They should call this event the "Sprint Drag Lateral Carry Sprint." The creator of the Lateral, Henry T. Lateral, would not be happy his name was left off the title when his exercise is clearly an important part of the event.

@@apachedave tbh that’s a great question. my answer as a D1 athlete would be to harp on the benefits. unfortunately the world has become much more selfish over the years and my generation needs to see the light at the end of the tunnel if they’re going to be serving the country. with that said, promoting this type of training would entice athletes to join bc they know they’d succeed. my dad is retired army, so i’ve grown up in it.

It's very tiring, but honestly overall it's a good experience as long as you don't mind getting yelled at, not being able to rest very much, and being forced to do exercise when you or your buddies make mistakes.

This is BS. I was 5’ 2” 100 lbs in boot camp. I would never get promoted with these standards. This should be used as a motivation training. I picked up a 160 lbs Marine and ran with her down the field but it didn’t affect me getting promoted. That same Marine picked me up and ran down the field at a much faster pace. This should be training for combat not as a physical fitness test that your promotion is based off of.

I totally wish we had this in the 1990s through my retirement in 2016. It would have driven the unfit out of the Army...so long as we could chapter out the Permanent Profiles that couldn't run from their car to a formation or their office desk.
But highly doubt this will last given the "gender neutral" emphasis on Army training because it's so unfair to make "everyone" carry the same load because, you know, not everyone is cut out for this "grunt stuff" and should be able to use their iPhone and social media to outsmart the enemy. So, the Army should make "gender neutral" lighter tires, ammo cans, artillery rounds, sandbags, etc so everyone has a chance to be as good as the the next Soldier.

Just reading today. Gender neutral. I have done a lot of things as the "only female" that are required of the guys. I surpassed a lot of the guys and found myself in the lower upper portion. On the job, I was hired as the only female in the 20 year history of the company in a department due to the "physical strength" required. And, I am a lady (tom-boyish, but a lady). What I am getting at is... I am not sure "gender neutral" is the right answer as there are stronger females than males and vice versa. I am 5'5" and 130 when in top shape (not in shape at the moment, but working on it). Size does not have anything to do with it either. Muscle conditioning, strength, determination, competitiveness, drive... not specifically in that order.
