- Bad endings. I don't know about anyone else, but they terrify me. Just when the hero(es) thought everything was finally right, just when it looked like peace had finally returned to the world, something happens that, at best, creates a bittersweet victory and, at worst, spoils everything and the enemies win, despite everything that happened throughout your adventure. Bad endings don't give you any second chances, you screwed things up for everyone and you must pay dearly...

I love how during the sneaking qte, the phone always rings at the exact time Ryo is under the desk. You would think he wouldn’t get freaked out by the damn phone ring after the 4th time.
Pretty cool how this series doesn't have its own special intro. Makes it special in its own way.
It fits in with this being one of his oldest series.

Considering that there is a segment in Shenmue 2 where Ryo is attacked by someone with a chainsaw (and yes, you can fail it; the screen just turns white and you restart the segment as though nothing happened), Lan Di must already be extremely powerful! That finishing move he uses to kill Ryo's father (and Ryo himself in the bad ending) is one blue beam away from being the Kamehameha from Dragon Ball!

Also, it makes me laugh to think that the warehouse guard's phone rings at the same time every night, and yet Ryo never catches on, and the guard never thinks to report the strange noise he hears every time.

The budget was actually stretched across Shenmue 1&2.
There is one chronological error in Shenmue: Sonic never existed in the 80s. Sega still existed, but that is when Alex Kidd was still the mascot. But this is Sega, so they won’t mind messing with time.

Well dizzy the egg does get killed by a torch in an early episode of the weakest characters in gaming ever but to be fair, this one isn't the same type of torch. Close enough, they have the same name.

I have heard about this game but never bothered to look into it. Oh boy, now I’m absolutely in love with the atmosphere and open world gameplay. Thank you for covering this in creepy bad endings. And thank you for enduring the guards voice in the warehouse mission. It killed me when I recognized that the start of video is the same line that he repeats over and over again.

I feel like the bad dub adds to the whole 'martial arts movie' thing the game has going on.
Also, this game is pretty ahead of its time, especially the budget, overexpensive games are common nowadays, but this was probably absurd back then.

As much as I love this series, I’m one hell of a wuss puss and your creepier vids of this scared me so much I had difficulty sleeping. In case you were wondering, that would be the 16th vid I think, where you were chased by a freaking man with garden shears.

I've always been told that Yakuza is similar to this game. Aside from the open world and minigames, I don't really see it.
It’s not, that’s just something people who haven’t played Shenmue say. Yakuza is a beat em up while Shenmue is more of a story driven game with a fighting game engine.
Lan di and ultimate chimers is nothing compared to torch!

It has really twisting storylines and bad endings
Or just any game in the Megami Tensei franchise.
I love the video. But omg this game was trash (in my opinion) but I'd agrue yakuza had more story than this series. And I dont mean because of multiple games. And yes I know the game is dated but to say it was better than yakuza I feel is crazy.
