Brian, this was absolutely epic! You had me completely absorbed throughout - fascinating. I'm now suddenly interested in the Qabalistic approach tarot. I _still_ don't like the artwork of the Crowley Thoth. Between that and Crowley himself, it ain't going to happen for me. But I am definitely intrigued to add strands of deeper knowledge to my reading. Thank you!

Thank you! I know what you mean about the Thoth deck. I do like it, but there's something about it that stops me from getting REALLY close. That's the great thing about Qabalistic tarot - Crowley isn't the only game in town. Quite a few decks riff off of the Thoth deck (and do so very well) but others pave their own path, like the Gill. Another one worth exploring is Tarot of the Spirit. But that's for another video! 😆

@@BrianCormackCarr Yes, that deck has always repelled me, somehow, and I couldn't for the life of me point to anything specific about it that does so - it's objectively inoffensive, but then we react from subjectiveness. Just not for me, I suppose, but that's ok - plenty of others to explore :) _keeps eye out for further videos_

Even if you don’t explore the Thoth deck, I’d still recommend the DuQuette book. The introductory material on the Tree of Life and the Rosy Cross is just fascinating.

Thanks for this Brian. I have all three decks, and all the necessary books, but have yet to find the motivation to really sink my teeth into more esoteric tarot. I had planned on chatting about Golden Dawn decks, but life interfered last year and this year. So I really appreciate this video!

Thanks! If you do get back to GD chat, I'll definitely be watching with interest! I need to do a video soon on my Golden Dawn Temple Tarot...

WOW. This is *easily* the best Gill Tarot walkthrough on here, and it was great to see the Kabbalistic Tarot too, I'm not familiar with that one. Not only did you show these decks off to great effect, you also provided a good primer on qabalah/kabbalah too. Thanks!

Loud applause, Brian. This is a long video but you packed every minute of it with fascinating information. I just received the Gill deck too, and love it already. (Still awaiting the book.) I studied the Kabbalah years ago and this is bringing it all back. Would love to hear, in due course of time, how you fare with this deck.

Thank you so much for this video and for your understandable explanation of the Kaballah connections. It makes sense, and I appreciate that you took the time to make an intimidating subject feel less daunting. (Also interesting LOL!) I like the keywords on both Thoth & Gill and on other thoth-inspired/based decks. It's intriguing where Gill veered from the Crowley meanings and gives lots of scope for exploration. Just as an aside, your voice was smooth as silk in this video! Your voice is gorgeous, but this video even more than usual. Beautiful vocals. Gentle & calming male voices are welcome right now. So thank you for that! 🙏💙

The good thing about doing these point-of-view videos is that I can have my mouth close to the phone's mic, so it does seem to pick it up better. I may look into a proper mic at some point soon. I've been thinking of upgrading my channel kit! :)

This video is spot on helpful especially since I have all three decks. My 1970's tarot roots stem from Kabbalistic studies which have always supported by learning and understanding of the Tarot. I will be returning to this video again....and again !

What a nice video on the comparisons. Thank you. I really like working with the Thoth and the Hermetic systems. I have the Thoth deck and the Hermetic I just ordered The Gill Tarot deck tonight. I think the system is easier than regular tarot.

I have watched a few other reviews of the Gill Tarot now, and I have to say that yours is head and shoulders above those I've seen so far. I'm disappointed that other readers seem to regard the Gill Tarot as an RWS clone - mentioning that 'some people say it's got something to do with Thoth' and then ignoring that for the rest of the review. It feels like such a wasted opportunity to expand one's horizons!

This is fantastic!! Was just thinking about the 5 of swords in thoth and the keyword "defeat" and how, as a single word it can be taken both ways. "Defeat" as in being defeated or defeat as in to defeat your opponent. (I guess, basically whether it is a noun or a verb as well...) "you will experience a crushing defeat" (noun)." You will defeat the opposition." (Verb)

Great comparison. I like the gill tarot and I think this should be my first pip deck. I never got the toth tarot, but for some reason this one resonates with me. The death card alone is reason enough to buy. Thank you also for reminding me of the kabbalah. And though there is a resemblance, I like you better than that fool 😊

Now I want that Kabbalistic Tarot deck. I already have the Thoth and I also have the Hermetic Tarot. which I love both. So i'm off in search of the Kabbalistic Tarot.

I think these 3 Decks of cards include as the latest phenomenal summary of Tarot and Kabbalah the Tabula Mundi Tarot by M.M. Meleen. She is a great Kabbalistic Okkultismus and summarizes all currents. After all, the Order of the Golden Dawn and thus Edward Waite were Kabbalists in many ways. (Sorry for my Pool Enlish)

Wonderful review... and incredibly interesting!!!! But I still don't get the Queen of Swords vs. King of Swords. That queen is water of air and I'd always think that her watery aspect links to intuition. That's what ''they've'' always told me, dammit!!! =D

I wouldn't use satiety or luxury forn4 of cups... of i had a keyword it would probably be stagnation. Because that's what happens to water (the element of cups) when it's unable to move and flow. Images even seem to represent spoilage. The word choices confuse me.. I think of satiety as having just enough and 4 of cups is like when you're full and offered more... I guess that sort of fits, but I see it more as being discontent and maybe ungrateful because you have **too much** to appreciate anymore.

This was marvelous, Brian. I remember looking at the Thoth tarot a millennia ago and was very disturbed by the images, although now I can't remember why. Perhaps it had more to do with Crowley's teachings. Seeing these three decks together was most interesting. The Gill tarot has been on my list; I've got the book right now, and I'm going through it. I did a walkthrough of the Kabbalistic Tarot ( th-cam.com/video/U5-S-rGsWmQ/w-d-xo.html ) a week or so ago, if you'd like to take a look. So much info packed into your video. Your research always adds so much to your videos. ~Catherine. ☮💜
