- After working NAMM 2015 with ultimate guitar, Chris Poland invited me and two friends to his studio to do a interview. Its been a while since I did this interview, I waited to post it because Chris had mentioned to me he wanted to see it first so I held off, but never really got to show it to him, so I decided in the memory of Nick Menza's passing I should post it because he had been mentioned in our conversation. R.I.P. Nick Menza

funny thing is that Chris Poland recorded Holy Wars demo version.
Was Holy Wars actually written that far back that Poland was still in the band?
Not exactly. Dave asked him to join the band again after he fired Jeff Young, but he declined because he was newly sober and didn't want the pressures of touring to cause him to relapse (although he did record lead tracks for some of the RIP demos evidently). Anyway Holy Wars was written around this time.
I wish he would rejoin Megadeth.
Chris Poland is so amazingly talented.
MrEyebrowz Oh most definitely. He was an accomplished jazz guitarist before he ever joined Megadeth. Fusion jazz at that.

The sound chris poland (and gar's fills) added to megadeth during the peace sells era is unmatched. Such an awesome display of thrash metal mixed with poland's jazz/fusion background. Fuckin legends

Great interview. Chris has the recognizable playing style. You can listen to him for 2 seconds and know its him.
Lol there are some moments where it gets a bit awkward! The interviewer should've gotten ready with his questions, Chris looked kinda bored. Anyway thanks for the interview, Chris Poland is one of the best, glad to know more about him.
lol to be honest with you, i dont do this kind of stuff. i just randomly got a job for NAMM and went trying to talk with people i was a fan of, this interview was last minute and it was more improvised then anything, it was just some random experience i put myself in, and chris was down to talk and hang out with me. it was more of a friend conversion. but thanks for suggestion regardless :)

Man, this is so intresting but so sad now... I would've killed for hearing Chris, James and Nick (in Gar mode) playing new tunes and Megadeth covers, just the thought of it makes me salivate like a Pavlov's dog. I'm both Megadeth and Ohm or anything Poland fan. And my absolute favourite Megadeth drummers are Gar and Nick. So so sad.

interviewer doesnt seem very interested by what Chris is saying. I couldn't imagine sitting down with Chris talking to him and asking him questions, would be life changing. Chris has so much to say, but these questions aren't really enabling that in my opinion.

You’re justifying that since Dave Mustaine hires fired Poland/Gar and hired Mensa/Friedman that thats the reason Dave chose to write songs like ill get even (which is a good song even though it’s not heavy) Dave will write what Dave wants. They wrote their heaviest and fastest album with the Marty line up. If he kept Poland it’s extremely likely you’re still going to run into some worse albums down the line. Look at Metallica. HYPOTHETICALLY: If Metallica had disbanded after the black album everyone would always assume that if they had kept going they would have released tons of amazing more albums. Reality is that no, that was their last “great” album. Nobody saw what was coming. We could say the same with Poland and Gar. I’m sure it would have been great what they would have done, but I’ll still hold my money on what Marty and men a brought to the band

both Ellefson and Mustaine look way younger than Poland. I'm not kidding about him looking 75, he looks about as old as my grandpa who is that age. Not trying to diss him or anything, he's my favorite Deth guitarist but Chris just clearly hasn't aged very well.
