy timer allowing it tick further. (having quick easy knockouts is terrible for ranked and tournaments)
I kind of agree with you, but both zones on moray and port were awful in splatoon 1, partly down to the maps but also the zone placement. The zones on moray in S1 were far to small and in awkward positions, it just doesn't make sense for the zones to be positioned away from mid. I personaly don't mind the quick ko's that happen in zones, ad if you are overpowered the match is over quickly and it I think it allows for some awesome intense games
Can we explain why the reef has 2 zones after renovations? Also I LOVE splat zones on camp triggerfish. If they morph it to 1 zone (I don't know how, though) I would never play on camp triggerfish, which I find extremely underated. Seriously, my best matches have been on camp triggerfish.
The main issue with triggerfish zones for me is how hard it is to get back into the zones once you get pushed back. Because the map is very narrow path wise its so easy to be locked out. For me games are either amazing or a trainwreck, and I personally don't like that in a map. I also think they split the reef down into 2 zones as the single one before was quite big and kind easy to keep control of. I think zones makes it easier to stall while pushing back in, although I never minded the reef pre change
It is a splatfest right now, which means only turf war is available! Once it finishes at the end of the weekend, as long as you are level 10 you can play ranked
I like it too, It's also my favourite gamemode and the one that I've been the best at in ranked (got the highest power level with). Though this month has been struggle for me in rainmaker having won 1 out of 10 placement matches due to harsh adversity, by far the worst I've experienced. Yet I still got above 2100. (and yes I am X ranked on this mode in case you haven't figure it out, fun fact it's the first mode that I reached x rank in.)
Just hit level 10 and had no idea what I was doing. In the tower one I was inking the squares on the floor haha. Thank so much for the video that collects it all together!

While I do enjoy every ranked mode, some are way more enjoyable with friends since I like playing more communication, makes for great plays, great informative video!
Yea naturally, winning is always so much better with coordination, but alas not everyone has friends to play splatoon with
Thanks for explaining I just unlocked ranked matches today so this helped a ton
Glad it helped ya!
I already knew all this but its still a good guide for beginners. Splat zones is my personal favorite.
Love your videos, your channel is truly a hidden gem
Yup
Thank you!
She really deserves more subs
Means a lot!
Yup this is so good you should have at least 500k subs tho
Thank you! I have been so confused! The rank matches were confusing to me.
Glad it helped!
Yea this is helpful and I'm watching this right before Splatoon 3 comes out and I didn't really know ranked in Splatoon 2 so this helped!
Awesome, so glad you found it helpful!
Thanks for the video! I'm thinking on starting a channel, but I want to get a lot better first.
Good luck on your channel when ya start! I wouldn't worry too much about your splatoon skill, you don't have to be amazing to still make great content!
yeah! i also suck at splatoon but i still make good content (hopefully^^)
i would like if someone would check it out obviously...
I am so confused about everything you said but you also helped me so much thank you!
Hahaha glad it helped!
great job Caz i hope you aim to crank out more of these videos when we get 3..
very excited
keep it up 😁
Thank you! I'm intending to do these for splatoon 3 as well

It's nice to see more British TH-camrs playing Splatoon.

Haha thank you!

When you enter them, your time with the Rainmaker decreases faster, because the areas are hard for enemies to reach.
I think that splat zones is really hard. Or I only join Japanese lobbies
I meant in how easy the mode is to understand and play as a beginner, also Japanese lobbies are a pain, especially when they are laggy and you are playing a weapon that requires aim
