Hi all. What did you think of the monthly spend? Was it reasonable or expensive? We are very frugal with what we spend and don’t drink a lot of alcohol when out
Richard, I'm sorry but I think that is very expensive. I live here, even gave birth here in 1990 and have been involved with Bali since 1983 and have spent more than half my life in Asia. I was sorry about your post where it seems people have been unkind. But perhaps it is time to engage with Bali beyond the expat bubble. My monthly costs including things not counted in your budget such as health insurance, rent, alcohol,Banjar offerings and subsidising a poor Balinese family comes in at less than $1,200 AUD per month.
As always, lovely to hear your soothing voice & great smile which conveys optimism. Thanks for the expense breakdown at the end to give further insight to cost of living in Sanur. As you’ve said, everyone’s expenses will vary according to lifestyle…Phone, internet, power etc so much cheaper than Oz. Love Bali but it’s a big step though especially as a single 69 year old lady having lost a lot of my super thru either bad investment with changing housing market …now appraising what I want in retirement. Thanks again.
@@RogerVogelsang hi I suggest that you walk around and ask locals or look for new development and go in to see them. I am not a real estate agent, I just do the same . Walk and ask people when I take videos of villas . If you join our Facebook page there is plenty info there 👍 then pm me for help to we’re to look
Thank you. It's definitely cheaper.. As retirees or pensioners we can get free Doctor visits and cheap prescriptions so we have no health insurance. We have solar panels and pay $100 a month for electricity in Summer. We use Dental students at our local university and shop around for specials. Our Aldi moblile plan is $17. If you are frugal it's not too bad as we live in the regional NSW. We spend more here as we run cars, pay for fuel, rates, so we never get to have massages or rarely eat out. Your lifestyle is definitely better. On the other hand paying 24 years of rent upfront ekk. We lived in Vietnam for 3 months and were able to rent monthly,so I can't see why this wouldn't work for villas in Bali. I would love to live in Bali for 2 to 3 months every year.
Thanks Richard. Very informative for those of us planning on retiring in Sanur. You mentioned your spreadsheet - but I can't find it. Can you point me to it. Thanks again.
Hi Richard & Karen Thank you for the video very informative. One thing I am very interested in is the villa insurance policy like where did you get it from and what does it include? Many thanks and looking forward to seeing more videos ❤
Hi it’s includes all natural disasters but you pay an excess on any claims The place is called Bali Insurance I don’t how it will go if we need to claim 🤷♂️
Hi. Everyone’s set up budget will be different due to what item they may need for there villa etc . In our set up budget it included the furniture costs , which is then broken down to the monthly cost of rent that I explained
Thanks Richard. Good information to know. I like to visit Sanur, Bali but it’s not for me as a full time home. Best wishes to everyone thinking about the move. 🎉
Thanks for video, so tempting to sell up and retire early with those living costs. can I ask with regards to villa rental, am I right in thinking that you have to pay for repairs and if so to what extent would you be liable for these please?
Wow your eating out budget is very low for a month good on ya mate.. one time lunch for me and hubby at japanese restaurant in jakarta at lease AUD 120 😅
We actually live a pretty simple life. Our costs are 2 cars one is used for my business. Our home plus the expenses of an investment property. We probably eat out once a week on weekends. It’s difficult to be accurate. Maybe it’s more like $3k. My post was just an average of our credit card bill per month.
Hi Richard, tell me , did you ever consider Thailand as they have a higher level of medical and dental. I’m heading over to do a 6 month term in Asia- Bali, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia to scope out somewhere to live for a year once the wife hangs up her boots. We are looking for a high quality of life that does not cost the $$ it does here in Oz - ridiculous now ,

Thanks Richard very helpful. We want to do what you and Karen have done, but to qualify for the Australian pension portability rule, we have to live in Australia for 2 years before applying 😢 My husband is 58 and I'm 54. He's hoping to retire at 60. I would be interested to know if any expats know of any way around this?
Pretty sure our government rules are you have to live in Australia for 2 year before you can get pension at 67. Even thou we have paid tax for over 30+years
@@josieandneale it's crazy isn't it!!! It means we can retire to Bali when my husband turns 60, then have to return to Australia for 2 years (when he turns 65) to claim the pension.
Once you return to Australia to apply for the Aged Pension you will get it straight away if you Qualify. If you did not live in Australia for the 2 years before you applied, you will need to stay in Australia for 2 years before you can make it portable. After the 2 years you can live anywhere, So living in Bali now needs to be a long holiday returning back to Australia. I have 351 days till I'm 67.
Here in Newcastle NSW without our mortgage our monthly credit card spend is about $5000. That covers everything we do and all our bills. It can be higher!
